Chapter 36: Ch. 36 - A stray devil appears!
'This is bad. I just told myself I'll avoid destroying this date and look at me, bringing ourselves into a fucking lion's den!' Kenshin mentally slapped his forehead.
At first, everything was normal when they entered the Ramen shop but the moment he saw two familiar figures sitting side by side, he knew something was about to go down, and combined with the cook's weird actions, he knew he had to leave.
Unfortunately for him and Sawako, the doors were shut closed, and locked.
"A-Ano…Can you please open the door? We just want to leave…" Sawako turned to the cook and slightly bowed her head, thinking a small talk would perhaps fix the misunderstanding.
"What a beautiful lady…Hehehe~" The man behind the curtain spoke perversely, making Kenshin's eyebrows curl.
"Mister, we don't want any trouble here. Just open the door and we'll leave you to whatever you want to do here…" Kenshin squinted his eyes at the curtain and his curiosity got the better of him.
With a silent cast of a magic spell, his eyes pierced through the curtains and as soon as he saw what was inside, his eyes widened in surprise.
The silhouette that they've been talking to was already dead. No light in eyes, pale face and and a red spot on his chest, like something just pierced his heart.
'This must be the doing of a Cursed Spirit…'
But he soon took back his words when he spread his senses around the ramen shop.
'No, it's not cursed energy. It's similar to Souji, that samurai devil I encountered a few days ago…'
'Should I expose him here? Clearly, this is the doing of a devil. But I don't really want to expose myself now, especially with Sawako-san and those guys being here…' He glanced at the two figures sitting on their respective seats.
'Satoru Gojo and the other guy should be Nanami.'
'Should I leave this problem to them and just act like a normal person? I can't risk taking on the devil with Sawako being here after all.'
In the end, Kenshin decided on the latter. Act like a normal person and just wait until Satoru and Nanami handle it.
Without further ado, Kenshin grabbed the two steaming hot ramen bowls and went to a booth at the furthest end of the restaurant.
"Why—" Just as Sawako curiously wanted to ask him about the weird cook, Kenshin shook his head at her and said.
"Just ignore it and don't touch the bowl. We'll just wait…" Albeit confused, Sawako did as Kenshin told her and refrained from touching the bowl.
Meanwhile, Kenshin's attention was on both Nanami and Satoru, who just sat quietly while staring at the two ramen bowls offered to them.
Something's wrong, they can feel it.
Especially the bowls of ramen. What kind of restaurants offer four steaming hot bowls of ramen without any sort of payment?
'Either the cook is too generous or the bowl has something in it. Obviously, it's the latter.' Nanami pushed his glasses and muttered under his breath.
"Ohh?~ Why are my customers not eating their ramen? Could there be something wrong with my cooking?" Behind the curtain, the cook spoke with a spooky tone.
Mixed with the constant sounds of munching and chewing around them, makes their environment more creepy.
"…." Nanami looked around first and seeing how everyone except for the unusual couple who recently arrived was busy with their bowls like a bunch of hungry rabid dogs, he sighed.
"We know you're a stray devil. You can stop whatever you're trying to do and show yourself…" As soon as Nanami finished his words, it was as if their surroundings froze.
The munching and chewing sounds disappeared as the customers stopped eating from their bowls and slowly turned their heads to Nanami.
If it were a normal person, no doubt they would shit themself from this sight however, Nanami is a first-grade Jujutsu Sorcerer, just one level below the highest, Special Grade Jujutsu Sorcerer.
'Is the devil controlling their minds? Curse Technique perhaps?' Unfortunately, their contracted Devil, Sai, didn't manage to give them much information about their kind except for the so-called dishonorable stray devils that betrayed their masters.
In such, they have no idea how devils work and how strong they are, hence Nanami assumed that devils must've used some kind of Cursed Technique or something like that.
The silhouette behind the curtain finally moved? Are you a stray devil hunter? A priest? Or maybe a devil also? Who's your master then?"
"My only master are these hands of mine." Now that the stray devil has confirmed his existence, he grabbed his trusty blade before throwing it towards the silhouette behind the curtain.
Puchi!
Bam!
Clang!
The tip of his blade has hit its mark as the figure flew backwards along with the curtain that is embedded by the blade, revealing the bloody kitchen.
Along the way, the body stumbled across several kitchen utensils and equipment.
Seeing no response from both the figure and the customers Nanami patted his shoulders and jumped inside the kitchen, grabbing a nearby butcher knife out of caution.
Slowly approaching the body, Nanami crouched and removed the curtain covering his face, revealing an average-looking Japanese man with no light in his eyes.
'Hmm? Dead already? But the customers are still—' Before he could finish his inner monologue, he heard the sound of rushing footsteps from behind him.
Quickly turning around, Nanami witnessed as the previously frozen customers were now rushing towards him, Satoru, and even the two couples in the corner.
"Dammit! The real body must be somewhere else!" Nanami cursed under his breath and quickly stood while pulling his blunt cleaver from the dead body of the cook.
"Graaarrgh!" One of the customers jumped on him with a menacing growl on his face.
Slash!
A thin red line appeared on the man's neck before his head fell off.
Although there's a chance that the man is mind-controlled but in this kind of situation, it's better to take them down lest they become trouble later.
Four more of these mind-controlled customers or Zombies as Nanami will start calling them from now on, rushed towards him with the same if not even more vigor than the first one.
As Nanami was busy with four zombies on his way, Satoru's situation was different.
Ten of the zombies were clumping on him however his Infinity simply blocked them from coming near him.
No matter how much they tried to reach Satoru, it seemed impossible.
On the other hand, Kenshin noticed a few of the zombies heading their way.
Looking at Sawako's afraid expression while clumsily holding the chopsticks as a form of protection, Kenshin sighed and silently raised his hand.
Mana Strings!
Five near-invisible blue strings appeared from the tip of Kenshin's fingertips and rushed towards a few of the zombies, embedding themselves in their flesh.
With a tug of his fingers, two of the zombies started to attack the other ones.
'Hopefully, in this way, they wouldn't notice me…' Seeing the confused but glad expression on Sawako's face, Kenshin knew he had successfully tricked.
Now, as for Satoru Goj—.
The moment he shifted his attention to the man, he felt his breath hitch as Satoru was still calmly sitting on his stool but this time, he used his thumb to show his left eye that was staring directly at Kenshin with an amused smile.
'Fuck! He knows!' He internally screamed in his mind.
"Interesting…" Even though he couldn't hear the words Satoru uttered but reading his lips is enough for him to know that the man has already set his eyes upon him.
'…Should've known something like this would happen. Every time I'm on a date with Sawako…' Unable to do anything, Kenshin was left with no choice but to sigh and accept the consequences of his action.
He'll catch Satoru's attention sooner or later, and nothing will change.
"This is getting annoying." Satoru sighed and shifted his attention away from him.
From the looks of it, the only reason why Satoru wasn't doing anything earlier was simply because he was waiting for Kenshin to reveal himself.
'Typical.' Kenshin shook his head with a sigh.
Raising his hand, Satoru smirked before the zombies around him were covered in blue.
Fwooosh!
Before getting mercilessly crushed into meatballs.
Seeing this made Kenshin clench his fist.
'He's strong. At my current state, defeating him would be hard, though I might have a chance in terms of attrition, even with his Six Eyes, I can last longer than him thanks to having access to a near limitless supply of energy. Though I should focus on strengthening myself first to ensure the win.'
It's simply hard for him not to compare his current state to others. After all, he was previously the strongest in his previous world, and now being brought back to zero is scary as hell, especially for someone who experienced being on top of the world.
"Come out now, little devil. I know you're in THERE!" With a wild grin, Satoru finally made his big move, jumping from his stool, Satoru rushed towards the ceiling.
Boom!
Crash!
The wooden ceiling collapsed, the moment Satoru's arm pierced through it.
"Found you!" A smile crept up to Satoru's face before pulling his arm back.
Clutched with his hand was a large and fat figure with purple skin, a face made of a pig.
"Squeak! Squeak!" The devil pig made a squeaking noise as Satoru tightly grabbed its neck.
"Hieek! No! No!" The pig wailed as the grip on his neck was stronger than his own.
"Yes! Yes!" Only for Satoru to smile wickedly and drag the pig before smashing him towards a nearby wall.
Boom!
Watching this, Kenshin could only silently cast a prayer towards the devil pig for trying to trick, out of all the people in the world, Gojo Satoru himself.
'Goodbye, pig. May you rest in eternal peace.'
"No! Please! Spare me!"
"Oh, we will. That is if you satisfy us first." Satoru grinned and pulled the pig's face near him.
'Phrasing, you albino Sorcerer!' Kenshin screamed in his mind.
"What do we do with him? He was weaker than I expected." Nanami emerged from the kitchen with thick blood on his shirt, walking towards Satoru while massaging his left shoulder.
"Bring him back. Extract information about the devils, angels, and gods from him before disposing of him." Satoru poked the large belly of the pig devil who had already passed out.
"Are you crazy?" Nanami's gaze on Satoru tightened.
"You're potentially bringing a devil to Jujutsu High. We don't even know if he's alone or worse, has a strong someone behind him. Not to mention, if we don't watch over him carefully, he might control the minds of the students." Nanami scolded the strongest Jujutsu Sorcerer, only for his words to enter his right ear and leave in the left.
"No worries about that. I have a specific place in mind for him to stay on. Away from anyone and everything." Satoru played with the trinket he got from the stray devil that was wearing it as a necklace.
"And what of the elders?" Nanami sat on the nearby stool and asked the next question.
"Let me handle them. Those old fools can do everything but stand from their tatami mats. Seriously, do they sleep in that dark room together?" Satoru waved his hand and muttered the last sentence to himself.
"The problem that we should be handling now is that boy over there…" Satoru interrupted Nanami who was about to ask another question and pointed at his behind, specifically Kenshin who had been quiet all this time.
"Oh right. They must've seen everything. We'll just call Ijichi to handle them."
Nanami was about to grab his phone and call the most stressed man in the world when Satoru suddenly stopped him.
"The problem is, that guy isn't normal. He took down some of the mind-controlled customers by himself." Satoru whispered to his ear, which amusingly, was as loud as normal speaking, confusing Nanami if Satoru was intentionally doing it.
"Maybe we should jus—"
Unfortunately, before Nanami could finish his words, Satoru had already made his move.
"Hey there! Are you two a couple? You don't mind if I sit here, do you?"
'This guy!' Nanami's face twitched after seeing the casual approach of Satoru, acting as if he were close friends with the guy and even had the audacity to sit next to him.
"Satoru Gojo. Can you please leave us alone for a while?" Kenshin's eyes stared directly at Satoru's white mask and a pressure descended across the entire shop.
Sawako was exempted from it but Satoru and Nanami can feel it.
While Satoru just shrugged the pressure off, the same can't be said of Nanami, who was forced to kneel on the ground.
'W-What the hell?!' He gritted his teeth.
Who is this boy?!
