Genshin Impact: The Daily Life of Inazuma's Youkai

Chapter 90: 90: Sacred Sakura and Istaroth

In his past life, Reisen Riou transmigrated when Mihoyo had only reached Sumeru's chapter, unfinished, leaving Khaenri'ah's war a mystery. But he knew Teyvat's future was perilous. The Sustainer of Heavenly Principles rallied six Archons to crush Khaenri'ah, only for Khaenri'ah to retaliate, striking the Archons' homelands. Reisen Riou pondered fleeing to Enkanomiya, a relative haven during the war, though excavated by Khaenri'ah. But abandoning everything—his ties to Inazuma, his strength—was unthinkable. "I'm no longer a nobody. I'm strong now. Fleeing would stall my archery and drain my heart's resolve. Deceiving myself won't fool my heart."

Processing the memories, he recovered quickly; the data was sparse but shocking. Unbeknownst to him, his Thunderous Yougou Divine Machine had leaked his thoughts, though Serenitea Pot's isolation kept Raiden Ei unaware—for now.

Ei, calmed, queued for tricolor dango at a shop Raiden Makoto, Yae Miko, and she frequented. Shogunate chefs' dango lacked something. Disguised to hide her identity as Makoto's Shadow Warrior, she ordered, "One tricolor dango, to go."

"Here, miss. 2,700 Mora," the vendor said.

Paying and grabbing the steaming dango, Ei's joy was cut short by a flood of Reisen Riou's memories via Thunderous Yougou Divine Machine. She vanished, dango falling in the snow.

"Where'd she go?" a customer gasped.

"Must be a ninja," another said, handing the dango to the vendor. "Keep it for her, or… haha."

Reisen Riou sealed his memories with a spell, not to forget but to block external access, shielding them from the Sustainer. "Can't let go," he muttered, splashing his face, exhausted. The memories hit hard, and he hadn't slept in ages. Though it was afternoon, the snowy day called for rest. Khaenri'ah's war was a century or two away—plenty of time.

Ei nearly entered to question the memories' truth but hesitated, fearing their reality. Beneath her stoic facade, her heart was fragile. The Sustainer… Her braid glowed purple, and she vanished. Reisen Riou's caution paid off: Thunderous Yougou Divine Machine on his desk flickered, as Ei, using remote admin access, erased the leaked records. The secret now lived only in their minds.

If Khaenri'ah's war was distant, Ei vowed to grow stronger—and ensure Makoto did too. But the Sacred Sakura—did it truly exist?

An invisible wave enveloped Ei. "Here, miss. 2,700 Mora," the vendor repeated. Ei took the dango, dazed, walking off, feeling a loss she couldn't place. Dango's good, though.

The wave swept over a sleeping Reisen Riou, pausing, then moved on. Raiden Makoto, frowning over state affairs, sensed it. "Sacred Sakura's pulse—Istaroth's power. Is the Grand Narukami Shrine's purification ritual early?" She ordered an Okuzume, "Inquire at the Grand Narukami Shrine about recent Sacred Sakura activity." The soldier vanished.

Reisen Riou slept through it all, unaware the Sacred Sakura's influence altered a dozen memories, blurring Ei's timeline to minimize ripples.

Waking, he pushed open the door. Despite the gloomy sky, Inazuma City glowed in the snow. Tenryou Commission soldiers and merchants gathered firewood and coal. Nobles, usually hoarding fuel, struggled this winter; Makoto's direct oversight curbed their schemes, redirecting shares to commoners. Reisen Riou, entitled to a share, gave his to young Uyu Tarou.

"What to do today?" he mused. "Maybe visit Ritou. Been a while. I can upgrade One System, Ten Thousand Minds' hardware."
