Chapter 42: Muyue Interested in Sealing Jutsu
On Saturday afternoon, Muyue returned to his house in the main city. Since they had shared meals several times, their relationship had become familiar, so Muyue directly called the two over to his house before starting to cook.
"Muyue, what are you planning to make today?" Kushina asked curiously. Several times eating at Muyue's house, Kushina had never eaten the same dish twice. Having many variations wasn't the main point; the key was that Muyue could make all of them delicious, which made Kushina both admire and envy him.
"Mushroom soup and stir-fried mushrooms," Muyue said, pointing to a plastic bag full of mushrooms next to the sink. At noon, Shisui and the others had gathered too many ingredients, including various fish, wild vegetables, and even worked together to hunt a wild boar, so Muyue brought the uneaten ingredients home. Wild mushrooms, among other things, were indeed fresh, but they absolutely had to be cooked thoroughly, otherwise, food poisoning would be a serious problem; diarrhea was minor, but ending up in a coffin wasn't impossible.
"These aren't wild mushrooms picked from the forest, are they?" Kushina looked at the mushrooms, noting their varying types and sizes, feeling they didn't look like they were bought. This reminded her of her first time eating at Muyue's house when she teased Muyue about whether he had added some strangely colored mushrooms that made her see illusions. If there really were such mushrooms, coupled with Muyue's cooking skills, wouldn't eating them be like being under a genjutsu?
Muyue nodded and said, "Today at noon, I had a picnic with some students in the forest. We gathered too many ingredients and couldn't finish them, so I brought the leftovers home."
"Muyue, you even take students on picnics?" Kushina asked with a hint of envy. She had attended the Ninja Academy for six full years and never saw a teacher so kind as to take students on a picnic.
"Those students and I have a good relationship," Muyue explained.
"Muyue, do you need help? I'll wash the vegetables," Minato, unwilling to eat for free, proactively offered to help.
"Then Minato, help me wash the mushrooms. I'll process the wild boar meat first," Muyue didn't stand on ceremony and immediately assigned Minato a task. Being too polite all the time wasn't conducive to growing friendship. Friendship, after all, needed give and take to truly flourish.
Since there were three of them eating, in addition to mushroom soup and stir-fried mushrooms, Muyue also planned to make a dish of braised pork belly. In his previous life, for some reason, he would feel nauseous eating fatty meat, but he could accept the fatty meat in braised pork belly. He even thought that braised pork belly with a good mix of lean and fat was more delicious, and braised pork belly with preserved vegetables was a dish he particularly liked. However, there were no preserved vegetables at hand, so he could only make plain braised pork belly.
"What about me? What should I do?" Seeing Minato and Muyue's backs, Kushina scratched her head, feeling as if they were two brothers cooking together and she was an outsider.
"There isn't any more space here, so just sit down and wait for dinner," Muyue replied. This wasn't a restaurant kitchen; three people operating together would only get in each other's way. Two was just right, and there wasn't much need for more help. So, a bored Kushina sat on a chair in the living room and casually picked up a book placed on the low table.
"Oh," Kushina exclaimed, a bit surprised by the book's cover title. It was a book about sealing jutsu. "'What is Sealing Jutsu,' Muyue, why are you still reading such books? The title alone tells me it's no good, it's not as good as..." Kushina paused, because she had turned the page and saw the words "Written by Uzumaki Ashina".
"Ahem, this book is actually quite good, Muyue, you should read it carefully," Kushina said, clearing her throat and rephrasing her sentence.
"Yes, I've read it several times. Lord Uzumaki Ashina truly lives up to his title as the ancestor of Leaf Village's sealing jutsu. Even someone like me, who knows nothing about sealing jutsu, can gain a lot from reading it," Muyue replied while processing the pork.
"Of course, he's the head of our Uzumaki clan!" Kushina said proudly. "But Muyue, are you still interested in sealing jutsu?" Kushina asked curiously.
"Extremely interested. I feel sealing jutsu is very mysterious and powerful," Muyue said, his expression filled with yearning.
"From the perspective of improving strength, sealing jutsu is indeed a good choice," Minato nodded. The three of them chatted about sealing jutsu until the meal was ready. During most of this time, Muyue listened, occasionally offering some beginner's insights, which made Minato and Kushina feel a greater sense of accomplishment.
Kushina first tried the braised pork belly, a dish she had never eaten before. With one bite, it was extraordinary; the soft, melt-in-your-mouth, yet not greasy, texture immediately made Kushina scoop up a large mouthful of rice. "This is too delicious! Why have I never seen such a delicious dish before?" Kushina instantly fell in love with the taste of the braised pork belly.
"If you want to learn, I can teach you," Muyue said with a smile.
"It's a deal! Tomorrow night, Minato and I will buy the ingredients for you," Kushina quickly nodded. After saying that, Kushina glanced at the plate of stir-fried mushrooms and found that most of it was already gone; Minato had been continuously eating while they were discussing cooking lessons. "I haven't even eaten yet, Minato, leave some for me!" Kushina no longer cared about anything else and quickly started eating as well. Her first bite also successfully amazed Kushina; it was simply too fresh.
After eating their fill, the three of them even went out for a stroll. During their walk, they inevitably chatted; Muyue shared some interesting anecdotes from teaching, and Minato and Kushina also recounted some strange stories from their missions.
...
Two days before the competition, Muyue began Obito's final training. "To make a ninjutsu appear more imposing, besides nature transformation and chakra volume, you can also make it look more majestic through shape transformation," Muyue said.
"But there are only two days left, is it still enough time to train in shape transformation?" Obito scratched his head.
"Of course not," Muyue stated directly; Obito didn't have such strong talent in ninjutsu. "However, you don't need to master shape transformation. You only need to master the Great Fireball Jutsu I modified," Muyue explained. To ensure Obito took first place and maximized the training mission's rewards, Muyue had put a lot of effort into it. He had specifically modified the Great Fireball Jutsu to make it appear larger, but in reality, it didn't contain much more flame, and its power remained unchanged. In short, it was designed to be visually deceptive. Anyway, the Young Ninja Tournament didn't involve actual combat; it was just a competition where each person performed a ninjutsu, and they were judged on points.
"Muyue-sensei, you're practically my Sage of Six Paths!" Obito instantly felt that first place was practically guaranteed after hearing Muyue's words. Facing himself, who had been taught by Muyue-sensei, Kakashi had no chance of winning!
"After all, you said you needed my help for your whole life, so as your teacher, of course, I have to give my all," Muyue said with a chuckle, intentionally cultivating Obito's awareness of seeking help from his teacher.
"Hehe," Obito chuckled sheepishly.
"Hurry up and train," Muyue tapped Obito's head.
"Yes!" Obito immediately began his training. He was already impatient to defeat Kakashi in front of Rin Nohara and take first place.
