My Real Job is Spying on Konoha, but I'm Also its Hokage

Chapter 56: Chapter 57: It's All Loneliness's Fault

Haneul certainly wasn't going to run in and get himself killed. His small frame wouldn't even be a snack for the Nine-Tails. However, based on Kushina's condition, it wasn't a full transformation, just a partial one, and she only had five tails. With Tsunade and Minato Namikaze there, it probably wouldn't be a major issue.

Haneul let out a sigh of relief, though he also felt a pang of envy. The amount of chakra was practically infinite, countless times more than his own. Even with his cheat system, his chakra reserves were only about mid-to-high tier, nothing exceptional. He wondered when he might get a Trait related to chakra capacity.

He didn't have to wait long before Kushina returned to normal. He quickly approached and saw that none of the three were injured.

"Haneul," Kushina said, a bit embarrassed. "I must have scared you, right? I'm sorry."

"Not at all," Haneul replied, shaking his head.

"I told you, this kid has always been fearless," Tsunade said with a light laugh. As her student, he was privy to the knowledge of the Nine-Tails, so they didn't try to hide it from him. Besides, he had already seen Kushina's partial transformation; there was no point in keeping it a secret now.

"As expected of Lady Tsunade's student," Minato Namikaze said with his characteristic warm smile.

Haneul felt a sense of friendliness from him. No wonder people called him the "Yellow Flash." But then... he remembered another one of Minato's nicknames, "Green Beast's rival." We Naruto game players really are something else!

"I thought you could already control the Nine-Tails. Why did you lose control today?" Tsunade asked Kushina.

"I was trying to borrow its power," Kushina explained.

Borrow? Haneul thought wryly. It's more like stealing. In the original story, Kushina and the Nine-Tails had a terrible relationship, where she frequently resorted to her Adamantine Sealing Chains.

"Be careful," Tsunade sighed. She wanted to advise against it, but as a jinchuriki, mastering the Nine-Tails' power was a necessity. It was not only for her own good but for the good of Konoha.

"I know," Kushina said, nudging Minato with her elbow and smiling. "With the Flying Thunder God Technique around, it won't be a problem."

"Mhm," Minato nodded. In the original story, the Flying Thunder God could even teleport away a Tailed Beast Bomb.

"What is the Nine-Tails?" Haneul asked, feigning ignorance.

"Legend says that the Sage of Six Paths had nine incredibly powerful summoned beasts, numbered one to nine according to their tails," Tsunade explained, a reminiscent look on her face. "The Nine-Tails is here, in Konoha."

"The First Hokage sealed the Nine-Tails," Minato added. "And the ninja used as its vessel is called a jinchuriki."

"I am this generation's jinchuriki of the Nine-Tails," Kushina said, her expression complex. Although the ninja villages treated their jinchuriki as ultimate weapons, their treatment was often poor because they frequently lost control. Since becoming a jinchuriki, Kushina had been under a form of house arrest.

"I have a question," Haneul said after a moment's hesitation. "Does the Nine-Tails have intelligence?"

"It does," Kushina answered. "Its intelligence is comparable to a human's."

"Then why not try to cooperate with it?" Haneul asked.

"Cooperate?" Kushina was taken aback, then shook her head. "It only feels hatred for me. Cooperation is impossible."

"I think it's worth a try," Haneul said seriously. "If you could cooperate, you wouldn't have to take such huge risks just to borrow its power."

Tsunade looked surprised. It had to be said, that was a truly unconventional line of thinking. Both previous Nine-Tails jinchuriki had never considered the Nine-Tails' feelings, nor had Konoha's leadership. They only ever wanted its power.

Minato's eyes lit up. It was indeed a brilliant idea.

"The problem is, we can't possibly let it out," Minato quickly pointed out the key issue. "So what could we even cooperate on?"

"I don't know," Haneul paused. "But since it's intelligent, maybe its interests are similar to a human's."

"Teach it to gamble!" Tsunade blurted out. She'd never gambled with a Tailed Beast before.

"That sounds interesting," Kushina's interest was piqued. The Nine-Tails was lonely, and so was she. Stuck inside a barrier all day, the number of people she could talk to was less than ten. Now, with the Nine-Tails, it was like she had a new toy.

"We can't send physical objects into the seal," Minato said, frowning slightly.

"Huh?" Kushina asked, disappointed. "Then what can we do?"

"Chakra is versatile," Haneul said after a moment of thought. "You could use chakra to simulate things."

"Great idea!" Kushina's eyes brightened. "Simulate what?"

"What do you do when you're bored?" Haneul countered.

"Read books or play games," Kushina said, a puzzled look on her face. "Would a Tailed Beast like that?"

"I don't know," Haneul said with a smile. "But you can try."

"Then let's start with a book!" Kushina said, pacing back and forth.

"Don't let it read everything at once. You have to keep it in suspense," Haneul suggested.

"What book do you think I should show it?" Kushina suddenly remembered something, took out a book, and asked, "How about this one?"

Seeing the book, Minato smiled his sun-like smile again. It was his favorite book, written by Jiraiya: The Tale of the Utterly Gutsy Ninja.

"I think that's a good choice," Haneul said, thinking back to his past life. When he first started reading web novels, he thought every single one was amazing. Only after reading for a long time did his standards rise. The Nine-Tails had never read a book before, so anything would be new to it. Most importantly, it was incredibly lonely. After being locked up for so long, anyone would be. Having something to read would be a welcome change.

Of course, Haneul didn't know if it would work. But if it failed, there was no loss. If it succeeded, however, Haneul could increase his favorability with Kushina and Minato, giving him another layer of security in Konoha.

"I'm going to find it now," Kushina said, closing her eyes. Her consciousness sank into a dark, vast space.

The Nine-Tails smelled Kushina's presence and instantly became enraged. It slammed against the iron gates of the seal, roaring, "Damn human! I'm going to devour you!"

A vicious wind swept towards her. Kushina retreated to the farthest point possible and began to use her chakra to form words. As an Uzumaki who had trained in sealing jutsu, both her chakra reserves and her control were more than sufficient for the task.

"Hey, big fox. Make sure you read this," Kushina said before leaving the sealed space.

"What is this?" The Nine-Tails instinctively looked over, curious to see what she was plotting.
