"Konan-sama, watch out!" Kuraki deflected two tentacles. Then, the ground below erupted, and a figure, swift as a phantom, lunged towards Konan.

"I won't fail again!" Hidan roared, driven mad by the failure of his curse on Kakuzu. Breaking free from the restraints amidst the barrage of ninjutsu, he used Earth Release, Hiding in the Earth to locate a target—the lone woman in the group.

His crimson, chakra-imbued scythe swung down with deadly speed. Konan, having just dispelled her Paper Release, couldn't reactivate it in time. She could only watch as the scythe loomed. A gust of wind ruffled her hair as she closed her eyes.

Clang!

A sharp metallic sound echoed. Death didn't arrive, causing Konan to open her eyes. She saw Kai before her, and her composure broke.

"Why… why did you save me?"

Konan had expected Kai to be ruthless and cold, not someone who would casually intervene. Especially considering the many fallen Fūma and the struggling Akatsuki members, she felt singled out.

"I dislike burdens, but you're a pretty burden," Kai flicked her forehead. He then unleashed a lightning-imbued strike, shattering Hidan's scythe. The raw power surged towards Hidan, forcing a pained cry as he discarded his weapon and retreated.

Kai's speed far surpassed Hidan's Shunshin. Hidan prioritized distance, then brought the surrounding blood tentacles together, forming a massive, ten-meter-long blood python. Its jaws snapped towards Kai.

"You're in the air. Let's see how you dodge this," Hidan roared maniacally. "I win! You'll be a sacrifice to the god!"

All the tentacles, including those attacking Kakuzu, converged. Kuraki and the others got a brief reprieve.

Seeing the tentacles engulfing Kai and Konan, and Kakuzu standing impassively, Kuraki yelled, "Kakuzu-sama, help them!"

"Shut up. The Boss said even death can't stop him from saving the beauty," Kakuzu retorted coldly.

This left Kuraki and the others dumbfounded.

Boom!

The python struck. Countless tentacles wrapped around Kai, forming a massive blood cocoon. The Jashin Cultists, and even Hidan, smirked. Eliminating Kai first would leave Kakuzu vulnerable.

"Seal him!" the elder roared. The cultists poured their chakra into the tentacles, attempting to subdue Kai.

But Kakuzu's impassivity was striking.

"Is this your strongest technique?"

"Out of respect, I'll respond seriously."

His words hit like a hammer. The cocoon swelled. Crimson eyes, radiating an ominous aura, erupted.

Psh!

Cloth ripped. Crimson light, swift as lightning, slashed through the cocoon.

Everyone's eyes widened. Hidan instinctively blocked, but it was futile.

The sound of cloth tearing was followed by a thud as Hidan's body fell in two. The agonizing pain couldn't mask his disbelief as he stared at the towering Susanoo and the unharmed Kai.

"Im-impossible! This is our trump card! It didn't even hurt him!" The elder paled, dropping his cane. Their full power was no match for Kai's "serious" effort.

"Those are… crimson eyes… the nine-tomoe Sharingan!" Konan stared, then exclaimed, "You're the Blood Asura, Uchiha Kai from Konoha!"

"Uchiha Kai?" Kuraki was stunned, regretting his earlier disrespect. The Blood Asura! The rapidly rising super-Kage-level powerhouse who'd single-handedly repelled the Kumogakure and Kirigakure armies and slaughtered elite forces in the Land of Earth. His name rivaled Minato Namikaze's, but his ruthlessness surpassed even the Yellow Flash.

"Him? I wish I hadn't fought!" The elder, aware of Kai's reputation, fled. The remaining cultists scattered. Their strongest member was dead, their ultimate technique broken. Fleeing was their only option.

The once-ferocious Jashin Cult was instantly deserted. Kuraki and the others stared in disbelief. The cult, moments ago fighting to the death, had fled without a backward glance. Their ruthlessness was terrifying.
