Chapter 140: Christopher vs the Knight I
Christopher vs the Knight I
Slow, purposeful steps echoed throughout the platform, or the arena as Christopher decided to call it, as the being within the gate stepped out.
Through the mist, Christopher quietly observed his opponent and couldn't help but be slightly surprised.
The figure looked like a humanoid knight. Their armor seemed to be sculpted from pale blue ice with fine edges, and their helmet was sharp and angular with a visor that had a single slit from which two pale blue eyes could be seen.
The knight wielded a sword that looked like it had been cut from the bottom of a glacier as it was a deep glacial blue that gave off a terrifying cold.
The knight gave off an Aura at the peak of the Grey rank, or god, depending on if one saw it as a sentient entity or a beast.
Moreover, its presence was heavy, literally. Its presence caused the Mana to move rampantly through the air as it stood poised. Its stance seemed to leave no openings, and it watched Christopher with chilling coldness.
Christopher straightened his arms and created an ice sword again, and entered a stance as well.
'This should be good, fighting something that has experience and a combat style. I should use this as a chance to train myself as much as possibl-' Christopher's thoughts were interrupted when the blade of the knight emerged just inches away from his forehead. There was no hesitation, no deviation, just pure intent to kill.

'Fast.' Christopher raised his sword and pushed the blade of the knight to the side, and following the motion, he spun his body and swung his sword at the knight's side.
However, the knight calmly moved its blade to block the attack, and when the two swords collided, a powerful shockwave erupted, and the ground at their feet cracked.
Yet, the knight didn't move an inch, and Christopher narrowed his eyes.
Then suddenly, the knight vanished and appeared behind him, its blade descending towards his shoulder. Christopher rotated his body so that the blade missed him by a few inches and thrust his sword towards the slit in the knight's visor.
But instead of blocking or dodging, it just turned its head to the side slightly, and Christopher's blade scraped off its helmet harmlessly.
Then, they both retreated slightly and observed each other for a moment.
'Swift and decisive.' Christopher noted as he and the Knight slowly circled each other. It was taller than him by half his height, so it had greater reach than him. But he had no problems extending his blade to compensate.
'Moreover, it seems to be using the mist to move faster than what it should be capable of normally.' He realised as he recalled how it appeared behind him in a flash, but he hadn't felt any spatial fluctuations, only that the mist behaved strangely for a brief instant before the knight appeared again.
'Its armor is durable as well.' He hummed. His blade didn't even leave a scratch when it scraped the side of the knight's helmet. It may not have been as effective as Scarlet, but it was still something he created with his magic. So it was undoubtedly better than average weapons, but the knight had shrugged it off.
However, before he could continue his musing, the Knight moved forward again, and Christopher moved to meet it.
Immediately, the two of them became a whirlwind of blades as they clashed countless times in a second, each clash causing deep cracks in the ground. Which was surprising considering the sheer force behind their blows.
But shockingly, Christopher seemed to be getting pushed back.
The knight's movements, as Christopher noted, were swift and decisive. It didn't hesitate to attack his vital spots, and each movement it made was purposeful and filled with dreadful killing intent.
Despite its size, its sword was fast and agile, moving almost like a snake as it attacked at impossible angles, made cunning feints, and so on.
Not to mention its ability to meld into the mist to almost teleport, the thing was moving with scary precision with a clear goal, and that was killing Christopher.
Despite all of this, though, Christopher was calm. Very calm, in fact. He kept his mind clear, and his eyes focused.
He observed every move the knight made and responded accordingly. Seeming content with just defending or evading attacks.
True to his goal, he was using this as a chance to temper his foundation, and the pressure the knight gave him was good. Welcome, in fact.
The way it moved resembled some of the fighting techniques Christopher had absorbed, but seeing it used with such intent opened up various pathways he hadn't considered before. After all, there was a difference between using a fighting style to train and using it to kill, and this knight was vmckearky after the latter. As such, it was applying the way it fought in ways Christopher hadn't seen before, putting pressure on him, pressure that he welcomed.
'Yes, just like that.' He urged silently, and slowly, he started to respond.
It was subtle at first, but he started countering here and there.
Keep in mind, the only bit of magic that was being used throughout the battle thus far was the Knight's ability to meld with the mist and Christopher's ice sword. Other than that, they had simply been using their physical abilities and wits to collide with each other, but the fight was already so intense.
The knight feinted, but Christopher didn't fall for it and instead shot forward, going on the direct offensive for once, and stabbed with one hand.
The knight retracted its blade and blocked Christopher's strike. However, the power behind it was lacking, to a suspicious degree.
That's because Christopher canceled his momentum at the last moment, so the heavy strike came off as a light tap, and another ice sword materialised in his free hand instantly, and it shot towards the slit in the knight's visor.
But it had been expecting that as it simply tilted its head down to allow its helmet to deflect the hit.
But the hit never came.
Instead, Christopher simply changed the trajectory of the blade and struck at the knight's chest along with the original blade.
The two ice swords struck true, however.
SHATTER
Like glass, the blades of the swords completely shattered into pieces, not even leaving a scratch on the knight's armor.
Christopher frowned behind his mask and ducked away just in time to avoid a slash that would have taken his head off.
He retreated a bit and peered at the knight.
'It's a lot more durable than I thought.' Christopher mused. He knew its armor was durable, but he didn't think the ice swords would be shattered from a single direct collision. Especially since he'd been enhancing them from the get-go and made them sharp and durable enough to handle creatures at the same rank as the knight.
For a moment, Christopher considered using his abilities as a 4th Dimensional being to just access the internals of the knight and shred it apart, but he resisted the urge and stood straight.
The knight tilted its head slightly as it noticed something about Christopher changed immediately.
Christopher exhaled white mist, and then his right hand moved to Scarlet's hilt. Then he paused and moved his hand away, and instead, he moved his left hand to Norn's hilt.
He felt a wave of dissatisfaction from Scarlet, but he ignored it. For the most part, Norn acted as a prop, and he only used her abilities, but he never used her as a weapon, which is what she is.
As such, he decided to keep Scarlet on standby for now and drew Norn, but he didn't do it normally.
Instead, he drew her quickly and immediately tied it into a slashing motion, and an invisible green light visible to just him escaped the weapon.
However, the knight could still tell that something was off and moved the instant Christopher slashed.
A moment later, there was a deep diagonal cut in the ground where the knight had been. And this cut wasn't normal either.
There was no debris or anything to indicate that the ground had been tampered with besides the cut itself.
'So that's fate attributed existence erasure huh?' Christopher mused as he observed the phenomenon.
In his eyes, when the green slash had traveled, the fate threads in its path were directly destroyed, and ad a result the things tied to those threads were destroyed as well, erasing them from existence.
It was an attack that completely ignored various forms of durability, and unless a being was of a higher class than it, or had resistance to such attacks, they'd end up the same way the ground had.
The knight recognised this, so it wasted no time in dodging to avoid being killed on the spot.
"This should be enough to break through your armor don't you think?" Christopher said casually as he tossed Norn from hand to hand.
The knight said nothing. Instead, it went from a two-handed grip to a one-handed grip on its sword, then it stretched its free hand and a shield that was of the dame glacial blue as the sword emerged from the ground and attached itself to its hand.
The knight then entered a stance and its Aura erupted. This caused Christopher to grin.
'That's it. That's what I want.' He started to walk forward.
'Give me everything you have!'
