Chapter 38: Strucker's Desperation & The Avengers' Move

News reports of Ultron's rampage were slowly overshadowed by another developing story: renewed activity at Baron Strucker's HYDRA base in Sokovia. After the Scepter's disappearance and Project Insight's collapse, Strucker had become frantic, pushing his human experimentation to new, more reckless extremes. The screams of his test subjects, amplified by their burgeoning powers, finally became too loud to ignore.

"Looks like the Avengers are finally getting off their asses," Adam muttered, watching a live feed. On screen, a Quinjet, sleek and menacing, sliced through the Sokovian sky, heading straight for The Castle. "Took them long enough. Guess mass human rights violations are more of a priority than rogue AI threatening the internet."

Erik Selvig, ever the scientist, was more concerned with the energy readings. "The residual energy from Strucker's continued experiments… it's crude, chaotic. He's trying to replicate the Scepter's effects without the Scepter. Desperate. Foolish."

"Desperate men do desperate things," Adam replied. "Which usually means they blow up spectacularly. And the Avengers are just the crew to light the fuse."

His comms crackled. It was 'Ghost'. "Avengers inbound, multiple assets. Stark, Rogers, Romanoff, Barton, Banner/Hulk, and Thor. Full complement. Their objective is Strucker and his remaining assets. They've detected multiple enhanced individuals within the compound."

"The twins' old 'friends'," Adam noted. "Poor bastards. Anyway, 'Ghost', I want full data siphon from their comms. Tactical readouts. Who's where. Who's doing what. We need to know how they operate in the field, what their strategies are, especially against super-enhanced targets. This is basically a live-fire exercise for us."

"And 'Ghost'," Adam added, "use this. 'Advanced Tactical Scryer'. It'll give you better real-time data interpretation. I'm going even deeper into debt for this, so make it count."

On the screen, the Quinjet landed, deploying the Avengers. Captain America led the charge, shield raised, followed by Iron Man, Thor, Black Widow, and Hawkeye. Hulk, of course, was already smashing.

"They're going in," Adam narrated for Wanda and Pietro, who had joined him, their expressions complex. They knew what was happening inside that castle. They had escaped it.

"Watch their teamwork," Adam instructed. "How they coordinate. How they deal with multiple targets. This is a chance to learn from the best, and also to see their weaknesses."

The battle raged. Flashes of repulsor blasts, the crack of thunder, the thud of Mjolnir, the whir of Cap's shield, the roar of the Hulk. It was chaos, but controlled chaos on the Avengers' part. They systematically dismantled Strucker's remaining forces.

"Romanoff and Barton are splitting off," 'Ghost' reported. "Likely targeting command and control. Stark is engaging a heavily armored target. Thor and Hulk are… making an impact."

Adam watched, fascinated. This was the opening scene of Age of Ultron. He remembered how it went down. How Wanda and Pietro would briefly join Ultron, driven by their hatred for Stark.

"Keep an eye on any enhanced individuals that aren't Avengers," Adam murmured. He knew Wanda and Pietro were in there, briefly. But not as targets for the Guild. They were here now.

The battle climaxed with Strucker's capture. The last remnants of Project Insight-era HYDRA, seemingly, were crushed. But Adam knew better. The biggest threat had already emerged. And he was about to get a lot more dangerous.

"Alright, 'Ghost', pull all the data," Adam commanded. "This was a good recon. Now, let's analyze what we've learned about Earth's Mightiest Heroes. Because soon, we might be on a collision course with what they created."
