Chapter 42: Chapter 42: My Old Friend, Long Time No See
Location: Fairy Tail Guild and plaza outside
The sun bathed the newly rebuilt Fairy Tail Guild in a warm golden glow. Its walls gleamed proudly, taller and stronger than ever—housing a hundred years of history, memories, and dreams.
Makarov's eyes shimmered with tears as he gazed upon the majestic edifice.
"After all this time... we've done it," he whispered, voice thick with emotion.
The new Guild wasn't just a fortress of magic and battle—it boasted a swimming pool, training grounds, and on the second floor, the legendary S-class quest board stood, free for any to approach, overseen by Mira's watchful eyes.
"Sister! Look! I'm on the second floor!" Elfman's booming voice echoed as he leaned against the railing, chest puffed with pride.
Mira smiled warmly, relief washing over her. Elfman had mastered the Beast Soul magic during the battle—proof of their family's strength.
At the bar, Escanor leisurely sipped wine, his gaze soft as he watched his guildmates celebrate their hard-won victory.
Suddenly, Leo appeared, pale and exhausted.
"Leo! You look terrible. What's wrong?" Escanor asked, concern sharpening his features.
Leo handed over a small, familiar object.
"It's Lucy's Celestial Spirit key. Phantom Lord members tried to kidnap her during the battle. Natsu stopped them, but Lucy lost her key. I found it."
Before Escanor could respond, Leo excused himself, retreating with slow, uneven steps.
A chill settled in Escanor's chest.
Meanwhile, Lucy, burdened by guilt, had fled the Guild to confront her father.
"I will become a Magus," she told him fiercely. "I will no longer be just the daughter of the Heartfilia family."
But her father, Jude, would not hear it.
She was locked away, powerless without her Celestial Spirit key.
Suddenly, glass shattered.
"Lucy!" Natsu's voice thundered as he burst through the window, with Gray and Erza behind him.
"No more running," Natsu grinned, effortlessly scooping Lucy up.
Jude's men rushed after them, but Gray froze the ground beneath their feet.
"Ice-Make: Floor!"
The pursuers slipped and fell as Erza took a defensive stance.
"Lucy, don't run. I won't let anyone harm my guildmates!" Natsu declared.
Lucy's tears sparkled as she transformed back into her Magus attire.
"Father," she spat, "I'm done with your riches and control. If you want me, come get me."
Jude's eyes lingered on her resolute face, the echo of his late wife Layla reflected there.
He turned away in silence.
Back at the Guild, Escanor returned Lucy's recovered key.
"Thanks, Escanor!"
"No, Leo found it," Escanor smiled.
Lucy dashed out to find Leo, only to find him staggering weakly.
"Leo! What's wrong?!"
Before she could react, Leo collapsed.
Escanor, Mira, and Erza were tidying up when Lucy returned, supporting Leo.
"Quick! Help him!" she pleaded.
Escanor laid his hand over Leo's chest; a faint glow spread.
"Leo... he's a Celestial Spirit."
The revelation stunned the women.
Leo's voice was weak but steady.
"Long ago, I was the Celestial Spirit of a Blue Pegasus Magus, Karen. She was harsh and careless. My friends... suffered greatly."
He told of Karen's greed, her reckless use of magic, and her eventual death from overexertion.
Without her, Leo was trapped—unable to return home, his energy dwindling.
"Is there no hope?" Lucy asked, desperation shining in her eyes.
Aquarius appeared, shaking her head.
"Celestial Spirits can only travel through their summoning gates. Leo's key is lost. Without it, he cannot return."
Lucy clenched her fists.
"I won't just watch him die."
"Wait! There's one last way," Aquarius said solemnly.
"The Celestial Spirit King's summoning gate."
"It's dangerous—requires immense magic. You may overdraw your energy."
Lucy's answer was immediate.
"Then I'll do it."
Escanor's voice interrupted gently.
"I will lend you my power."
A radiant connection formed between them as Escanor's magical energy flowed into Lucy.
The magic circle below them blazed to life.
The night sky shimmered as the Milky Way unveiled itself.
From the circle, a towering figure clad in ancient samurai armor slowly took shape.
Two majestic beards framed his stern face.
"Hmm... who summons me?" a deep voice echoed.
The Celestial Spirit King's eyes locked onto Escanor.
"An old friend's aura..."
Aquarius fell to her knees.
"Greetings, my Lord!"
In a flash, the giant shrank to human size.
Escanor stepped forward, calm and respectful.
"Old friend... long time no see."
The reunion of legendary powers set the stage for new beginnings and trials yet to come.
To be continued...
