Chapter 640: The Sacrifice
The Night Sky Restaurant was composed of three areas; one was the dining room where all the guests sat.
This area itself was divided into several sections. The guests who didn't have status and weight in the town had different sitting arrangements.
There were even some private rooms where the rich guests could enjoy their food in privacy with no disruptions from others.
The second room was the kitchen itself; everything was cooked in the kitchen, and the only ones who had access to this place were the cook and the waiter who brought the dishes in and out.
And the last area was the living area, which consisted of a living room and two bedrooms, one for the chef and the other for the waiter.
"Don't you think it feels weird that the maid of your daughter is working with the owner of this place to harm your daughter?" Noah asked as the three of them watched the maid dragging unconscious Kei'er to the living room shared by the chef and the waiter.
Lei Yo silently clenched his hands into a fist, but no words came out of his mouth. His eyes watched every action of the maid with a sharp look in his eyes.
"Despite how great this restaurant has been working in the past, why are there only two staff members?"
Noah continued on while two figures entered the hall from the main door. These two were none other than the chef and the waiter of the Night Sky restaurant.
"You have done a great job." Seeing the unconscious girl lying on the floor, at the feet of the maid, the chef commented with a smirk. "The sect will be pleased by your contribution."
"I just want to get even with everything." The maid glanced at Kei'er with the last bit of hesitation before steeling her voice in resolve.
Seeing this, the chef smirked and glanced at the servant, who glanced back before walking to the north end of the hall and crouching down.
He fiddled with the ground, which seemed confusing to the maid, but when she saw the ground parting and a stairway appearing out of nowhere, her eyes went wide.
"You are a cultivator." She blurted in shock; the waiter merely glanced at her in indifference before picking up the unconscious Kei'er and walking downstairs.
"Come with us; you should see this." The chef nudged the maid and walked behind the waiter with his head down like a servant.
Although shocked at how their roles had been reversed, the maid hesitated a bit before following them, and so did three other hidden figures.
Once arriving inside the secret compartment, Magistrate Lei Yo and the maid exclaimed in shock.
While the latter vomited her guts out, the former now looked at his daughter with a pale face.
They had never expected to encounter such a secret in this place.
The disappearances! The abductions! These two were the ones behind all of that!
"Now what?" Lei Yo looked at Noah with suppressed rage and helplessness.
"There is no reason to wait anymore; this should be enough for you to know the truth." Noah glanced at the man with indifference and waved his hand.
The waiter was shocked when she felt the weight in his arms suddenly disappearing.
"Someone is here." His face turned dark as he looked around for signs of the intruder.
His words made the other two startle and panic as well.
"No need to look around." Out of nowhere, three figures stepped out. Noah and Xin Yan were walking in the front while Lei Yo stood there, holding his daughter in his arms.
The first one to react was the waiter. "I did not expect someone from the righteous sect to react so soon."
The grim look on his face eased for a second before it came back.
"But even so, I will allow no one to interrupt the plans of the grandmaster!" he exclaimed with determination and signaled the chef before rushing towards Noah.
Woosh!
Receiving the signal, the chef moved at the same time as the waiter.
One jumped on Noah with a pair of sickle-like weapons that he had pulled out from his back, while the other grabbed the maid and jumped towards the altar.
Even though they were moving at their top speed, they appeared to be as slow as ants crawling in front of Noah and Xin Yan.
Noah lifted a single finger, and…
Poof!
The guy attacking him had turned into a cloud of blood mist.
Xin Yan also moved, appearing beside the chef; she punched out her fist, and his body exploded into bits and pieces, painting the altar.
Ignoring the mess, she pulled the maid away from the altar.
The woman was only a finger's distance away from the altar; had she stepped on it, she would have died on the spot.
Lei Yo watched everything unfold with fear and shock. He only heaved a sigh of relief when he saw the two culprits dying before his eyes.
Yet…the situation was not over yet.
Upon the death of the two kidnappers, the altar glowed mysteriously. Xin Yan flashed away from the area and appeared beside Noah, still holding the maid by the back of her cloak.
The parts of the bodies of the two perpetrators slowly wiggled, and the blood mist was instantly sucked towards the array formation.
Once the array consumed everything, including their bodies, it started pulsing with an unnatural red glow.
Noah, seeing this, hurriedly moved the bodies away from the platform.
The array formation laid on the ground came to life. It pulsed a few more times, and with each beat it grew faster.
Lei Yo could hear his heart beating in his ears when a feeling of dread washed over his body.
"What's happening!" He asked in panic, but no one gave him an answer, which made him panic even more.
Noah instantly waved his hands, and a complex pattern of intricate array formation appeared on the ground.
The formation overlapped the one on the formation, and the glow of the formation started to dim.
And within no time, the formation turned listless and glowed no further.
"Is it over?" Xin Yan asked.
