Chapter 395: Chapter 396: Let’s Work Part-Time

"It's so cold… why did I come to a place like this? T^T"

In the middle of a bustling street, a petite and adorable girl with twin ponytails walked silently, shivering from the cold.

Her name was Hestia—a goddess, once revered in the world of 'DanMachi' ('Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?'). What wrong had she committed to end up like this?

Her identity was, without exaggeration, extraordinary.

In ancient Greek mythology, Hestia was known as the goddess of the hearth, the kitchen, and fire itself. She was one of the twelve Olympian gods, a figure of utmost sanctity on Mount Olympus. Alongside Artemis, the goddess of the moon, and Athena, the goddess of wisdom, she was revered as one of the three most sacred deities of Olympus.

However, in the world of 'DanMachi', the gods were not omnipotent. Their divine powers were sealed, rendering them little more than ordinary beings, save for their godly appearances.

Thus, the Hestia of today was no more than a stunningly beautiful girl—a shadow of her former divine glory.

"Ugh, how unlucky can I get?" Hestia muttered, clutching her arms against the chill. "I'm a goddess, for crying out loud! First, I was kicked out by Hephaestus, left without a Familia, and now I've been thrown into this unfamiliar world. Why is my luck so terrible?!"

Hestia's frustration was palpable as she stomped her feet on the pavement. Unlike others who sought revenge or wished to rewrite their destinies, her only desire was to live a simple, peaceful life.

But even that seemed out of reach.

If she were back in the world of 'DanMachi', at least she could visit her friends and beg for a meal. Here, however, she had no one. No connections. No prospects.

"Ahhh! I refuse to die like this!" she cried, her voice trembling with despair. "If Loki finds out I starved to death in a foreign world, she'd laugh herself silly!"

Just when Hestia thought all hope was lost, the doors of a nearby McDonald's opened, and a figure stepped out.

It was a young woman with a long, single purple ponytail. She exuded an air of elegance and poise, her very presence radiating intellectual beauty. Her professional demeanor suggested that her appearance wasn't just natural charm but also tied to her line of work.

She was the manager of this McDonald's—The Golden Arches—and a barista as well. With a figure and looks that could rival a professional model's, she caught attention effortlessly.

At that moment, her eyes landed on the forlorn Hestia, who sat huddled in the corner by the door, looking pitiful and lost.

Moved by compassion, the woman approached her. With a soft and gentle voice, she asked, "Are you all right?"

"Little sister, are you all right? Why are you here alone instead of at home?"

It seemed that the goddess-like store manager, Kisaki Mayumi, wasn't familiar with the world of anime. Otherwise, she might have recognized the goddess standing before her.

"And you are…?" Hestia looked curiously at the elegant woman. Maybe it was her beauty or perhaps a goddess's intuition, but Hestia found herself instinctively liking her.

"My name is Kisaki Mayumi. I'm the manager of this McDonald's. Are you lost? Do you need help?" Mayumi asked with a kind smile.

Hestia's lips quivered, her eyes filling with tears. "I… I'm so miserable!" she burst out, crying pitifully. Through her sobs, she explained her situation. "I got lost… and I don't know how to get home."

"Do you have your parents' phone numbers? I can call them for you," Mayumi offered gently, trying to comfort the distraught girl.

But Hestia froze at the question. 'Parents?' She didn't have any parents. Not in this world.

Her voice barely above a whisper, she shook her head and muttered, "I don't have parents. I don't know anyone in this world…"

"No one at all? Could she be… an orphan?" Mayumi thought to herself. Her gaze softened as she observed Hestia's thin, inadequate clothing—a sad contrast to the chilly autumn weather.

After a moment's hesitation, Mayumi said, "If you don't mind, there's a position available at our store as a cashier. The pay isn't high, but it's enough to cover your basic needs. Would you be interested?"

Hestia blinked, taken aback by the offer. Her pride flared. She was a goddess—'a majestic goddess!' A deity meant to be admired and revered by all. The idea of working in a shop, of all places, felt beneath her.

Still, a voice in the back of her mind whispered: 'Gentlemen don't eat free meals.'

With a determined look, she thought to herself, 'But I, Hestia, always have a choice!'
