Chapter 43: Chapter 43: The Gift of the Star Spirit King
Location: Fairy Tail plaza
Escanor's rare smile flickered with wry amusement as the Celestial Spirit King's deep voice echoed through the plaza.
"Old friend," the towering figure said, "it seems you do not remember me yet."
Escanor shook his head lightly, a hint of embarrassment coloring his cheeks.
"Uh… I apologize, but right now, I don't have any memories of you yet."
The Celestial Spirit King laughed, a sound like distant thunder.
"No matter. The future of an old friend is far more thrilling. Hahaha."
Lucy stepped forward eagerly, her eyes shining with hope.
"Please, Celestial Spirit King, save Leo!"
The King's gaze softened, and he nodded knowingly.
"Leo, the Lion—Loki, correct?"
Lucy's rapid nod was almost desperate.
"Very well. The rules binding Celestial Spirits are strict and unbreakable… but your affection and faith move even me. I will make an exception today, for this little girl, and for an old friend."
A cascade of brilliant starlight poured from the heavens like a radiant river. The light wrapped around the motionless figure of Loki, lifting him gently.
Loki's eyes fluttered open, filled with wonder and newfound strength.
"This… this power…"
He slowly descended, every nerve alive, every muscle surging with energy.
Spotting the Celestial Spirit King, Loki dropped to one knee, bowing deeply.
"Thank you, my Lord."
The King waved a hand gracefully.
"Thank your old friend here, and the girl named Lucy."
Loki turned to Lucy and Escanor, bowing again.
"I am forever in your debt."
Lucy flushed, waving her hands nervously.
"It's nothing! We're all family."
Escanor's gentle smile radiated warmth.
"We're all part of the guild. No need for thanks."
The Celestial Spirit King's hand shimmered, and a golden Zodiac key appeared.
"Lucy, this is yours now—the Zodiac Leo key. Loki, serve her well."
"Yes!" Loki's voice rang with pride.
Lucy's heart soared. The key glowed with fierce power—an answer to her fears about lacking offense.
Escanor stepped forward, his voice calm but curious.
"Celestial Spirit King, why am I connected to the Celestial Spirit World?"
The King's face grew grave.
"Some things are tangled deep in time and space. Revealing them now could fracture the future. But know this: your future self has a great mission yet to come."
Escanor nodded, a mixture of intrigue and patience settling in his gaze.
"Oh! Before I go, old friend, I have a gift for you. Or rather, a fulfillment of your own instructions sent back to you."
With a flick of his hand, the King conjured a small box, handing it to Escanor.
Inside lay a crystal shaped like a dragon scale—radiating Escanor's own magical energy, but far more divine and potent.
"What is this?"
The King smiled mysteriously.
"When you gave this to me, you said it would aid your future self."
Escanor chuckled softly.
"My future self does like riddles."
As the Celestial Spirit King, Aquarius, and Loki stepped into the glowing magic circle, ready to return to their realm, the King's voice lingered.
"My old friend, I have always believed in your success."
They vanished in a cascade of starlight, leaving the plaza filled with renewed hope.
Lucy clutched her new Leo key, her eyes sparkling with joy.
Suddenly, the key glowed once more—and Loki reappeared before everyone.
"I almost forgot," Loki said, grinning mischievously. "These tickets to a beach resort were meant for my female friends, but now that I'm back, I'll give them to you."
He tossed the tickets forward.
"Enjoy yourselves."
Before anyone could respond, Loki vanished again in a twinkle of light.
Lucy looked at Escanor, excitement bubbling.
"Hey, let's all go together! Mira, what do you think?"
Before they could answer, Erza appeared, pulling a cart piled with luggage and sporting a swimming ring.
"Are you all coming or not? If not, I'm leaving without you!"
The group erupted into laughter.
Soon, Natsu and Gray were called along—adventure was never complete without them.
As they prepared for their trip, Escanor's communication crystal buzzed insistently.
Excusing himself, he stepped aside.
"Tiya, what's up? Something wrong?"
The voice on the other end teased lightly.
"Did you miss me? Hehe."
Escanor sighed.
"Enough teasing. What's the news?"
"Tiya's voice turned serious. "Remember Siegrain from the Council?"
Escanor nodded.
"He was the second youngest to earn Saint Ten Great Magus, right?"
"Exactly. Actually, he's Jellal—the one you met at the Tower of Paradise."
Escanor's eyes darkened.
"I've been undercover, watching him. But lately, he's grown unpredictable."
"What do you mean?"
"Tiya's voice dropped.
"He's targeting those close to you. The Tower of Paradise plan… has begun again."
Escanor's fist clenched, fury blazing.
"But be cautious," Tiya warned. "He's acting strange—often locked away, surrounded by a dark aura. I feel Ankhseram's presence… hidden but unmistakable."
Escanor's voice hardened.
"That persistent shadow…"
Tiya sighed.
"I'll watch over things here, but stay alert. If danger comes, destroy my magic crystal."
Escanor nodded.
"We will both be careful."
After ending the call, Mira and Erza found Escanor, concern etched on their faces.
"What is it? Something wrong?"
He shared Ultear's report.
"Jellal… I'll settle our score for what he's done."
Erza's eyes burned with fierce resolve.
Escanor looked at them both.
"I've decided to help you strengthen your magic. The enemy moves in shadows—we must be ready."
They nodded silently, hearts steeled for the battles ahead.
To be continued...
