Chapter 24: Fairy 23: Trap Along with Spiders – Part 1
Within a forest, that lies somewhere in the Kingdom of Fiore. Lies Zack Smasher, who has changed over the year since he came to this world.
Zack, who is now 16 years old, is tall compared to most around his age.
It not just his height that also changed over the year. Zack's muscles, that once lean, has become more muscular, still not at the level of bodybuilders, but they are thicker and more compressed compared to before.
Showing the intense physical training Zack went through over the last year.
And it not just the muscles that also changed, even Zack's appearance also matured as well, slowly moulding into someone who not just handsome. But also a certain charm at that.
His grassy green eyes are slowly sharpened, his darkish blue hair, that is longer, to semi-long now, has a wildly style done to it.
Because of his muscles, that are thicker than lean muscles, his eyes sharper, as well hair being wildly done. Gives the young clueless teenager a wild charm kind of handsomeness to him.
Besides his physical appearance, his clothing also perfectly suits his wild forming looks.
With a long sleeveless hooded black coat, and long shorts, that shows around half or less of his bare muscular legs. And on his bare feet, likes wooden sandals.
Pulling down the hood over his head, Zack sighed, as he sat down on and lean his body against the tree.
His whole body ached in pain, which is not so surprising since the workout he just completed just now. Left Zack physically tried, as he looked at the blue sky.
Slight confusion could be seen in his green as grass eyes, as Zack felt annoyed, since this morning, he felt like he forgotten something, but no matter how he tried to think what he has forgotten his mind just turned blank.
Confusing the young teenager, who sighed at this odd feeling, to feel lost why he cannot remember why bothering him so much. Deciding to swich the topic to something else.
Zack looked at his muscles and thought about his Quake-Quake Magic.
Among the information God given to him about his Quake-Quake Magic. There is information that states it is possible with the power of vibrations to tempered one body, making them not just physically stronger, but even more robust as well.
Making the insides and the surface skin harder than steel, reducing the limitations of the physically body, making it possible to even show superhuman level of physically abilities, without relying on the aid of either Magic or Haki.
While that is possible with the power to manipulate vibrations. It is a shame, no matter how much Zack's mastery over his abilities has increased over the past year.
He still miles away from forming vibrations on the level of cells and muscle fibres, with high level focus, that is required to formed such detailed used of his Quake-Quake Magic.
"Something the matter?" A voice snapped Zack out of his thoughts, as he turned to the one who called him.
And the one who called him, is no other than someone he came close with over the year, along with many others, especially around his own age. And that person, who became a close friend of his, is Gray Fullbuster himself.
"Hmm, nothing really, just wish my mastery over my Magic and Magic Power is better." Zack honestly went, as he looked at Gray who also covered in sweat, as he too sat down at the same tree where Zack at, and lean his tried body on it as well.
Gray is one of the few Wizards in the guild, who trained his body near every day. It also the reason why Gray is also in terms of physical strength, is stronger compared to normal Wizards, who referred to fight with Magic alone.
According in a book within the guild library he has read from.
In this world, there are those that known as Martial Artists.
Not the normal people who learn martial arts. But those who are also Wizards but decided to follow a more hand to hand approach.
Because of their well-trained body, allows the flow of Magic Power within them, to strengthen their body further.
This is the reason why Wizards has stronger bodies compared to normal people. Stronger they trained their body; more they can adjust the Magic Power flowing in them to strengthen their body.
And this also the reason, why when Wizards emptied their Magic Power, they become weaker physically, due to the flow of Magic Power that also affects the muscle strength of the body.
Strengthening the body is just the basic, Martial Artist can also use the flow of their Magic Power to formed Chi or Ki type of attacks as well, either by hand or with a weapon.
(AN: Palm Magic, that used by Bacchus Groh, who has superior close range abilities, and if I remember correctly, his Palm Magic is basically flowing Magic Power to the palm of his hand, forming Ki or Chi like attacks is example of this.)
Of course, Gray is no by means a Martial Artist.
His Magic is called Ice Make, a moulding type of Magic system, that allows the ability to mould Magic Power into a solid forms.
In Gray's case, Ice Make moulds Magic Power into Ice shaped objects that he can use to either use to fight with, or send them flying at the enemy and so on.
Moulding Magic is truly a Magic that limits to one's own imagination and creativity.
But it also a type of Magic that counts on the hands, and reaction speed, so it also why it fairly common for those that uses moulding type of Magic Systems, often has stronger bodies via their training to master such Magic.
"Mastery over Magic Power and your Magic huh… aren't we all in the same boat?"
Gray went with a laid back expression, as he shows a sleepy smile, which in turned, Zack shows a grin, that has a hint of playful nature to it, similar, but different to Natsu has.
"You are right, well least, we don't have to worried about sinking, you can just make another boat." Zack jokingly went, causing a sigh from Gray.
"Well it is true, I can create a boat that can float, I rather not, if I make it wrong, the boat will sink. Anyway, putting boats and Magic control aside, should we head off, or have breakfast before carrying on with our mission?"
Gray askes, looking at Zack when he asked this. Zack looks in thoughts, before he gives him an answer.
"let's eat and rest for an hour before we set off? Speaking of mission, I knew it is a Bandit Subjugate mission, I get the capturing part, but what does it mean, we can kill them if necessary?"
Even if Zack has improved over the year with all the books, and advice from others.
There still places he has no knowledge of.
Not to mention, his common sense is still not what one will call common sense just yet, or maybe just a third of how others will compare themselves to Zack, when it comes to common sense.
That is why, simple and deep meanings like killing in itself, is still unknown field to current Zack.
Gray on the other hand, didn't say anything at first.
Because to him, killing and death is no simple matter.
Gray is one of many in this world and in the guild, that is familiar with the meaning of death. Especially when someone like Gray who seen personally the death of his family.
And worse yet, even his own mistake, that cause the death of his beloved master Ur.
That is why, this topic is a touchy one for the laid back Wizard, who sighed, knowing there is no one here, besides himself, to teach the topic of death, to this clueless teenager.
"Killing… is a means of an end, the end of someone's life." Gray went.
"Someone else life? I don't get it." Zack honest went, as he cannot imagine an end of someone life is like.
"Well… it not a simple topic, it is like a sleep, that you will never wake up from. And… you will never hear or see that person again either. Death comes to us all one… no one can escape from it." Gray went quietly, which Zack picked on.
If this was a year ago, Zack wouldn't picked up on this was somewhat a difficult topic for Gray. But now it is different, as he no longer mentally five year old, and noticed this killing thing is a heavy topic for Gray for some reason.
He has no clue what is Death, is that a person? Or a meaning? But in the end, he has to look for the answers elsewhere, as he doesn't want to make his friend any more uncomfortable.
"Sorry… I didn't mean to upset you." Zack went, taking out some jerky from his rucksack.
"Don't be… it not your fault. So don't worry about it." Gray went, as he opened his backpack, and took out sandwiches from it.
As they ate their food and even brought out a bottle of water from their own bags. Zack thinks back on the mission itself.
As he doesn't understand about killing, since this is his first Bandit Subjugate mission.
In this world, Bandits can be found about anywhere. It is mostly the job of the Legal Guilds to handle Bandits.
Bandits themselves are normal people who are either forced or willing to follow the life of crimes.
Crimes that bandits followed from pretty stealing, robbing, to major crimes like kidnapping, smuggling, and even murder and rape.
Strength of bandits are classified into three kinds. Normal Bandits, who just normal people, they are no different to E-Class level threats.
Experienced Bandits, refers to Bandits that has some formal training, they still E-Class, but they can still kill even D-Class Wizards, due to their experience in fighting.
And there also the elite Bandits, who uses Magic Items to fight with, their level threat can range from D-Class even to A-Class counting on the Magic Items they use.
However, as elite Bandits are a thing, they are very rare, since most bandits will sell or smuggle Magic Items if they have their hands on them.
That is the classification of Bandits in this world.
As for the reward of the Mission, counts on which nation the Bandit Subjugate Mission is taken from.
In the Fiore Kingdom, the rewards of Bandit Subjugates lies in two factors, the first factor if they been captured alive, or killed by the Wizard themselves.
While the second factor if the Bandit has a bounty on their head.
Each Bandit captured alive, are 5,000 Jewels each, while Bandits that are dead, will only earn them 2,000 Jewels for each one killed.
And if they have a bounty on their heads, it normally ranged between 10,000 to 250,000 Jewels. Sometimes it can be higher, but those cases are rare, since in the end of the day, Bandits are Bandits, not Dark Wizards.

(Old Notes - Written before posting)
The Bandits classification is not a canon thing.
But it just seems both realistic and reasonable to have normal, skilled, and elite ranked bandits.
And because knights can use Magic Items as armour to increased their physical strength, why can't bandits?
And lastly, this Bandit reward system only applies in Fiore, other nations will have similar or different systems.
Also the reason why the reward system for keeping bandits alive is way higher, is to ensure Wizards wouldn't kill normal people. And make sure they also captured the said Bandits.
And because there is a loophole in this system, and that loophole is that scum can just captured normal people, who are not Bandits.
Which is why the reward of capturing Bandits alive is higher, so they can use a Magic Item that is a lie detector to see if they really are Bandits or not.
Not to say, there is a hidden rule, if a Wizard will to take on several missions of Bandits Subjugates, and all of them end in killing all the bandits each time.
The Magic Council will investigate the matter, if the Wizard truly killing Bandits or not. Or that how it works in this Fanfic.
