Chapter 3: Chapter 3: Eleanor Bishop
"Big Bro, are you a superhero? Like Iron Man—zooming around fighting bad guys everywhere!"
"Big Bro, have you heard of the late-night hero in Manhattan? I think he's nowhere near as cool as you!"
"Big Bro, what superpowers do you have? Can I learn from you?"
"Big Bro…"
Aaron was starting to regret his decision. Kate was like a never-ending string of questions, rattling off one after another ever since he saved her.
He glanced at the two armed men standing nearby, both eyeing them warily. They'd shown up just moments before and after Aaron dealt with the kidnappers. In truth, even if Aaron hadn't acted, young Kate likely wouldn't have been hurt.
But from Kate's perspective, Aaron was like her guardian angel—descending from the sky at her most desperate moment.
And a very handsome angel at that!
Just like on TV!
"Kate, stop pestering your savior. I don't think you want him to see you as a noisy little alarm clock, right?"
A mature, authoritative female voice rang out from a distance.
Soon after, a capable-looking woman in a red dress approached.
"Mom!"
In an instant, Kate bounded toward her. Then, remembering something, she stepped aside to tidy her appearance, wearing a polite smile she'd clearly been trained to show. In a small voice, she asked, "Mom, am I really that bad?"
Eleanor chuckled and shook her head. Noticing Aaron, her eyes brightened, and she extended her hand.
"Thank you, Mr. Aaron. You saved my daughter!"
Aaron shook her hand. "No need to thank me. Kate's a bright girl. I doubt anyone would just stand by and watch her get hurt."
"But Ms. Eleanor, about what happens next…"
Aaron glanced at the scene. Even though he'd deliberately held back, thanks to his extreme speed those four kidnappers were already halfway to the afterlife—lying on the ground, unmoving, practically on their way to heaven together.
"My situation is a bit complicated. I really don't want to waste time explaining things to the police."
Eleanor cast a look of disgust at the kidnappers before turning back to Aaron with a courteous smile. "Don't worry, sir. We'll take care of everything. We won't trouble you for even one second!"
"In fact, we also have a gift for you!"
At her signal, a man in a suit approached, opened a briefcase, and revealed its contents.
"One million U.S. dollars!
"This is our token of appreciation. We hope you'll accept it."
So this was what it meant to be seriously rich—throwing a million around so casually.
Eleanor knew Kate probably wouldn't have come to real harm, but she still chose to offer a million in gratitude.
Just as Aaron thought that was the end of the matter, Eleanor added, "Due to time constraints, this is all the cash we can gather right now. There's another four million available. If you don't mind, Mr. Aaron, you can tell us where you're staying, and we'll have it delivered personally."
Darn these rich people!
They actually tried to bury him in money!
But fine, no problem.
"Mothe—cough, well, I don't have a place to stay in New York at the moment…"
"I understand completely!"
Eleanor was quick to pick up on his needs. Enthusiastically, she said, "Actually, I have a property in XX district in Manhattan. It's fully renovated, but no one's stayed there yet. However, I do have it cleaned regularly."
"If you don't mind, you can stay there temporarily until you find a new place."
At that moment, Aaron felt a bit like he was being "kept."
So this is what it's like to be filthy rich?
Still, Aaron wasn't exactly shocked; with his powers, he had unlimited potential.
Even now, he possessed advantages the Bishop family couldn't match—raw power!
Back in the normal 21st century, money made you king.
But in the Marvel universe, personal power is what reigns supreme!
After a momentary surprise, Aaron nodded calmly.
Eleanor's smile only grew. She became even more cordial toward Aaron, to the point of almost forgetting Kate was there. Kate pouted and followed a couple of steps behind.
Once Aaron's housing arrangement was settled, and after Kate reluctantly waved him goodbye, he parted ways with Eleanor and her entourage, then got back to his own agenda.
"Now…I need an identity!"
Away from anyone's notice, Aaron's brain functioned like an advanced computer, listing out tasks and filing them away in his mind. Meanwhile, he automatically logged onto the American network to look up whatever information he needed.
With his Super Brain and Network Manipulation, Aaron was like a walking phone and computer in one. No external devices required—one thought, and he could pull any information he wanted from the internet.
In his head, he contacted a shady dealer specializing in fake IDs.
From multiple sources, he had learned this guy was backed by either the FBI or someone at the Immigration Bureau—someone who could properly add a person's details into the system without setting off alarms.
Although Aaron could easily enter cyberspace now and do all sorts of amazing things there, hacking official systems to add his details wouldn't be simple. At least not in a short timeframe.
The sheer volume of data in the system was massive, and even he couldn't instantly verify each piece of information's validity and usage. He wasn't an AI, after all.
Plus, his network manipulation was currently limited to the features gleaned from that 2025 Iphone.
Still stuck "off the grid," Aaron couldn't even shop online.
So he decided to put more effort into gathering intel on this new world. Quickly, he pieced together the overall situation.
It was now 2010—Tony Stark had already declared "I am Iron Man!", but Thor's hammer hadn't yet fallen to Earth. Still, it wouldn't be long.
"Good thing I have time to develop my abilities. If I'd shown up right during the snap, I'd have to gamble with a fifty-fifty chance of vanishing.
"And even if I could be resurrected later on, that'd waste five priceless years I could be using to grow stronger."
Aaron thought to himself. He wasn't counting on the heroes winning a non-victory the way they did in Infinity War; he intended to control his fate.
He bundled up the local area data into a "folder" in his mind. Then he headed out, planning to visit the nearest pet store.
But when he opened the door, he found a small figure hovering timidly at the entrance.
"Kate?!"
