Chapter 28: Chapter 28: The SCP Foundation’s Door Opens for You
Mihari was praised, but she didn't feel happy. She anxiously held onto Mahiro's hand. If the female transformation drug was considered an anomaly…
Then what would this organization, which fights against anomalies, do to Mahiro?
Haruto waved his hand.
"Rest assured, we won't harm either of you."
Hearing this, Mihari relaxed slightly but still held onto Mahiro's hand.
"Miha…"
Seeing this, Mahiro held Mihari's hand in return, reassuring her.
Haruto paused for a moment, giving them time to process everything and calm down before continuing, "This female transformation drug has almost completely reconstructed the human body. It is extremely thorough. In a way, it is gradually erasing a person's original identity."
Haruto's words stunned the two girls.
Mahiro looked puzzled. Meanwhile, Mihari furrowed her brows.
Haruto continued:
"A person's thoughts are influenced by their body. A child, an adult, and an elderly person will all perceive the same event differently. As far as I know, someone once tried to fully understand the world by preserving versions of themselves at different ages.
But eventually, those different versions came into conflict, leading to their own self-destruction, leaving only one survivor.
If age alone has such an impact, imagine how completely changing one's gender would affect their thoughts. Do you understand now?"
Mihari nodded heavily. She had already noticed that her older brother's habits were quietly changing. After some time, he had completely become a girl.
Just as Haruto had said, as his body changed, so did his mindset.
Her heart sank.
She blamed herself.
Even though she never intended to completely change Mahiro's mind, she just wanted him to experience a different life.
To become more cheerful and stop being a shut-in. But she shouldn't have made such a decision on her own.
As she wallowed in guilt, Miharu suddenly felt a small body hugging her.
It was Mahiro.
"Onii-chan?"
Mihari's eyes welled up with tears, unable to look at Mahiro directly. Mahiro, however, softly yet firmly said,
"I'm actually very grateful to you, Miha. My life now… is so much better than before. I've made friends, and I've gotten even closer to you. So, I'm really happy. Don't overthink it, and don't blame yourself."
Mihari lifted her head, looking at Mahiro, who was smiling sincerely, and her tears couldn't stop falling.
Even Haruto, who was merely an observer, couldn't help but be moved by their bond. After crying and laughing, the two girls felt a bit embarrassed.
After all, breaking down in front of a stranger was pretty mortifying.
"What a heartwarming sibling relationship."
Haruto teased.
"Please forget this ever happened!"
The two girls spoke in unison.
Haruto chuckled and waved his hand before shaking the drug bottle.
"In any case, this drug is quite dangerous. So I'm sorry, but Oyama Mihari, you won't be allowed to continue researching it."
Mihari nodded. Although it was her life's work, she wasn't the type to stubbornly ignore reason. Mahiro, however, hesitated and asked,
"Then what should I do?"
The gender transformation potion wasn't permanent. Instead, its effects increased sequentially with each dose. The first time it was taken, it lasted for about a year.
Although Mahiro had taken it a second time, the duration still wouldn't extend to an entire lifetime.
"Since Mahiro-san is willing, of course, the potion can continue to be used. However, it must not be spread to others."
Haruto said with a smile.
The two girls breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing this. They both felt that this was the best outcome. However, Haruto continued speaking,
"But the gender transformation potion is Mihari-san's masterpiece, so it won't end so simply. The Foundation is willing to offer a substantial sum to purchase exclusive rights to the gender transformation potion."
As he spoke, Haruto pointed at Mihari's phone.Just at that moment, a text message arrived.
Mhirai picked it up and checked.
It was a bank notification for a received transfer.
The long string of numbers on the message left Mihari momentarily dazed.
Mahiro leaned over as well. Upon seeing the ridiculous number, she couldn't help but let out a loud scream.
"Wow!!! We're rich!"
The two of them repeatedly confirmed the digits in the message. A surreal feeling began to set in.
Mihari pinched Mahiro's arm causing her to yelped in pain.
"If Oni-chan can feel pain, then I guess it's not a dream." Mihari sighed.
Miharo rubbed her arm, puffing up her cheeks in dissatisfaction like a little hamster.
"If you wanted to check if it was a dream, pinch yourself! Why pinch me?"
The two continued bickering, but they didn't let their newfound wealth go to their heads. Haruto found himself appreciating the sisters even more.
"One last thing, Mihari-san, you have a talent beyond the reach of ordinary people. The doors of the SCP Foundation are always open to you. You can come work for us at any time. As for compensation, it will be an astronomical amount befitting your abilities. Please consider it."
With that, Haruto handed over his business card.
He genuinely wanted to recruit mihari.
If the Foundation could gain such a genius...
A genius who could craft anomalous potions by hand...
Their research progress would skyrocket.
Mihari took the business card.
It had Haruto's private contact information as well as the Foundation's contact details.
"I'll seriously consider it," she said earnestly.
In truth, she was quite inclined to join the SCP Foundation. After all, it was an organization dedicated to protecting humanity.
Moreover, the SCP Foundation personnel she had interacted with; Haruto—had left a very good impression on her.
Currently, Mihari was in the final stages of her doctoral studies.
(She had skipped multiple grades from middle school straight to a PhD, making her status as a genius undeniable.)
At the moment, Xu Mihari hadn't found a job that truly interested her. And now, a position at the SCP Foundation was right in front of her. Of course, that was a decision for later.
After chatting for a while longer, the two sisters stood up to leave.
Before they left, Haruto casually added:
"If you ever encounter anomalies or dangers, you can always reach out to the Foundation. We'll deploy rescue immediately."
The sisters nodded, showing that they took his words seriously.
