Chapter 48: Chapter 48 : Order of the Phoenix
Before Anduin could finish, Sirius interrupted, "I'm talking about my house! How did it turn into this after I was gone for a while? Oh my, this place looks even newer than when I first bought it!"
Anduin had thought Sirius was asking how the food was made and was kindly explaining it to him. Realizing his mistake, he said, "Come on, we're wizards! Isn't this just a flick of the wand?"
"You've got to be kidding. I've seen others use cleaning spells, and they're nothing like this. Damn, even the grease stains on the carpet are gone." Sirius looked around in disbelief.
"That's because their skill isn't up to par. I have unique cleaning spells," said Anduin with a mysterious air.
After dinner, Sirius was still recovering from the shock, walking from the living room to the kitchen, from the kitchen to the bathroom, touching this and looking at that, as if he were in someone else's house.
Anduin, having cleared the table, came out of the kitchen, glanced at Sirius, and after a moment's thought said, "Sirius, there's something I need to tell you."
Sirius happily turned around and said, "Hmm, what is it? By the way, you're really good at housework, almost as virtuous as a housewife, and your cooking is delicious too."
Anduin was speechless at Sirius's description, rolled his eyes, and said, "I'm talking about something serious. I've heard that Death Eaters might attack members of the Order of the Phoenix around Christmas."
Upon hearing this, Sirius immediately became serious and said, "Are you sure? How does a kid studying at Hogwarts know so much?"
"Well, you should know that I, a student at Hogwarts, was sorted into Slytherin," Anduin said to Sirius with a playful look.
Sirius raised an eyebrow when he heard that and said, "You mean . . . ?".
Anduin walked over to the fireplace, sat on the nearby sofa, and gestured for Sirius to sit as well, saying, "That's right. I heard it from a senior Slytherin student named Quirk Wilkes. He said he heard it from an elder in his family. Do you know any Death Eaters named Wilkes?"
"Many Death Eaters' identities are secret. I only know a few, but I remember this Wilkes. He's very close to Snape, Avery, Mulciber, and Rosier. I've suspected that guy for a long time, but unfortunately, the Ministry of Magic says they need solid evidence to arrest these guys, and they all wear magic masks when they act, so unless they're caught red-handed, it's useless," Sirius said bitterly.
"You mean, even if you already know who some Death Eaters are, unless they're caught in the act, even if they parade right in front of you, you can't act against them?" Anduin looked at Sirius incredulously. 'Don't these people know what a 'suspect' is? Can't they detain and question them? Or is there some other force preventing it?'
Sirius squinted, as if recalling something unpleasant, and said, "That's right. However, things have improved a lot since Milliicent Bagnold took office. Before, even if someone made evil statements or secretly tortured Muggles and was identified by them, they couldn't be directly convicted. Many people in the Ministry of Magic and the Wizengamot Council secretly supported the Dark Lord."
Sirius paused, then continued, "But since Milliicent Bagnold took office, her stance has been very firm. Dumbledore has also been constantly lobbying Wizengamot members for support. Now, the methods that can be applied are much broader than before. Before, we could only defend passively, which was very disadvantageous."
"So, can't they now directly remove those suspected Death Eaters under the pretext of 'assisting an investigation' or something similar?" Anduin was surprised by the inefficiency of the British Ministry of Magic and lamented the intense internal political struggles.
"That's still not possible. Some people don't dare to offend the Dark Lord, and some even support him. Moreover, many Death Eaters come from pure-blood families, and they have complex relationships with many Wizengamot members. We can't act without concrete evidence," Sirius said helplessly.
"Then you need to contact the Order of the Phoenix quickly and tell them to be careful and prepared. If they can be well prepared, maybe this could also be an opportunity!" If the external environment can't be resolved, then they can only find a solution from within, Anduin said to Sirius.
Sirius stood up and paced back and forth in front of the fireplace, deep in thought. After a while, he nodded and said, "That's right, I need to notify Dumbledore quickly. Regardless of whether the Death Eaters actually show up, being prepared is always good. But if the Death Eaters attack and find us already ambushed, they will definitely investigate the cause of the leaked information, which could put you in danger."
Sirius thought that, first, although he personally took early warnings from an underage wizard very seriously, he wasn't sure they were completely accurate. Second, if an attack really happened, the Death Eaters would likely conduct an internal investigation, and Anduin, being involved in the leak, could be in danger.
Anduin thought for a moment, reflecting that although that possibility existed, his information had actually come from Rosier, so the likelihood of him being discovered was low. If he was discovered, he could just stay at Hogwarts from then on.
After thinking it through, Anduin said, "My method of gathering information is very discreet, so it's unlikely anyone will notice it was me. So there's no need to worry too much. Besides, I'm not someone to be trifled with. Have you forgotten who saved your life?"
As soon as Anduin mentioned that, Sirius immediately became displeased and said, "You have to understand, I could have taken out those two idiots perfectly fine without you getting involved. The fact that the Death Eaters didn't hurt you just means you were lucky."
After saying this, he went to the fireplace, pulled out his wand, and cast a spell on the fire. Soon, the face of an old man appeared in the embers, vaguely recognizable as Dumbledore.
"What's going on, Sirius? It's rare to see you contact me directly like this," said Dumbledore, formed in the embers, looking at Sirius.
"It's like this, I have something to report . . ." Sirius relayed to Dumbledore the information Anduin had given him, and also presented his own conjectures.
"Hmm, very important information. Anduin, you say? I remember you and Lily mentioning him before. I didn't expect him to be living at your house. Tomorrow I will personally host an Order of the Phoenix meeting. Could you bring Anduin as well? There are things better confirmed in person," said Dumbledore.
