Chapter 36: Countdown for an End

[Grey Pov]

I looked again at the remains of the Bat cave, I blinked. Once. Twice. Then rubbed my eyes.

The warning was still there.

[World End: 23:50:23]

[Cause: A Dimension Boom]

My heart sank. My hands curled into fists.

This... This is madness.

Who would detonate an entire dimension?! Who could even do this?!

And then it hit me—The Man in Golden Armor.

He's the only one. The only one with the power, the arrogance, and the sheer insanity to pull off something like this.

I turned to Batman. He was staring at the timer too, his jaw tight, his mind already working a million miles per hour.

I took a deep breath. This wasn't up for debate.

[Grey]: Batman. Gather everyone you know. Everyone you trust. Because we are leaving this dimension. Now.

There was a moment of silence.

Then Batman moved.

Fast.

He pulled out a communicator, his voice sharp, controlled—but urgent.

[Bruce]: Oracle. Code Black Omega. Activate all emergency protocols. Get everyone on the secure list ready for immediate evacuation.

Static. Then a female voice crackled through.

[Oracle]: Bruce... what the hell is going on?

[Bruce]: No time to explain. We have twenty-three hours before this dimension ceases to exist.

[Oracle]: ...What.

[Grey]: More like twenty-three hours and fifty minutes, but yeah, details.

The Bat-Family was already moving. Red Robin was pulling up schematics, Nightwing was on another line contacting the League, Damian was barking orders at Alfred—who, despite everything, was still making tea like this was just another Tuesday.

Then I heard it.

A deep, cracking laughter.

It wasn't human. It wasn't meant to be heard by human ears.

It came from everywhere.

And I knew.

He was already watching us.

The Man in Golden Armor was here.

The laughter grew louder, rattling through the remains of the Batcave like the toll of a funeral bell.

Then, as if the very fabric of reality was tearing apart, a golden rift opened before us.

And he stepped through.

The Man in Golden Armor.

His presence alone felt wrong—like the universe itself was bending to accommodate his existence. His armor shimmered unnaturally, glowing with a light that didn't belong in this world. His helmet obscured his face, but I could feel his gaze on me. On all of us.

Then, he chuckled. A sound like grinding metal.

[Golden Armor Man]: This looks too easy for you.

I felt a pit form in my stomach.

No. No, no, no—

He tilted his head, as if pondering something, then snapped his fingers.

And the world screamed.

Dark portals ripped open across the entire planet. From Gotham to Metropolis, from Atlantis to Themyscira—every city, every stronghold, every refuge.

And from them, they came.

Eldritch horrors.

Not just one. Not just a handful.

An entire invasion.

Tentacled abominations crawled from the void. Shadows longer than the buildings they slithered through loomed over terrified citizens. Massive, multi-eyed creatures with mouths too wide and teeth too jagged shrieked into the heavens.

The world fell into chaos instantly.

The Bat-Family's comms exploded with screams and reports—

[Oracle]: GOTHAM IS UNDER ATTACK—WHAT THE HELL ARE THESE THINGS—

[Superman]: Metropolis is overrun! J'onn, I need—AGH— [static]

[Wonder Woman]: Themyscira is… burning—

And then, the final nail in the coffin—

The golden rift pulsed.

And the timer changed.

[World End: 01:00:00]

One hour.

My blood turned to ice.

[Grey]: You… you cut the time?!

The Man in Golden Armor laughed.

[Golden Armor Man]: Why not? If you had a chance, now you don't! Have fun, little fish.

Then—he vanished.

Leaving us staring at a dying world.

I slammed open the chat group. My fingers flew over the interface, sending another SOS with a priority alert.

Then, I typed a direct message to Tony Stark.

[Grey]: Tony. This is Grey. Bring the Avengers. Bring EVERYONE. Prep for war.

I didn't wait for a reply. I charged into the battlefield alongside the Bat-Family.

Tentacles lashed out. Teeth snapped inches from my face. I spun, axe flashing, cleaving through the horrors as the others fought beside me.

Nightwing vaulted off my back, his escrima sticks crackling with electricity as he shattered a monster's skull.

Red Hood was dual-wielding pistols, unloading clip after clip into the eldritch abominations.

Robin—Damian—was a whirlwind of steel, his katana slicing through limbs, eyes, and whatever counted as throats.

Batman.

Batman wasn't saying a word.

He didn't have to.

He fought with brutal efficiency, every strike calculated to cripple, to kill, to move to the next enemy without wasting a second.

I sidestepped a lunging horror and shouted over the carnage.

[Grey]: Batman! Get whoever you can and take them to Gotham!

He didn't hesitate. He tapped into his comms.

[Batman]: Batwoman, Spoiler, Orphan, gather survivors. Signal, Nightwing—secure the rooftops. Red Robin, find a defensible location in Gotham—

I didn't hear the rest. I slammed my hands together, forcing energy into my fingertips.

A portal tore open in space.

Not just anywhere.

The Mexican desert. Marvel's world.

Wind rushed through the swirling void. The burning sands of another universe stretched beyond.

I turned to the Bat-Family.

[Grey]: Move! We're getting backup!

As I said, three shadows came out of the portal, they were...

[Technoblade]: The SOS didn't lie, this is really a big fight.

[Arakan]: Just finished on the zombie side and now tentacle h@$%$ I need a rest.

[Rimuru]: Grey, you really need to put it to rest with the flights.

I blinked.

Three powerhouses had just stepped out of the portal.

Technoblade. The legendary warrior, armed to the teeth, his red cape billowing in the desert wind.

Arakan. A battle-worn fighter, still wiping zombie guts off his armor, looking very unimpressed with our current tentacle apocalypse.

Rimuru. The slime-turned-demon-lord, arms crossed, giving me a look that screamed "Really? Again?"

I grinned.

[Grey]: Hey, no time for complaints—either fight or let the eldritch horrors win.

Technoblade cracked his knuckles, rolling his neck.

[Technoblade]: Blood for the Blood God, I guess.

With a single step, he vanished, reappearing inside Gotham like a war god descending from the heavens. His sword flashed, carving through monstrosities like butter.

Arakan sighed, but his hands were already moving.

[Arakan]: Fine, fine, but I want a damn vacation after this.

He slammed his foot into the ground, and spires of stone erupted beneath the horrors, impaling them instantly.

Rimuru just shrugged.

[Rimuru]: "I'll handle the cleanup."

Then he opened his mouth.

A black hole formed, a devouring abyss that sucked in dozens of eldritch abominations, erasing them from existence.

The Bat-Family—and everyone still alive—stared.

Nightwing turned to me.

[Nightwing]: Grey. Who the hell are your friends?

I grinned.

[Grey]: The kind that gets stuff done.

Then the skies split open again.

A golden portal erupted above Gotham and more horrible eldritch abominations came out.
