Chapter 25: Fairy 24: Trap Along with Spiders – Part 2
After breakfast, Gray and Zack begin to reached the area of their mission, a place where the bandits were last seen.
Gray looked sharply at the abandoned mine ahead of him, a place the usually used by Monsters to create a den, or even by Bandits to create a hideout.
"I don't see any signs of people, what about you?" Gray went, as Zack eyes narrowed as well, looking at the abandoned mine ahead of them.
Thanks to the information of survival skills in his mind, among them is the information how hunters track or look for traces of their prey. Zack looked out for the signs of anyone was there.
"Hmm, there signs of animals going pass… but hard to tell if they are human." Zack went, even if he has knowledge of how to hunt like a true hunter, he still hasn't refined such knowledge within him, making it hard for the clueless teenager, to find any true tracks, besides the animal related tracks.
"Since we here, we might as well check the place out." Gray went, as Zack nodded, and made their way towards the mine that has been abandoned by time.
When they come closer to the mine, Zack suddenly halted his steps, as he felt presences with his senses via his Haki Spiritual Arts.
"What wrong?" Gray askes, noticing Zack has suddenly halted in his steps.
Gray knew about Zack's ability to sense what he calls the auras of others. Different to how a Wizard can sense Magic Power itself, Zack can not just sense Magic Power, but also their presence as well.
Of course, there are Magic systems that can do the same thing, so it wasn't shocking to Gray, seeing such an ability from Zack.
If anything, it was a shock, that this Haki, that he and many believes to only harden the body and cancel Magic as well, has another ability keen to a sensing ability.
"I can… sense several auras ahead… let me focus." Zack went as he closes his eyes.
The range of his Observation Haki is no longer 2m, like it was last year.
It is now 20m all around him, Zack closes his eyes, when he did, the world turned into darkness. But in this darkness, blue like shadows could be seen.
(AN: I have no clue if this average or not. I know a certain blind swordsman has 2km if I remember correctly.
However, I did look for the average range, or even the maxed range… but for some reason, I cannot find it, even in Fandom, and Google-Sensei only give me this nonsense about Blox Fruit, what the heck is a Blox Fruit??)
The blue shadows themselves are auras of life, anything that still alive has them, and stronger their aura, stronger their strength will be.
Through the blue shadows, Zack can see Gray's blue shadow, along with the insects around them also has faint nearly not noticeable blue shadows. And at the cave of the mine's entrance, Zack can sense and see in his mind, several blue shadows… that not shaped like humans.
Zack felt confused looking at the shaped blue shadows that don't resemble human shadows. If anything… they looked like spiders, spiders that a lot bigger compared to spiders he knew of.
"What you see?" Gray askes, knowing of Zack's ability of Observation Haki.
"Spiders… bigger than normal spiders I knew off… could they be Monsters I read about? As for their strength, most of them are D-Class, but some of them are C-Class." Zack told, while Gray himself looked shocked before he sighed.
"You telling me… the abandoned mine before us, that supposedly to be reported as hideout for a small group of Bandits, has spider monsters in them?" Gray askes to confirmed, even if he knew Zack isn't the type to lie.
"Yep, that is right." Zack simply told.
"Ahh… you got to be kidding me… this is just complicated things…" Gray went, as he sighed realising their Bandit Subjugate Mission has become complicated.
There are three outcomes Gray can think why the supposedly bandit hideout has most likely turned into Monster Den.
One is this abandoned mine is not the right location. Meaning either the client told the wrong information either by purpose or by mistake. Or this is their own fault, mistaking this abandoned mine as the supposedly Bandit Hideout.
Second outcome is simple.
Spiders, monsters or not, are creatures that refer enclosed places like mines, caves and such as their dwellings.
The abandoned mine could actually be, or was the Bandit hideout, and by rotten luck, their hideout got invaded by the Monster Spiders.
Meaning, Gray and Zack didn't have to even deal with the Bandits, since the monsters got them before the duo.
And the third chance of the abandoned mine?
This is a trap, as the chances are the lowest among the three options, but Gray is sharp, and chances of this being a trap is also a possibility.
However, like said, this is the lowest possibility among the three options. Zack nor Gray is famous enough to be targeted, if it was Erza or Mirajane, that is a different story.
Erza as a S-Class Wizard, she is famous for being the strongest female Wizard in Fairy Tail, that is why she also called Titania, the Queen of Faires.
And even if Mirajane is not a S-Class Wizard yet, since this year S-Class Trails hasn't arrived yet. She still known as the Majin, a demonic Wizard, who is feared among many Dark Wizards, and even legal Wizards like themselves.
But in this timeline, Gray is yet to be known among Fiore or beyond. This also applies to Natsu as well. And Zack also the same.
Meaning the third outcome seems fairly unlikely, not to mention, how can the other side know Zack or Gray will pick this mission personally?
As Gray think of many possibilities with his keen senses. Zack on the other hand, crossed his muscular arms, between lean and muscular, thinking what should he do with these Spiders inside the cave.
The current Zack never killed before. No, the clueless teenager has no clue what killing or even death meant.
This is not Zack's fault; it has been four months since Zack was allowed to take on missions.
Makarov, or master everyone calls him for some reason.
Denied Zack from taking any mission, not until Zack can be more humane.
This is why he spent the first eight months by studying, barely doing any training in Magic, martial arts, or his Spirit Art.
Of course, this meant Zack's progress in strength as weakened a lot, if he wasn't dragged to Fairy Tail, Zack expected his Magic Power might be A-Class, not B-Class like it is now.
And his Spiritual Power might also be A-Class, not B-Class like it is now.
However, as this might be true.
His mental age will remain the same, his humanity might never be formed, as the shaped of his personality wouldn't take roots, if it wasn't for Makarov and the others teaching him and advising him in all of his matters.
Not to mention… Zack knew, his progress in Haki Spiritual Arts wouldn't be the same as well.
For a Spirit Art that relies heavily on Willpower itself.
Without a personality, there is no persona, and no persona is no will.
This is something Zack learnt in his time at Fairy Tail. Even if he didn't spend a year at Fairy Tail, and gained A-Class Spiriual Power, how much of it will be turned to Haki itself?
How long can Zack use Armament Haki? Before he only could use it for a few seconds, and its strength was very unstable.
But now?
Armament Haki can now cover the whole of his arms and legs, and it can last many minutes, unlike the mere seconds from before.
He knew, this is possible due to his Willpower, even if his Spiritual Power did play a big role in this. He knew the strength of his Haki is heavily lies on his Willpower, that is just fuelled by his Spiritual Power that dwells within him, alongside Magic Power.
Of course, Zack still has a very long road to fully master any of the three colours of Haki. And he still hasn't awakened the Supreme King Haki yet either.
But he knew, if he didn't go to this guild, his mastery of Haki Spiritual Arts wouldn't be at this level.
Not to mention, if it wasn't for the others, he will never be able to feel Emotions from his Haki either.
Of course, it wasn't just his Haki that got affected. His due to Natsu, Erza, Gray, and Elfman who he always spars with. His Six Styles also were refined more, then he was by himself.
And the insight of other Magic systems he learnt in the library, not only allowed him to learn other Magic systems. But also allowed him earned insight how to use his Quake-Quake Magic, as well control over his Magic Power.
In the end, as it true his Magic Power, physical strength, and Spiritual Power might be weaker they should be, if he was left alone.
But his abilities have skyrocketed, even if the two Zack to fight, the Zack who hasn't gone to Fairy Tail will lost instantly to the Zack from Fairy Tail.
So it wasn't a waste.
Besides that, all the missions Zack did, were missions like finding lost cats or pigs for some reason. Cleaning or destroying some old buildings or helping them build them as well.
Zack liked those missions that others find boring or tiring. Because those very missions make you closer to the town people, making him feel like he has a place in this world, a world he doesn't truly belong to.
