Chapter 26: Chapter 26: Holy Ten. Great Mage
The rift in the sky vanished as suddenly and mysteriously as it had appeared, leaving no trace but the devastated Life Prohibited Zone scarred beneath the blackened clouds.
Escanor's blazing aura dimmed as he shed his transformed state and slowly descended to the ground, releasing a long, steady breath."Forget it... there'll be plenty of time in the future to deal with Acnologia and that mysterious person..."
At that moment, Gildarts hurried over, concern etched across his weathered face."Escanor! Are you alright?"
"I'm fine, I'm fine. Just a shame I didn't finish the mission."
"Don't dwell on that. With all this chaos, I couldn't complete mine either."
Soon, the Council's Magus Force arrived, their presence overwhelming. The captain of the First Detachment bowed respectfully before Escanor."Lord Escanor, may we have your account of what transpired between you and Black Dragon Acnologia?"
Though second only to the council's leader and commanding tens of thousands, the captain's voice carried deference to Escanor's overwhelming power.
Without pretense, Escanor recounted the battle in detail, sparing only the mysterious intruder's identity, as he himself knew nothing.
"Lord Escanor, what shall we do with the remains of the Black Dragon?"
"That black wing...? Hmm. Take it back. I don't need it."
"Very well, Lord Escanor. The Council will compensate you accordingly; they don't take spoils without reward."
Escanor shrugged off the matter. To him, the Black Dragon's remains were nothing remarkable.
Suddenly, he added, "Actually, take a portion and forge a set of magical equipment—make it for a female Magus."
The captain's eyes lit up. "Understood! I'll arrange it at once!"
The Magus Force quickly secured the area. News of the clash spread like wildfire, drawing more Magus and forcing a strict cordon to keep out civilians.
Meanwhile, the severely wounded Tartaros demons fled under cover of the chaos, vanishing without a trace.
Yet the most hopeful sign was the transformation of the Life Prohibited Zone itself: once a cursed wasteland, it now breathed new life, freed from monsters and darkness.
Escanor and Gildarts accepted the Council's invitation aboard a magical airship bound for Fairy Tail Guild. The journey was a welcome respite after their ordeal.
Upon arrival, laughter and camaraderie awaited them at the Guild bar.
"You're back..." Makarov greeted him with a tired smile.
"Yeah, but the mission remains unfinished. Those century-long tasks are tough," Escanor chuckled.
The three shared light-hearted banter before retreating to the Guild office.
"The Council informed me," Makarov said quietly.
"You already know?"
"Yes, but I haven't told the others—this is too big a burden."
"Sigh... Seems the mission was a waste."
"Don't think like that. You're both safe. We'll find a way."
"Speaking of which, come with me to a Guild meeting soon. The Council is gathering major guilds to discuss new measures against dark guilds."
"Got it."
Life resumed its usual rhythm. Erza returned from her mission and burst into tears upon seeing Escanor, clutching him tightly.
"Don't cry, you're a big girl now!" Escanor teased gently.
"How dare you say that? I only knew you were back because Mira sent me a letter!"
Erza's sharp eyes glinted as she brandished a gleaming longsword. Escanor broke into a cold sweat, apologizing profusely.
They spent several joyful days teasing and comforting one another.
Then the Council's captain arrived again—this time to Fairy Tail Guild itself.
Curious eyes watched as the dignitary politely inquired, "Is Lord Escanor present?"
The guildmates buzzed in surprise—Escanor had never been addressed with such honor before.
Escanor entered with Mira and Erza, radiating relaxed confidence after days of carefree company.
The captain approached swiftly.
"Lord Escanor, I come bearing a gift and official news regarding your conferment as a Saint Ten Great Magus."
A hush fell over the guild.
"Saint Ten Great Magus?!" voices erupted.
"Our Guild has two Ten Wizard Saints now!"
"Escanor's incredible!"
The captain presented Escanor with the Saint Ten Great Magus cloak and seal, along with the magical equipment forged from the Black Dragon's remains and the Council's promised compensation.
Escanor handed the exquisite new equipment to Erza, who radiated joy as magical energy pulsed from it—truly a worthy set for a great warrior like her.
But the reward that followed stunned everyone, for it was this…
