Matthew looked at Alex Ray in confusion, thinking, Is he trying to recruit me? Doesn't he know I'm not like them?

Alex smiled and said to Matthew, "Although we aren't the same kind of people, we all share a common goal—to make Hell's Kitchen better, right? There's no conflict in that."

From the last time Matthew supported Marcus and Caine, it was clear he wasn't stubborn. As long as it meant improving Hell's Kitchen, Matthew would give it his all.

Matthew expressed his full agreement. Indeed, if it was for Hell's Kitchen, he was willing to do whatever it took.

However, after some thought, Matthew decided to decline Alex's invitation.

He lifted his head, looked into Alex's eyes, and said firmly, "Alex, I appreciate your offer. Your plan excites me. But I still want to do things my own way. I believe only by following my path can I truly save those in need."

Alex was a little surprised by Matthew's words but didn't give up.

He understood Matthew's persistence and stubbornness but was also aware of Matthew's current situation.

Stepping closer, Alex locked eyes with Matthew and said seriously, "Matthew, I get what you're thinking, but look at yourself now. Your life is already in shambles—how can you find the strength to save others? You have to take care of yourself first, so you can better help those around you."

Alex strongly disagreed with Matthew's idea. He believed it was wise to improve one's own life if possible.

Even if I'm struggling, I still want to help others.

But in reality, no one would remember Matthew. Everything he did was just to impress himself.

Matthew was shaken by Alex's words. He smiled helplessly and said, "Sometimes I really hate my own helplessness. Alex, we both want Hell's Kitchen to be better. You've saved all of Hell's Kitchen."

"And I haven't changed anything—my life just keeps falling apart."

"Sometimes, I hate that I can hear strangers' cries for help every night and can't turn away. I try my best, but I can't save everyone."

His words carried a deep sense of powerlessness, as if trapped in an endless abyss of despair.

This feeling also made Alex feel helpless, but he knew that if he didn't change Matthew's mindset soon, Matthew might spiral further and collapse entirely.

Alex took a deep breath and softened his tone. "Matthew, you're not wrong. You've saved many people, but it's not enough. You have to change the environment."

"It's like saving a demon in hell—the demon doesn't become an angel because of your rescue. Instead, it's seen as a heretic because it doesn't fit with the other demons. Heretics get eliminated."

"Only by turning hell into heaven can you turn demons into angels."

"No one person can save everyone. That's why you should join us."

Matthew raised his head and looked into Alex's eyes. A glimmer of light sparked there.

Alex continued, "Everyone here is working hard to improve Hell's Kitchen. You can see it for yourself—things are getting better. That proves our direction is right, so you should join us."

Hearing Alex's words, Matthew began to agree. Recently, the cries for help were fewer, replaced by laughter.

Am I really going to keep making the same mistakes? Matthew wondered.

Seeing Matthew hesitate, Alex quickly said, "Wanda has taken over Kingpin's business and needs some lawyers. The new school will have disputes with the city government—you can handle those."

"You can keep an eye on Kingpin's operations to catch any illegal activity. Isn't that worth it?"

As Alex spoke, Matthew's inner conflict rippled like a lake stirred by wind, growing bigger.

He always believed his path was right, but now he doubted if he'd been completely correct.

Matthew looked at Alex, much younger than himself. He hadn't expected that, in the end, he, a lawyer, didn't understand things as well as Alex.

That made Matthew admire Alex even more.

He smiled and said, "It would've been better if you'd shown up in Hell's Kitchen earlier."

That sentence expressed both admiration for Alex and regret for his own past.

Matthew wished he had grown up in a Hell's Kitchen managed by Alex. Maybe then his life wouldn't have been so broken.

Alex smiled and said, "It's not too late."

His tone was full of confidence and determination—as if to say that no matter when you start, if you're determined, you can change everything.

Matthew was deeply moved. His heart began to shift.

He extended his hand sincerely, "Then please guide me, Boss. I'll watch you closely—to make sure you don't become the next Kingpin."

Before coming, Matthew had researched Alex thoroughly. After this talk, he realized Alex was a partner worthy of fighting alongside. Though he joined Alex, Matthew would still protect Hell's Kitchen in his own way.

Alex held Matthew's hand, eyes sparkling. "Then you're welcome here. Of course, you can keep watching me. I won't become Kingpin—I'll only be Alex Ray."

His voice was steady and strong, promising Matthew he was trustworthy and would lead them toward a better future.

Alex then said, "I'll take you to pick a room first, and you'll report to Wanda tomorrow."

"Pietro, show this new partner upstairs to choose a room," Alex instructed.

As Pietro and Matthew walked upstairs slowly, in the corner of the restaurant, the security guard John Wick, who had been slacking off, couldn't help but approach Alex, his face full of confusion and curiosity.

"Boss, why do you take such good care of this blind guy? Got a thing for blind men?" John asked bluntly.

John's curiosity came from overhearing Alex and Matthew's conversation while making wolfberry tea.

He'd never seen Alex persuade someone so patiently, especially a stranger who was blind.

This raised serious questions in his mind.

Alex rolled his eyes at John Wick and frowned slightly. "I'm not interested in men."

John looked even more confused. "Then why help him? Why invite him to join us?"

Alex took a deep breath, eyes distant and deep.

He spoke slowly, with a faint sigh, "I'm just advising another me."

After that, he turned and walked straight upstairs, leaving John Wick standing there like a lost wanderer, completely unable to grasp the meaning.

Alex thought quietly: Another self without a system or background—a self struggling but still kind.

The reason he cared so much for Matthew wasn't just because he was blind.

He saw his own shadow in Matthew.

A self without a system or support, yet still insisting on kindness despite a hard life.

Matthew's appearance was just a small episode to Alex.

Alex was looking forward to the system upgrade tomorrow.

After all, Alex was a man with a system.

He knew the system's importance and hoped the upgrade would bring him greater convenience and power.
