Chapter 267: A favor to be returned tenfold
Lucas invited her in. He felt a bit awkward, but he also wanted to be polite. He put the tray on the table and offered her a seat.
"Thank you, but I have to go. I have to help my father with the others. He's very busy these days. There are a lot of travelers coming to Lilypud. They say there's something big happening soon." Lila said, standing at the door.
"Something big? What do you mean?" Lucas asked, curious.
"I usually charge for the information but as it's your first time out in the town, I will share it with you for free."
"Sounds bad for business."
"I know," She giggled again and continued, "There is an alchemy competition a few weeks later, I am sure that there is going to be a big price pool."
"That is some good information, Lilia. Thank you." Lucas said and looked at the hot food on the table again.
"I will leave you with your food now, talk later?"
"Sureee, anytime. I am jobless anyway."
"Do you have your class? Ugh, sorry, never mind, I will ask you later when we meet. Bye!" She said while running and waving back at him.
Lucas waved at her and closed the door fast, his gaze fell on the tray and the next second, he was sitting right in front of it with a serious expression.
Lucas ate a portion and his eyes bulged, he looked at the food and the next second, he took a big potion again and ate it in just a few bites.
"DELICIOUS!!!!" He explained while holding back a punch in excitement.
The food was over before he knew it yet he was still not satiated, Lucas had eaten a lot but he needed some more.
Finally, after his procrastination was over, Lucas decided to go out and explore the town. He may have lived here his whole life in memories yet he still had to see things.
He wanted to see what Lilypud had to offer and where he could go to work on his skills and also earn some big money.
He put on some good clothes and grabbed the key and the small backpack.
He left his room and locked the door. He walked down the stairs and saw the man sitting on the same chair as yesterday. He was still looking at the women in the market.
Lucas greeted him yet the man only grunted in response. He didn't seem to care much about Lucas.
Lucas shrugged and walked out of the building.
He entered the market and looked around. There were a lot of stalls and shops selling various goods and services.
He saw clothes, weapons, armor, jewelry, books, potions, herbs, spices, food, animals, and more.
Just when he was looking around, Lucas's gaze fell on an individual selling some fruits in a stall.
His eyes widened and the bloodlust formed again, Lucas grabbed the mark and with frustration, looked away from the creature.
'What's a monster doing here??' He thought and that was when the pain struck his brain again, Lucas fell to the ground and held his head.
He could withstand pain but still, when the brain hurt and he wanted to crush his skull inside out, it meant that the pain was unrealistic.
"Hey kid, are you okay?"
"What happened, lad?"
"Is he dying?! Call the healer, quick!"
But all Lucas could see was a memory playing out. This was when he was interacting with the monster with the stall casually and then a book where he read about the different creatures that existed in this world.
And now in front of him, there was one of these species present sitting peacefully selling fucking goods as if it was normal.
'Goblin…'
There were creatures mixed in this society with different races and cultures than humans.
He read about humans, elves, dwarves, orcs, goblins, and others. He read names of different languages and accents.
Lucas woke up to many people trying to help him up, he looked at their concerned faces and couldn't help but feel something inside him.
There was still humanity left in the world, the things he had been listening to all this while in his territory from the others, of how humans raided another human's territory just for fun or resources.
Lucas felt a tap on his shoulder and he looked back only to be surprised once more.
The small goblin that had a brown face had come up to him with an apple in hand, the goblin offered him the apple which he took without realizing.
He saw the goblin leave in front of his eyes, Lucas looked at the apple and the shine on it.
"Hey, maybe you should not eat that," Find more adventures on My Virtual Library Empire
Lucas heard a man in front of him say.
"Why?"
"Because he is a halfling." The man said and spat on the ground with disgust.
Lucas felt all the eyes around him go to the goblin who had been sitting there all this time with eyes down.
Lucas regretted having the mark right now, while the others felt like the goblin was unfazed, Lucas could feel pain and loneliness from him.
'Am I the one who is racist?' Suddenly, the thought formed in his mind.
All this time, he had only killed creatures that were not like him, things had changed and Lucas wanted to tame the small creatures but what about the more humanoid ones?
They were also there in the world trying to survive just like the humans. Lucas felt like he had been very narrow-minded all this time.
He looked at the goblin again who was not reciprocating yet Lucas knew he had noticed the gaze.
Lucas in front of all the people took a bite of the apple that was given to him. He knew just by looking at it that there was no poison in it thanks to his herbalism skill.
The goblin moved his face up quickly and looked at him with surprise but Lucas just nodded toward him and the other people that helped him and started moving.
He was going to pay off this favor tenfold and the goblin had not realized that his life was finally going to change for good.
For now, Lucas wanted to have fun for a few more moments until he had to go and learn everything this town could provide.
He had already noticed the shadow that was following him.
He had noticed the eyes that were watching him.
But he hadn't noticed the danger that was looming over him.
