Chapter 62: Chapter 61: Doctor Strange
"Enemies?" Captain America and the others were filled with confusion.
This was Avengers Headquarters—who in their right mind would dare attack here?
Could it be that Thanos had made an early move?
However, when they stepped outside, they discovered the reality was far from what they imagined.
The "enemies" were a group of soldiers from England.
Outside, on the lawn surrounding Avengers Headquarters, five helicopters hovered in the air. One by one, fully armed English soldiers rappelled down, forming a perimeter around the building.
Iron Man's face showed a trace of disbelief. "No way... that idiot politician is actually serious?"
Captain America sighed. "Looks like we'll need to find another place to talk."
"Assuming they'll even let us leave," Peter muttered, his unease growing stronger.
Not long ago, he had been with Ant-Man and his family of fugitives, only to get cornered by the FBI in a building.
Now, here he was again, with Captain America and Iron Man, trapped by soldiers in yet another building.
He was starting to seriously suspect that something was wrong with the way he entered this universe!
He was a law-abiding, friendly citizen—so why did he keep ending up either being chased by the FBI or surrounded by the military?
"Alright, let's make this quick," Iron Man began assigning tasks. "Vision, cut off communications in this area. Wanda, disarm their weapons. Everyone else, head for the Quinjet."
What followed gave Peter a glimpse of the combat capabilities of Vision and Wanda as a team.
Vision's eyes glowed faintly, and in an instant, all communication in the vicinity of the base went silent.
This was to prevent the impulsive Secretary of State from issuing any rash and extreme orders.
At the same time, the weapons in the soldiers' hands were enveloped by crimson magical energy. They flew into the air, disintegrating into dust, leaving nothing behind.
Now, the soldiers stood unarmed, looking bewildered, unsure whether to advance or retreat.
Iron Man and the others didn't intend to make things difficult for them.
After all, their mission was to address the crisis and save the world, not to wage war against the English Parliament.
If they harmed these soldiers, everything would take a very different turn.
The Quinjet quickly took off, heading toward Bleecker Street in New York City.
Whether it was the stealth technology of the Quinjet that made it impossible for the Secretary of State to track them or Vision and Wanda's earlier actions that had a deterrent effect, they encountered no further resistance along the way.
To avoid causing panic, Captain America decided to keep the Quinjet hovering in the air above Bleecker Street upon their arrival.
The task of finding Doctor Strange was entrusted to Peter, Wanda, Vision, and a curious Iron Man, who insisted on tagging along.
Peter awkwardly realized that he was the only one who couldn't fly.
"Need a hand?" Iron Man walked over and asked.
Peter was a bit taken aback by his friendly gesture but politely declined.
It was just a drop of about seventy meters—he wouldn't be hurt even if he hit the ground face-first.
Besides, who said Spider-Man couldn't "fly"?
Ssssh—
The rear door of the Quinjet opened, and Vision and Wanda flew out one after the other.
Peter immediately followed and jumped out as well.
In mid-air, he spread his arms slightly and issued a command to his suit's assistant system: "Wingsuit mode."
[Wingsuit mode activated.]
With a mechanical tone from the suit's system, a web-like membrane unfolded between Peter's arms and along his sides.
This membrane was, in fact, made of spider silk material.
It was usually stored in the armpit area of his suit but could deploy when needed, temporarily transforming his Spider-Man suit into a "Spider Wingsuit," enabling him to glide.
However, the web fluid reservoir was limited, and crafting the membrane used a large amount of it, meaning this function could only be used twice before needing a refill.
This made Peter somewhat envious of the Holland Spider's nanometal suit, which could retract and redeploy at will and could be reused unless severely damaged.
He wondered if he'd ever get the chance to snag one from Iron Man.
Whoosh whoosh whoosh—
The sound of wind rushed past his ears.
Within seconds, Peter was descending into the space between the buildings.
Without hesitation, he released the wingsuit membrane and fired a web toward the side, landing lightly on the wall of a building. Then, he climbed down the wall and made his way to the ground.
Vision, Wanda, and Iron Man landed beside him.
"Wanda, it's your turn now," Vision said.
Wanda nodded, and crimson magical energy began to gather around her.
The energy surged outward in all directions, spreading through the area.
However, it caused no harm to ordinary people—most wouldn't even notice the presence of the magic at all.
Because from the very beginning, this energy wasn't meant for ordinary people!
At the same time, within the Sanctum Sanctorum, where he was meditating, Doctor Strange abruptly opened his eyes.
"Chaos magic!"
"Strange!" Wong burst into the room in a panic.
Doctor Strange nodded calmly to him. "I've already sensed it. Let's meet this wielder of chaos magic and see what she wants by suddenly coming here."
"Found it!"
Outside the Sanctum Sanctorum, Wanda suddenly opened her eyes, locking her gaze in a specific direction.
Peter and the others followed her line of sight and saw what appeared to be a very ordinary apartment building. It looked completely inconspicuous.
In fact, if not for Wanda's guidance, they might not have even noticed that this unassuming building was there.
Wait—Peter suddenly understood.
Diminished presence and selective perception—these were key traits of the Sanctum Sanctorum!
What he saw wasn't real. This place was indeed the Sanctum Sanctorum!
Wanda began walking toward it, and Peter and the others naturally followed behind her.
However, before they could get closer, a glowing portal suddenly appeared before them.
"Greetings, wielder of chaos magic, Mr. Stark, Mr. Vision, and our visitor from a parallel universe. I am Stephen Strange, Sorcerer Supreme, though you can call me Doctor Strange—I rather like being addressed that way."
On the other side of the portal stood an extravagant man clad in a red cloak.
"Hello, Doctor Strange. We came specifically to find you," Peter said, stepping forward from the group.
Doctor Strange's gaze lingered on Peter. "Do you realize that your presence here has already violated the laws of the multiverse? It could potentially bring unimaginable consequences to this world."
"I didn't want to come here either, but the fact that I inexplicably ended up here might just be the multiverse's laws acting on their own," Peter replied with a shrug, his tone tinged with helplessness.
At the same time, he silently thought to himself: The Sorcerer Supreme's priorities are certainly unique.
