Chapter 111: Marvel 111
Leon scratched his head. "If it were me, I'd have rushed straight into higher-ranked dungeons and probably gotten myself killed. These guys are smart for testing their limits here first."
Trion nodded thoughtfully. "I'd have joined a guild for training first. It's odd they haven't joined one yet. They're strong enough to skip a lot of steps, but still… guilds are safer."
"Maybe they have their reasons," Leon suggested. The group shrugged before refocusing on their own tasks, meticulously collecting the magic cores from the defeated goblins.
"Well, whatever their reasons, let's just finish our job and get out of here," Trion said, turning back to harvest the cores. The other two followed suit, occasionally sneaking glances at the impressive trio.
The trio continued as they slaughter Goblins, soon reaching a big door.
"This is the boss chamber," Brian said as Matt nodded. "Let's harvest the magic crystals first, and then we'll deal with the boss," he added. The group agreed.
Although it was a D-rank dungeon, along the way, they'd stumbled upon clusters of magic crystals. These crystals were highly valuable, akin to batteries in this new mana-driven world, and were worth a good amount of money.
After spending some time harvesting the crystals, the team stood before the boss chamber. Entering calmly, they found themselves face-to-face with a massive, red-skinned humanoid goblin wielding a staff.
It was a Red Hob Shaman—a more dangerous variant of goblin bosses. The creature sat upon a crude throne, its malicious grin revealing sharp teeth as it let out a bone-chilling laugh.
"Kekekekekeke!"
The Shaman's laugh echoed ominously as it rose, pointing its staff toward Matt and the others. A swarm of goblin guards surrounded the Shaman, ready to attack.
Matt stepped forward calmly, raising one hand. A golden light shimmered as a massive blade materialized, glowing with intense energy. With a single swing of the sword, an arc of energy sliced through all the goblin guards, cutting them down instantly.
The Shaman's laughter stopped abruptly as it saw its guards drop to the ground, lifeless.
"That sword… what is it?" Liam asked, amazed by the sheer power Matt had displayed.
"Just an advanced technique I developed," Matt said nonchalantly.
The Shaman snarled, raising its staff and chanting rapidly. Crimson energy began swirling around it as it prepared to cast a spell.
"you guys can take care of it, it will be a good training partner" Matt commanded.
Brian and Liam nodded, springing into action. Brian charged forward, his Trait empowering him with enhanced strength, while Liam's elemental spirits surged around him, flames crackling and bolts of lightning sparking as they launched attacks.
But as Brian closed the distance, the Shaman slammed its staff into the ground, creating a shockwave that sent him stumbling backward.
Liam's elemental attacks hit the Shaman, but its red aura absorbed most of the impact.
"This thing is stronger than it looks," Liam muttered.
"Doesn't matter," Matt said as he glanced at them " compared to your A rank mana his D rank mana won't harm you guys" he said as they nodded and continued to fight it.
"This thing is stronger than it looks," Liam muttered, dodging another burst of crimson energy from the Shaman.
"Doesn't matter," Matt said calmly, glancing back at the group. "Compared to your A-rank mana, his D-rank mana won't even scratch you."
Hearing his words, Liam and Brian nodded, confidence surging through them.
"You're right," Liam said, summoning his elemental spirits again. The fire and lightning spirits crackled with energy, emboldened by his determination.
Brian grinned, tightening his grip on his weapon. "Let's show this oversized goblin what we're made of!"
They moved in tandem, weaving around the Shaman's erratic attacks. Liam's spirits launched volleys of fireballs and lightning bolts, keeping the Shaman on edge, while Brian closed the distance, landing heavy blows that forced the creature back.
Despite its strength, the Shaman's attacks began to falter under their relentless assault.
"See?" Matt said with a small smirk. "You've got this."
He stood back, observing as his teammates fought with increasing coordination and confidence. Though the Shaman was tough, it was clear they were learning to properly use their abilities.
"I wonder why you guys haven't joined a guild?" Leon suddenly asked.
Matt replied casually, "I'm planning to make my own guild. That's why."
Leon raised an eyebrow, surprised. "Good luck with that."
"I was planning to invite you guys," Matt added with a grin.
Leon exchanged glances with Trion and Misty. "But come on, compared to you guys, we're nothing," Trion admitted, albeit reluctantly.
"Yeah, we'd just be a burden to you," Misty said, her tone a mix of humility and realism.
Matt smirked. "My skill allows me to see someone's potential. That's the reason I've selected you. You have more in you than you realize."
Their expressions shifted to curiosity and a hint of hope.
"You guys might even undergo a second awakening," Matt said, his voice filled with certainty.
"Second awakening?" Leon asked, clearly intrigued.
Matt nodded. "It's rare, but it happens. Someone who's ranked low, like E or D, can suddenly leap to higher stages—sometimes all the way to S rank. It's not something that happens often, but with the right guidance, it's possible."
The group looked at Matt, now seeing him in a different light.
"Are you serious about that?" Leon asked, his voice tinged with skepticism but also a glimmer of hope.
Matt nodded firmly. "Yeah, I've seen the signs in you all. You have the potential, but it's up to you to push yourselves beyond your limits."
Leon clenched his fists, determination rising in his eyes. "Alright then, show us the way. If there's even a chance, I want to take it."
Misty and Trion nodded as well, their earlier hesitation replaced with a spark of ambition.
"Good," Matt said with a satisfied smile. "Let's finish this dungeon first, and I'll show you what real training looks like."
Matt looked back as he saw Brian and Liam have now defeated the Red Hob Shaman as Liam is now ready to deliver the final strike.
" stop" Matt stopped them as they looked at him.
