After calming his mother down and sending her back to her room to sleep, Leyton himself couldn't fall asleep. To avoid worrying his mother, Leyton turned off the lights in his room and lay down on the bed.
Since he couldn't sleep anyway, Leyton simply lay in bed and began to meditate.
As images formed in his mind of golden sand grains coalescing into gears, chains, an eye without pupils, and a massive ring, Leyton felt his spirit was like that immense ring, constantly attracting the surrounding sand grains to draw closer and merge with him.
This time, Leyton didn't plunge his consciousness into the massive pupil-less eye. Instead, he focused his attention on the enormous ring, something he hadn't paid attention to before.
Leyton tried to slam his consciousness into the massive ring, composed of countless gears and chains, just as he had done before with the pupil-less eye.
"Buzz~" Leyton felt a wave of illusory buzzing resonate within his mind, without causing any actual impact, yet it made Leyton feel as if he had seen light, an untouchable light, and with that, the meditation ended.
"That massive ring doesn't seem to be rejecting me, but rather my spirit is not yet capable of enduring it, unable to touch that boundless radiance," Leyton reflected on the experience in his mind.
"Perhaps I need to reach Sequence 7, a Warlock, before I can interact with that massive ring. It's from Sequence 7 onwards that this path gradually embodies the transformation of knowledge into power," Leyton speculated based on his understanding of the Mystery Pryer pathway.
As for whether that massive ring had nothing to do with the Mystery Pryer pathway at all, Leyton didn't believe that was possible. It couldn't be that the Knowledge Moor had deliberately placed it there just to make that massive pupil-less eye appear less monotonous, could it?
Pondering the issues related to his visualized object, Leyton unconsciously fell asleep.
He slept soundly, and the next day he was awakened by his mother, Isabel.
"It seems last night's gunfire didn't affect your sleep at all. Sean has already bought breakfast. Go wash up and come downstairs to eat," His mother Isabel's voice seemed to always be warm and gentle.
"Okay!" Leyton scratched his head in response.
Although this was his mother, Leyton felt he hadn't fully grown accustomed to her care. Leyton couldn't completely immerse himself in the role of her son.
After his mother left, Leyton got out of bed, went to the washroom to wash up, and then changed his clothes.
After a hurried breakfast, Leyton took Bugs Bunny and went to the Executor Squad. Originally, his mother wanted Leyton to leave Bugs Bunny behind to keep her company, but Bugs Bunny vividly remembered the ordeal of yesterday's bath and was completely unwilling to be alone with his mother. He clung to Leyton's shoulder and refused to let go.
Isabel had originally planned to personally deliver lunch to the Church of the God of Knowledge and Wisdom at noon, but Leyton declined, saying he wanted to have lunch with his colleagues.
Isabel didn't feel disappointed at this. Instead, she smiled and praised Leyton for growing up and knowing how to maintain good relationships with his colleagues.
As the carriage passed through the area where the gunfire had been heard last night, Leyton saw that two houses on this street had already been sealed off by the Security Bureau.
Upon arriving at the Executor Squad, Captain Icanton told Leyton that his potion would be approved tomorrow. Madan was missing a main ingredient, which had to be transferred from Lenberg, hence the delay.
Finally receiving news about the potion, Leyton breathed a sigh of relief, no longer worrying that the Church wouldn't approve his potion.
Subsequently, Leyton was assigned a new task by the captain: to accompany Mr. Kosith to investigate the situation at the suburban cemetery, the same cemetery that Sia had set on fire before. There had been rumors of hauntings there again in the past few days.
After receiving the task, Leyton set off with Mr. Kosith.
On the carriage to the suburban cemetery, Leyton curiously asked, "Teacher Koss, is that cemetery some kind of mystical land? Why is it always haunted!"
"Not really. The remains buried there have all undergone the Church's baptism, so there shouldn't be any cases of corpses reanimating or ghosts appearing," Mr. Kosith replied in a serious manner.
"So, someone is pretending to be a ghost to scare people?" Leyton voiced his guess.
After all, extraordinary events in this world, when averaged out across each location, are actually quite rare. Just as Josie had said before, half of the events handled by the Executor Squad are fake extraordinary events.
"That's possible, but it's more likely that there are Beyonders gathering nearby," Mr. Kosith paused here.
After a moment of thought, he continued, "Witnesses have seen creatures resembling werewolves in this area. This situation is likely due to infection and control by werewolf venom."
"Werewolves?" Leyton felt a slight surprise and nervousness in his heart.
If it really was a werewolf, Leyton thought that the combination of himself and Mr. Kosith was a bit like delivering food.
At the Sequence 7 level, in terms of combat ability, werewolves are considered above average. However, Knowledge Keepers of the same sequence, without relying on external objects, are not considered strong in combat.
"Yes, werewolves belong to a relatively rare pathway of Sequence 7, and they are very skilled in combat," Mr. Kosith nodded and said.
Leyton really wanted to say, "Are we here to deliver our heads to the werewolves?" but he felt it would be impolite to say that to Mr. Kosith.
"Haha, don't worry. These monsters infected with werewolf venom don't just appear here. Their figures have been seen in several places in the city as well," Mr. Kosith seemed to notice the worry in Leyton's eyes and explained.
"So, the captain had us search different places separately?" Leyton asked curiously.
"That's right. The two places where werewolves are most likely to appear are personally supervised by Miss Sia and the captain. The main task of the rest of us is actually to clean up the monsters infected with the werewolf virus," Mr. Kosith explained.
"Oh," Leyton nodded.
He added in his mind: "That's more like it."
"Was the gunfire I heard last night also related to this matter?" Leyton asked curiously.
"I'm not sure. The Security Bureau hasn't reported this matter to us, and even if they did, it would be reported to the Church of the Earth Mother first," Mr. Kosith shook his head and said.
"Uh, that's true," Leyton nodded and stopped dwelling on the question.
In the midst of Leyton and Mr. Kosith's chat, the carriage soon arrived at the suburban cemetery. As soon as Leyton and Mr. Kosith got out of the carriage, the coachman immediately turned the carriage around and left.
"We're not going to have to walk back ourselves, are we!" Leyton realized that this place was too remote, and it was a cemetery, so no one would come here, let alone a carriage.
"It seems so," Mr. Kosith also looked at the carriage that had turned around and fled as if escaping for its life with a headache.
The cemetery looked very quiet in the morning. This season, there weren't even any birds chirping or insects buzzing. Only the morning sunlight shining on them made it seem less gloomy.
Leyton followed behind Mr. Kosith and walked into the cemetery. Through the Eyes of Mystery Prying' observation of the surrounding secrets, Leyton did indeed find traces of dark magic remaining in this cemetery. These traces were constantly dissipating under the sunlight.
"There are signs of a fight here. One of the parties is a werewolf? Or its subordinate," Mr. Kosith said while observing the surrounding environment.
"But it's strange, who is fighting with that werewolf? It seems that these monsters infected with werewolves scattered everywhere are not just used to divert attention," Mr. Kosith then pondered.
Leyton looked at Mr. Kosith in a daze, did he come to a conclusion after just looking around for a while? Is this the ability of the Knowledge Keepers?
Leyton remembered that there was a sentence in the description of the Knowledge Keepers: "Can use extraordinary means to analyze and restore events that have occurred within a certain area."
