Makoto Itou. As the protagonist of 'School Days', he is infamous for his handsome looks and morally questionable behavior.
[Note: What happened below will be the spoiler for the story of 'School Days'. You've been warned.]
Makoto's story is a whirlwind of entanglements with various women, using his charm to his advantage while engaging in shady acts like secret photography, manipulations, and pretenses of innocence. Despite having ambiguous relationships with many girls, his character is marked by indecisiveness and an insatiable desire for control.
While harem protagonists are not unusual in anime, most have redeeming qualities:
- Some, like Aki Tomoya from 'How to Raise a Boring Girlfriend', remain devoted to their true love despite attracting attention from many.
- Others exist in fantastical settings that justify their harems, like Issei Hyoudou in 'High School DxD'.
- And some pursue relationships as part of a greater mission, like Shido Itsuka in 'Date A Live'.
Makoto Ito, on the other hand, is uniquely despicable. He manipulates others, avoids responsibility, and even builds a harem without informing anyone involved. To describe him as "trash" is an understatement.
His story ends in infamy: Sekai Saionji, betrayed and enraged, stabs him to death. What follows is a sequence of horrifying events. Kotonoha Katsura discovers Makoto's lifeless body, descends into madness, and dismembers him. She then confronts Sekai, kills her with a hatchet, and even cuts open her stomach to confirm whether she was truly pregnant.
In the end, Kotonoha drifts on a boat, holding Makoto's severed head, whispering, '"At last, we can be together forever..."'
The chilling imagery of that scene lingers in memory, sending shivers down one's spine.

Makoto looked at the notebook before him, admiring its quality. After a brief pause, he pulled a pen from his pocket.
What does one do upon finding a notebook?
Naturally, you write your name to stake your claim! That's what any ordinary person would do, right?
With an air of nonchalance, Makoto opened the notebook and boldly wrote on the first page:
Makoto Itou.
---
Ten minutes later…
Alexander stood over Makoto's lifeless body, death note in hand. His eyes fell on the name written in bold letters: 'Makoto Itou.' With a deep sigh, Alexander muttered,
"Boy, you had to go and write nonsense, didn't you? Look where it got you—dead."
Shaking his head, Alexander continued,
"At your age, you shouldn't have turned into a self-destructive time bomb. Well, it's over now. People will probably make jokes about you for years to come. 'Mikoto Itou, the laughingstock…' What a way to go."
With a faint smile, Alexander gently closed Makoto's eyes and disappeared.

Meanwhile, at Alexander's house, a group of people gathered for a celebration. Victory had been all but guaranteed, but they saw no harm in commemorating their triumph. After all, any reason to celebrate is reason enough.
"Everyone, I'm back!"
At that moment, Alexander returned, holding two death notes in his hands. As soon as he stepped in, Mikoto shot him an annoyed glare.
"Why are you so late? Don't you know everyone's been waiting for you?" she snapped.
"Sorry, sorry," Alexander replied with a sheepish smile. "I had to step out to deal with a troublesome guy."
As he spoke, Alexander placed the notebooks aside. Noticing them, Kanna, standing nearby, lit up with excitement.
"Onii-chan, is one of these notebooks a gift for Kanna?" she asked curiously, picking up one of them—the Death Note. Naturally, she had no idea what it was, as the anime Death Note had long been banned, and she had never seen it.
"This isn't a toy!" Alexander quickly snatched the notebook from her hands. "This is the Death Note! Anyone whose name is written in it will die!"
Kanna pouted in confusion but said nothing. Alexander sighed in relief. She's still just a child; what if she had written something? he thought.
"What? Something that interesting exists?"
Hearing the commotion, Nero dashed over, her eyes sparkling as she eyed the Death Note. Alexander could tell that Nero wasn't interested in the notebook's ominous power—she just found it amusing.
Without hesitation, she grabbed a pen and scribbled down Gilgamesh.
"Hey! What are you doing, you mongrel?!" Gilgamesh roared, startled by Nero's actions. "Why are you writing my name? What did I ever do to you? This king has no quarrel with you!"
Despite his outrage, Alexander shook his head and sighed.
"Nero, it's pointless to write 'Gilgamesh.' Heroic spirits are technically already dead."
Alexander quickly reclaimed the Death Note and stored it safely in his personal space.
"This thing needs to stay out of reach," he muttered. "Makoto's story was a comedy, not a tragedy. Let's make sure it stays that way."
