Chapter 135: MSOC: Chapter 135
Bang!
A dull thud echoed. Konan felt herself being thrown, the world spinning. When she regained her senses, she found herself in someone's arms.
Initially startled, Konan's cheeks flushed crimson, and she quickly pulled away from Kai. She'd lived through war but understood the boundaries between men and women. Even with Yahiko and Nagato, she'd never felt this way.
"Aren't you going to thank me?" Kai said playfully. "I saved you."
"Thank you."
Konan was stunned. She'd never seen anyone so brazenly demand thanks. But she found herself saying it.
This seemingly flirtatious exchange felt like a slap in the face to Tsuchigumo and the Taketori leader. Tsuchigumo's plan had been exposed, and the Taketori leader had lost his prey—to a spoiled rich kid they'd previously dismissed. This was humiliating.
"Boy, you've angered me," the Taketori leader roared, his face darkening.
"Attack now!"
His words sent a wave of fear through the crowd. They'd expected a one-sided fight, not this unexpected turn of events.
"Haha, Taketori, I thought you could handle them alone. Didn't expect me to have to step in," a boisterous laugh echoed.
A figure, like a phantom, darted behind Kai and Konan. His weapon, a bee-shaped stinger, dripped with purple venom, emitting a foul odor.
This startled everyone, including Konan, who hadn't expected Haru to attack.
"Konan-sama, be careful!" Kuraki shouted urgently.
Konan's expression tightened. She saw the Taketori leader attacking. Without thinking, she threw several kunai and formed hand seals.
"Paper Technique: Dance of the Shikigami: Spears!" she shouted, sheets of paper forming into spears that shot towards the Taketori leader.
"Little girl, your jutsu is surprising, but you're too naive if you think you can defeat me with that," the Taketori leader sneered, unfazed by the attack. He charged forward, colliding with the attack.
Clang! Clang! Clang!
Sharp metallic clashes echoed, sparks flying. The kunai were knocked away, and the paper Spears were easily deflected.
In a few breaths, the attack was shattered. Konan watched in shock as a hand grabbed her shoulder, throwing her several meters away.
"A burden should stay out of the way," Kai said calmly.
Konan, having regained her footing, looked at Kai. The Taketori leader, mere meters from Kai, was a picture of savage glee, his expression taut with anticipation. Konan saw that Kai was in danger because he'd saved her.
The Taketori leader was surprised, but then he laughed, a cruel glint in his eyes.
"Boy, since you like playing the hero, I'll send you to the afterlife."
He clenched his hand, transforming it into a bone blade. Without any fancy moves, he swung it towards Kai's neck.
But Kai and Kakuzu remained motionless, offering no defense against the combined attack of Haru and the Taketori leader. This unnerved the onlookers. The Taketori leader and Haru grinned, certain of victory. They believed Kai and Kakuzu were merely bluffing.
Clang! Clang!
Two sharp metallic clashes rang out unexpectedly, gripping everyone's hearts. The bone blade stopped inches from Kai's neck, blocked by a purple wave of energy. Haru's venom-coated stinger was similarly stopped at Kakuzu's back.
Everyone gasped.
"You ripped my clothes. How will you compensate?" Kai looked up, his crimson eyes, hidden beneath his cloak, meeting their gazes.
"Th-that's the nine-to... you're... the Blood..." The Taketori leader's eyes widened in disbelief.
Before he could finish, Kai smiled warmly.
"You guessed right. You can't afford to compensate."
"Kill them."
His quiet words were like a hypnotic spell.
"Boss, I've been waiting for that," Kakuzu grinned, his cloak rippling. Black veins shot out, forming a net towards Haru.
Kai moved instantly. With crackling lightning around his right hand, he grabbed the Taketori leader's faceplate and slammed him to the ground.
"Lightning Release: Heavy Flow Burst!"
Boom!
A powerful force erupted. The Taketori leader crashed to the ground like a meteorite. The ground caved in, shattering.
A shockwave ripped outwards, sending debris flying in a sandstorm. Everyone felt the ground tremble. When the dust settled, the plaza was in ruins. Kai and Kakuzu stood unharmed. Kakuzu was several meters away, his Doton-based earth-grubs already impaling Haru. Haru's blood was absorbed by the grubs.
The Taketori leader, whose bone armor was renowned for its defense, had cracks spreading across it like a spiderweb. With a series of shattering sounds, the armor crumbled.
Everyone's eyes widened. Kai hadn't lied. He'd killed the Taketori leader with a single blow.
