Hatake Kakashi Absolutely Will Not Be a Chakra Unit!

Chapter 87: Chapter 87: You Want to Be a Rogue Ninja Too?

Chapter 87: You Want to Be a Rogue Ninja Too?

For Obito, there was only one person in the world who could say such things. It was a humiliating memory from his childhood…

Although it was always he who started the provocations, he had yet to win a single fight against Kakashi.

But I'm different now! After defeating Hanzo of the Salamander, I won't lose to him again!

"Hatake—Kakashi!!"

The black-haired boy conveniently forgot that he had said the exact same thing in the Land of Water.

He let out a defiant roar in a hushed voice, not stopping to wonder how this guy had shown up in Konoha at a time like this. Communication between men was done with fists; the bonds between ninja were forged in battle. Obito leaped out of the window, fists ready, intending to engage Kakashi in a fierce taijutsu battle.

"Stop!"

With a swift motion, Kakashi threw him over his shoulder, but Obito landed steadily on his feet. Kakashi didn't press his advantage. Instead, he placed a finger to his lips, making a "shush" sound.

Only then did Obito realize that his lifelong rival had snuck into the village. He quickly glanced left and right before climbing back into the room with the silver-haired young man.

"What are you doing in Konoha?"

"I came to see sensei's inauguration ceremony."

With a look of clear disbelief, Obito sat cross-legged on the bed, not bothering to take off his shoes and getting the covers dirty. It didn't matter; someone from the clan would come to change them every week anyway.

"I didn't even go. You're telling me you did?"

"Guess you have some brains after all. But I did actually go and watch for a bit. Sensei is popular with the people and strong enough. Under his leadership, Konoha should be stable for a few years."

"The Third Great Ninja War isn't over yet. Did you come here just to praise sensei and criticize me for not attending his inauguration?"

"I just happened to pass by sensei's ceremony. He might have spotted me, but it doesn't matter. I'm here to see you."

"Me?"

"Yes. Tell me, what did you do in the Land of Rain? And why does Rin look like she just got out of the hospital? Did you fail to protect her?"

"How is that possible!"

Under Kakashi's increasingly scornful gaze, Obito's rebuttal grew louder.

"Shut up! There are Anbu outside!"

"Rin's injury was from being infected while she was saving someone! I went to the Land of Rain to get the antidote from Hanzo of the Salamander."

"And then you and Nagato killed him together? And you claim he committed suicide? You've gotten bold, haven't you."

Obito was furious. As expected, this silver-haired jerk could infuriate him just by showing up. The fact that he probably still couldn't beat him made him even angrier.

"His suicide is real."

"You've learned to lie?"

"Do you think I'm like you?"

Kakashi narrowed his left eye, as if trying to read Obito's heart rate to see if he was lying. Hanzo of the Salamander was a formidable leader. Even if he had declined in his final days, he didn't seem like the type to commit suicide.

At the same time, the young man was reminded of his own father, the White Fang of Konoha. He took a couple of deep breaths to calm himself, suppressing the urge to go find the village elders and fight them to the death. Considering that, it was indeed possible that Hanzo had taken his own life.

"What was the reason?"

"Because of Danzo."

Obito Uchiha stood up, closed the window, and spoke in a low voice.

"I told sensei that I killed Danzo, but in reality, he and Hanzo took each other out. Hanzo used Danzo's blade to slash his own poison sac. Under the watch of my Sharingan, I would have detected any means of escape. He is definitely dead."

"How naive."

The moment Obito said that, Kakashi knew that Danzo wasn't someone who would die so easily. He had been a little surprised to hear Danzo was dead. Honestly, it was questionable whether he himself could defeat Danzo right now. It wasn't that he feared Danzo's strength, but the revival jutsu, Izanagi, was truly overpowering, and his various sealing techniques were also very tricky. Plus, Danzo never acted alone; he was always accompanied by several elite jonin-level guards.

If that old fox died so easily, then this trip to Konoha would have been a waste.

"I'm certain Danzo isn't dead yet. You'll find out why later. There's one thing I don't understand. Why did you tell sensei that you killed Danzo?"

Obito Uchiha didn't answer immediately. He fell silent for a few seconds, slowly gathering his thoughts, debating whether to tell the person before him, wondering if he could be trusted.

The black-haired boy believed that his only true friends, or rather, best friends, were Kakashi and Rin. He understood that Kakashi always held back when they fought, just enough to make him realize the gap in their strength and push him to work harder.

Rin encouraged and motivated him in a gentler way.

So... if he couldn't even trust them, was there anyone left in the world to trust?

"Because I want to leave Konoha. Just like you, I want to become a rogue ninja."

"Is it fun?"

"What?"

"I'm asking you, do you think being a rogue ninja is fun?"

Like a father looking at his disappointing son—and in terms of mental age, Kakashi was indeed many years older than Obito—he felt a sense of frustration. He had made so many efforts to ensure Obito could stay safely in Konoha, and now this one sentence had thrown it all away.

In his anger, Kakashi momentarily forgot the purpose of his visit today. By the time he realized it, Obito was already looking at him with a questioning gaze.

"You can be a rogue ninja, so why can't I?"

"Hah, if that's your reason, then even at the risk of being hunted by sensei, I'm going to have to teach you what it means to be a ninja!"

"Of course not. It's because of the Akatsuki."

Unexpectedly, yet reasonably, the silver-haired young man reined in his surging anger. Only then did he remember his objective. He hadn't expected Obito's thoughts to align so perfectly with his own.

"Nagato told me you are the leader of the Akatsuki. So you plan to go join Amegakure and build up the Akatsuki? And bring Rin along to protect her, to keep her off the battlefield."

"Yes, it's more or less as you said. But I will ask for Rin's opinion."

"What if she doesn't agree?"

"If she stays in Konoha as a medical ninja, I won't object. But if she insists on joining the front-line medical teams, I will lead the Akatsuki to bring her back to Amegakure."

"In the end, you're still disregarding her feelings."

"Rin's safety is more important than my own life!"

This time, it was Kakashi's turn to be silent for a few seconds. He had no doubt about the truth of that statement. Just as if something were to happen to Mei Terumi right now, he wasn't sure what he would do.

Unconsciously, that girl had come to occupy such a large place in his heart.

Will Sara also... in the future...

"My purpose today is similar to your idea. It's to make you the leader of the Akatsuki. But it might be even crazier than what you're thinking."

"Have you ever thought about bringing the entire Uchiha clan to the Land of Rain?"
