Chapter 58: Chapter 58: Snatching Business
"The weather tonight is so beautiful!"
Standing in the middle of a deserted highway, Alex lifted his head and sighed with emotion as if he were a poet admiring the night sky. Turning to the two men behind him, he asked, "What do you think?"
"Big bro, if you say it's nice, then it's definitely nice. The weather tonight is perfect, absolutely perfect!"
The two men, who were dressed stylishly yet sported bruised and swollen faces, nodded in agreement. Their expressions were filled with flattery, and their postures screamed submission, clearly not daring to oppose Alex in the slightest.
"Hmm."
Satisfied with their response, Alex shot them a glance and turned his gaze toward the distant end of the highway.
To understand why these two self-proclaimed superheroes were so terrified of Alex, we must start from the beginning.
---
Earlier that day, after lunch, Alex ran into them in the conference room. For some inexplicable reason, after Nick Fury finished his briefing, these two had the audacity to provoke Alex. Naturally, Alex—who was known for his fiery temper—wouldn't tolerate their arrogance. He immediately taught them a lesson, beating them to the point where they were groveling on the floor, utterly subdued.
In the end, the two superheroes swore on their lives that they would obey Alex from then on, which finally made him stop.
---
As for why they were standing in the middle of the road late at night, it was because they had just received news: Butchery had openly revealed his presence in the heart of the city, reducing a hospital to rubble.
An enraged Nick Fury abandoned the "attempt diplomacy" policy and ordered Alex and his team to counterattack immediately.
Since Butchery's target was a girl named Sarah, their first priority was to get her under their protection, which would in turn allow them to deal with Butchery.
---
"Phew…"
Seeing Alex no longer paying them any attention, the two superheroes simultaneously let out a sigh of relief. When they exchanged glances, their eyes were filled with bitter regret.
As superheroes, when had they ever been forced to bow and scrape like this?
But they couldn't blame anyone but themselves. They had foolishly underestimated Alex, and now they had to face the consequences.
---
"They're here! Stay alert!"
"Yes, boss!"
At Alex's command, the two older superheroes—both at least a decade older than Alex—snapped into attention, saluting with military precision that would put active-duty soldiers to shame.
Although they couldn't see anything approaching in the distance, their earlier humiliation at Alex's hands had taught them not to question him. With suppressed emotions, they focused intently on the road ahead.
---
Meanwhile, Alex's sharp eyes spotted a yellow car speeding toward them from a distance.
"What the hell is that thing?" the driver, a stocky Black man, yelled in frustration.
"I told you it was big!" Ethan replied anxiously while constantly glancing behind them.
In the back seat sat Sarah, a beautiful girl whose expression was equally tense.
(Side note: Seriously, the actress in the movie doesn't even look twenty—major cringe!)
"You did say it was big, but you didn't tell me it could swallow a whole car!" the driver shouted back before turning to Sarah. "Are you Sarah?"
Before Sarah could respond, a stylishly dressed old man suddenly appeared in front of their car, recklessly throwing himself at the vehicle.
"Oh my God! What's happening?"
"Look out!"
"Ahhh!"
Amid their screams, the car struck the old man head-on, sending him flying several meters before he landed with a heavy thud on the asphalt. Strangely, after hitting the ground, his head quickly morphed into a helmet-like structure.
Ethan gasped. "I saw him in a dream back at Jack's shop—he's one of Butchery's men! We need to get out of here!"
"Got it!"
The driver, who had initially considered checking on the old man, immediately abandoned the idea and tried restarting the car.
Unfortunately, the car chose this critical moment to stall, refusing to start no matter how hard he tried.
"Hurry up!"
Sarah and Ethan were practically shouting in unison, desperate to escape.
At the same time, the old man, who had just been hit, got up as if nothing had happened.
He strode over to the car, ripped off the tightly shut door, and yanked the driver out of his seat before reaching for Sarah in the back.
---
"Bastard! Let go of me!"
"You're dead meat!"
Both Ethan and the driver launched punches at the old man. However, their attacks were utterly ineffective, leaving them with swollen fists instead.
"Foolish mortals."
The old man sneered and casually swatted them away like flies, sending them rolling across the ground. Grabbing Sarah, he began dragging her away.
---
"Hey, buddy, are you trying to steal my business?"
A teasing voice suddenly broke the tension.
"Who's there?"
Startled, the old man turned to see three figures standing nearby—a young man flanked by two older ones. All three were grinning, their expressions resembling spectators at a zoo watching monkeys.
One of the older men pointed at the old man and said, "That girl is ours. If you're smart, let her go and surrender peacefully—"
Before he could finish, Alex smacked him on the head.
"Boss…"
The older man looked at Alex with a mixture of grievance and confusion, not understanding why he was being hit.
Alex glared at him in exasperation. "We're soldiers, he's a thief, and a terrorist to boot! Why the hell are you being polite? Do you really think he'll surrender? Listen up—if you're going to fight, don't waste time talking. Strength is what matters!"
"Yes, sir!"
Although they had their doubts, neither man dared argue with Alex. They simply nodded in agreement.
Satisfied, Alex pointed at one of them and then at the old man. "Good. Go beat him up."
"Yes, sir!"
Having learned their lesson, the older superhero rushed forward without hesitation.
"You dare act arrogant in front of me, General Atrox?" the old man roared, summoning a sword out of thin air to counterattack.
Unfortunately for him, the superhero's iron fist sent him flying within seconds.
---
Atrox's defeat was swift and humiliating. After spouting the cliché villain line, "You'll regret this!" he vanished into thin air.
Meanwhile, back in Los Angeles, an ominous voice echoed through the night:
"Arise, my warriors… Our era has begun… Hail the great Butchery!"
As black mist surged forth, a new threat loomed over the city, shrouded in darkness.
