Isekai Journey Of The Magic Archer

Chapter 1098: The cruelty of darkness

[OP: ]

In a deep darkness surrounded by darkness of a murkier kind, a being was floating above the ground.

There was a strange energy circulating around this being, a strange energy that evoked a primal sense of fear within anyone who witnessed it.

Clad in black robes that seemed to be an extension of its body, the creature resembled a spector or the beings of the underworld.

It possessed a power that was not demonic in nature, but at the same time, the power was dark and it had something very strange about it.

[{( "Hmmm…" )}]

This power was gloomy.

There was loneliness that one could eerily feel when they were even able to feel it.

It was a power unique in nature, and at the same time, the eyes that shone from under the hooded cardigan solidified those emotions.

[{( "Unbelievable." )}]

There was loneliness in those eyes. A kind of sadness that could not be explained with anything.

The eyes themselves were also not the only thing that was unique about this being. It was the whole Aura that was present around them.

Their entire existence, the powers that they possessed, the darkness that was present around them, the dark bubble in which Eon was present right now floating right before this creature, to the being that this ’puppet’ belonged to.

Everything about them was… negative.

[{( "It has been 3 months inside…" )}]

Just being in the direct presence of this being would evoke all kinds of negative emotions within an individual.

However, the powers that they had, the authority that they were using, the ability through which they had created a special mental realm, the bubble in which Eon was present right now, all of it was much worse than the presence that they possessed.

[{( "Commendable." )}]

It praised with an even sadder look, and infused even more of its divine power within the unique mental space that it had created.

[{( "How long though?" )}]

The being shook its head and the sadness on it deepened further.

[{( "Mortality will always have limits." )}]

-OOOOOOOOOOONG…!

The darkness around the bubble that Eon was in intensified many folds and it became so dark that not even the little light that was present around it remained anymore.

The bubble was completely swallowed by darkness, a darkness so negative that… not even the demonic powers of the demons could be compared to it.

*

[{ *Master…* }]

Within this bubble, Eon was witnessing yet another tortuous scene.

’It’s meaningless, Lucy…’

Before him, just like how it had been happening since the last… for a long time, people were being killed.

First it was blades, then the people died due to something else, following that, the people that were killed appeared again, confused of what had just happened to them, and then, they were killed the same way they died the first time.

After that, they were killed again after their limbs were chopped off. Then they were killed after their heads were chopped off.

At one point, the instant killings stopped and they were left with few dangerous wounds to suffer and die in pain.

He watched as Anna’s one hand was cut off and she died in utter agony. He watched as beasts that appeared out of nowhere teared apart his father.

He watched as people that his mother trusted killed her. And he watched as individuals with no face… did horrible things before taking Rein’s life.

’It’s all meaningless…’

He watched as people died.

He watched as people that he knew and trusted did things that they would never do.

He watched as things that did not make any sense happened right before his eyes.

He watched the world being swallowed up by the demons and darkness. He watched as the heavenly messengers that carried the will of the gods descended onto the earth and… took lives of the innocent people.

He did not care about the others, but all the people that he cared about were especially targeted by these beings and so… he watched them die and be used in the schemes of those divine beings.

He had remembered every single thing that had happened before him ever since he appeared in this space. He knew there was someone that was showing all of this to him and that none of it was real.

He knew that what he was seeing was not real at all, but the emotions that he was feeling as he watched the ones he loved and cared about being killed, being tortured, being backstabbed, being taken advantage of, being bullied and being r-...

He could not bear it anymore.

With his cursed memories, he would not forget any of it, but at the same time, there was nothing that he could do about it either.

The scenes that were going on before him even now, even though they had become monotonous to him at this point, they still did not feel any less painful than the first time.

"E-Eon…!"

Every time he saw his mother dying because of him, every time he saw his mother’s suffering, every time he saw how all the imaginable and unimaginably horrible bad things could happen to her… his mind broke by a fragment.

"Big… brother…"

Every time he saw his precious sister being killed, dying with small wounds, dying with life threatening wounds… every time he saw his Anna’s tears, he couldn’t care less about how this was all just fake.

He was simply doing what anyone in his situation would do… cry without any tears.

"Eon…"

As much as it was painful to see Anna, it was even more painful to see just how horrible things were being done to his Rein.

The pain, the suffering, the kind of agony that he felt at this moment were not something he had ever thought he would feel.

His heart broke the first time this all happened, when he saw the first pile of corpses before him. And then, his heart continued breaking down as he watched the increasingly horrible things that were happening before him.

[{ *Master!* }]

He knew all of this was fake, he could hear Lucy’s voice even in this space so he knew this space was different from the actual mind’s darkness that he had entered in the snake dungeon.

This was just someone else’s prison that he was trapped inside, but even after trying his best, he could neither move his body, nor any of the energy he had within him.

The Solnova was not responding, the Mana was not even perceivable in this space, and the Aura in his mind had become stagnant.

There was simply nothing that could help him here.

Lucy’s comforting voice that gave him a sense of reality, after one point… also became meaningless.

[{ *Master! You must not give up!* }]

He had endured this torture for a time even he could not fathom. He knew not much time had passed actually, but at the same time, he was also aware that this place had a different flow of time so, it wouldn’t matter anyway.

The being that was showing him all this could do so for eternity, and… the pain that accumulates inside him would just keep breaking him away bit by bit.

’It’s pointless, Lucy…’

There was no meaning to this anymore.

He did not know just how much longer this torture would continue so he wanted to just… end it here.

He wanted to finish this and just… rest.

Everyone was dying. Everything was ending.

He had seen the worst of the worst. He had seen the things that he never wanted to see and he had seen and felt all that he might have ever wanted to prevent.

All of it had happened so… easily before his eyes that he now thought the ones that were showing it to him also possessed enough power to actually do it all for real as well.

To end all that he had worked so hard for… it was so easy… so meaningless to THEM.

He was just like any other mortal in front of them, meaningless and insignificant.

The difference in powers was not the only thing that gave him despair at this point. It was also his sense of responsibility that had broken over the long period.

Seeing the one that he loved the most being killed so easily… seeing his Love, his partner, in a state that he did not want even his worst enemies to face.

Seeing all that, feeling what they might feel if they were actually in that situation… the darkness, the pain, the despair, the loathing, the sheer hatred for the situation, this world, and him… who could not save them.

It did not mean anything that they were fake, their use of their powers was also not something that he took into consideration at that point.

It was all…

Just…

’Meaningless.’

What if something like what he had seen until now actually happens to anyone?

What if he is just as helpless then as well?

What if there’s… nothing left to do after doing everything he could, after giving his all?

Before the absolute power of these beings… what did he, a simple mortal being, amount to?

[{ *It’s not meaningless, master!* }]

Her words carried weight, but he was now doubting if it even meant anything. Though…

[{ *If it’s not meaningless to me, then it’s not to you either!* }]

Thanks to her, he was able to realise something.

[{ *We are ONE, master!* }]

He was Axion Heliox Kromet, son of a wonderful couple and successor of a divine master, big brother of two genius sisters, fiancé of an amazing witch, and a goal that many were chasing.

[{ *WE MUST FIGHT!* }]

A fire that had always existed within him sparked for the first time when he was facing his darkest moment.

’Right…’

A feather of fire was ignited on his arm, and his eyes were blazed with determination as he realised something he had not when he tried to access his Legacy in the snake dungeon.

’We are one.’

He was not alone in this world… thanks to his master, he will never be as well.
