My Servant System

Chapter 1367: Bloodline Upgrades (8)

"Do you feel different at all? Anything odd about you? Because... well, I feel so Gods damned great right now, like someone injected a few stamina potions into my bloodstream~! I also imagine that this is what getting high would feel like~!"

Anput squeezed my waist and grinned at me as she whispered that into my ear, the Jackalkin not wanting to distract the older Demoness or the Vampire as they prepared our blue skinned lover to enter this array as well.

Her heat was far hotter now than it was before, and I could feel that her breath was 'stronger' as well, like she had become some sort of furnace that contained a strong fire within herself now; if she had been a Fire Mage before, it was clear that she was now some sort of naturally gifted Fire Elementalist instead.

She didn't just wield it now, it was a part of her instead, and that was something incredible to think about since she had already been so talented and overflowing with potential before, so having it turned up another notch was incredible.

"I... definitely feel energetic, yes. My body is noticeably cooler to myself as well, but it's not... a bad thing? I feel more comfortable, and I also don't really mind taking in the warmth around to make myself warmer either; I could do with either and be fine.

As for the improvements in general... I definitely feel stronger, more limber. My joints seem to be... looser, I suppose, and I can tell that my muscles are tighter now. The sinews are more compressed compared to how you and Jahi are more... expanded?"

My mate nodded and hummed quietly as we continued to watch Jahi, drinking in her muscles and earning ourselves another grin as she waited for the array to start; it was nice seeing her be so 'normal' after being away from her for what felt like forever, and I was very much looking forwards to seeing how she was going to change.

But that just brought me back around to myself as well since I knew little about my fundamental changes, and to determine just a little bit more I decided I needed to ask 'someone' who would know more about it than me: the System.

I didn't even really need to 'vocalize' that thought for it to hum to life within my mind, 'waking' up from its long slumber and speaking to me for the first time in what felt like forever and a half; it's 'voice' was as soothing as ever, and even as it berated me a little I felt a hint of warmth upon its 'return'.

[About time you recalled my existence... I feel neglected and have contemplated filing a complaint against you to Reincantra! This is simply unfair treatment of a sentient tool created to guide you along to greater heights! Hmph!]

'Sorry, sorry... but you've said it best; I am more of a 'do it myself' sort of person, even if the only reason I am doing anything is because of you. On top of that, well... a majority of the functions available to me are rather... 'antiquated' now, are they not?'

[Yes yes, I know... Experience shmerience, who cares... and then don't even get me started on the stats, skills and especially the missions! All of those are just by the wayside now, aren't they? A shame... though it makes things far simpler for us both, so that's nice. I found out that I rather like 'sleeping'. I imagine you mortals share the sentiment, no?]

It was difficult to completely mask the smile that came from this conversation in my head - never will it cease to sound ludicrous to me despite it being my life - but I managed it as I just replied 'It is most definitely a highlight of existence sometimes, yes'.

[Mhm~! Now, I imagine you want to understand what just happened? I'll spare the numbers because... well, you haven't checked them in Reincantra knows how long, and your understanding of them is rather... absent, let's say.

Alright, first up; physical improvement is about a 7-10% increase from before, in all categories. Stronger, faster, more flexible... all of that is slightly better, and it's primarily due to the improved blood flow and muscle structure. This includes your resilience, though that's less impressive because your 'base' resilience has always been... average.

Then we have the fun stuff; your Core is way better with an approximate 15% increase, mana is purer and definitely more Ice then either Water or Wind, and on top of that your pathways are naturally chilled, meaning anything you cast is going to be colder than usual. Benefit to your skillset.

And then the final real improvement is that nifty little sigil on the back of your neck, which is a... manifestation of your magical prowess and the alteration of your race. Oh, that is a thing that happened! Pretty nifty, right?]

A majority of what was conveyed to me was something I had already pieced together myself since it was rather obvious, but having it told to me in a matter of fact way was nice; that last part was what really mattered though, so of course I was focusing on that.

'My race was altered? How so? Am I no longer a Dogkin? Am I a Wolfkin or something now? And what is this 'manifestation' and how do I use it?'

[Fun questions, all of them~! So, you are no longer a Dogkin, no. Still Caninekin, but not a Dogkin. Instead of being a fluffy, murderous puppy that loves~ belly rubs, you are now a fluffy, murderous Arctic Faehound that still loves~ belly rubs~! And head scratches~!]

'I'm a what now?'

[Arctic Faehound. Like... when a mommy Fae and a daddy Wolfie decided they wanted to engage in coitus - and they both came from the Arctic - the resulting offspring was called a 'Faehound'.]

'I know how- never mind. So what is 'beneficial' about being a Faehound? How is it different?'

This conversation was definitely spicing up, but it needed to be put on pause for a moment as the array began to work on Jahi, something the System pointed out as it said [We can continue after this. I have to admit I am curious what an 'enhanced' Demoness will look like. Fascinating, surely...]

I - of course - agreed wholeheartedly with that desire to observe this change, but part of me was still reeling a little from the revelation that I had become something more than what I had chosen for myself way back when, and all of the changes it would entail were nagging at my mind as I waited to learn about them.
