Chapter 3: 03. Aaron.
Unlike human babies, who typically required nine months to develop in their mother's womb, it took dragons three years to fully develop before hatching.
Although there were instances whereby it may take less than three years or where it might be a bit longer than that, the standard period of time was always three years, hence why Yvonne waited three years for her little baby to hatch.
Tenderly gazing down at her newborn son, Yvonne could see how Aaron's tiny hands gripped the cloth that was securely wrapped around him. At that moment, looking at all of the great achievements she had made in her life, none of them could compare to her son.
She had fought against marine soldiers and dangerous sea monsters, outwitted legendary pirates, and faced several other dangers, but even those were nothing but mere accomplishments when compared to her son.
All the accomplishments and treasures that she had amassed throughout the years paled in comparison to Aaron, who was definitely her greatest treasure.
These were the thoughts that filled the Dragon Queen's mind until she noticed Aaron gripping her clothes, and she immediately understood that her little baby must be feeling peckish right now.
And so, with a gentle smile on her face, Yvonne turned towards her best friend before saying. "Let's head back to the ship," and Lily simply replied with a nod before looking at her nephew in Yvonne's arms.
Without another word, Yvonne lifted her head towards the hole at the top of the cave, and her huge dragon wings suddenly burst forth from her back. Then she tightened her grip around Aaron to make sure that he was securely tucked into her arms before she flew out of the cave.
Once she was satisfied that she was ready to take off, Yvonne slowly flapped her huge dragon wings before unleashing a powerful beat of her crimson wings that catapulted her to the night sky.
Lily followed close behind her, and it didn't take the two even a minute before they arrived at their ship.
But while all this was happening, the little dragon in the dragon queen's arms had been trying to comprehend everything that had happened to him ever since he arrived in this world.
Before now, the only thing Aaron could see all around him was darkness.
Well, it was still the same right now, but it had been this way since he arrived in this world.
To be honest, he didn't even know how long he had been in the endless void that was enveloping him. If anyone else were in his shoes at the moment, they would have probably lost their marbles, but this didn't happen to Aaron, thanks to a certain feminine voice.
He didn't know who the voice belonged to, but the female's voice was gentle and soothing to his ears, and it was the only thing that stopped his mind from completely falling apart.
Sometimes, the voice would whisper a few words to him.
It would also hum a few songs to him, all of which he couldn't understand; nevertheless, Aaron was just grateful that he could feel the presence of someone close to him. It helped to lessen his feelings of loneliness in the endless abyss that had somehow become his new reality.
Of course, the voice belonged to none other than the Dragon Queen, as she always did all these things while staying with Aaron as an egg, but she only remained as a mysterious presence in the darkness around him because no matter how hard he tried, Aaron couldn't move.
He couldn't speak, and he couldn't see anything either.
It was gradual, but his feeling of frustration was increasing, and it felt maddening to the young man, who vividly recalled how his life had been before he arrived into the abyss.
Three years ago, before his consciousness arrived in his new world, Aaron used to live on Earth, surrounded by humans of different nations.
Back then, he had a family, a house, and very intense pain that ultimately resulted in his death.
At birth, his parents died before he even got to know them. He heard that they were murdered, but he never truly understood why.
In the end, he was raised by his grandparents, and they raised him with kindness and love, but even they too were taken away from him when it was their time.
But then, just as Aaron was about to step into adulthood with the thought that he could finally start living his own life as a man, he was suddenly struck with a disease.
It was a sickness without a cure, and it slowly ate away at him. It made his muscles weak, and he could barely stand up from his hospital bed.
Aaron still recalled the sterile white walls of his hospital room, and he remembered the feeling as he took a nap on that bed, not knowing that it would eventually be his last. But when he tried to open his eyes ever since he went to sleep, the only thing he was able to see around him was the never-ending darkness.
His limbs had become useless and unresponsive, and even if he had tried to scream or cry out loud, there was no one around to respond to his cry for help.
Not until he felt the presence of someone's warmth close to him as their voice soothed him in ways he could never have imagined.
This had been his norm for a while until he suddenly heard the sound of something cracking so close to him, and for the first time in years, Aaron could actually feel the presence of light. It had been pale, but it had definitely been brighter than the darkness he was used to seeing around him.
He tried once again to open his eyes to see what or who might be around him, but his eyelids felt too heavy to open, and before he knew it, Aaron suddenly felt a warm sensation on his body.
He wasn't certain because he couldn't see it, but it felt like someone was touching him lightly with their finger.
He furrowed his brows and tried to open his eyes for a second time, hoping he would finally be able to see his surroundings, but in the end, he still couldn't see beyond the darkness that had become his norm.
