Naruto: Starting with Snatching the Mangekyō Sharingan

Chapter 180: Chapter 180: The History of the Past

"Tsunade-sama, you've misunderstood," Akira said with a shake of his head. "It's not me, it's the Akatsuki. If we lose, the ninja world will inevitably fall into ruin at their hands."

"What do you mean?" Tsunade frowned. "I know the Akatsuki are collecting Tailed Beasts, but to claim they could destroy the entire ninja world sounds a bit far-fetched!"

Her skeptical gaze bore into him. "You're not just trying to scare us, are you?"

"Tsunade-sama, have you heard of the Ten-Tails? Or the Ten-Tails Jinchūriki?" Akira asked calmly.

"The Ten-Tails?" Tsunade's brow furrowed deeply. "There are only nine Tailed Beasts. Where does this Ten-Tails nonsense come from?"

Nearby, Nara Shikaku and Yamanaka Inoichi exchanged puzzled glances. Even with their extensive knowledge, they had never heard of such a thing.

Seeing their confusion, Akira chuckled softly. "This story begins with the Moon Goddess, Ōtsutsuki Kaguya. In ancient times, there was a Divine Tree…"

Akira briefly recounted the events of the distant past, explaining the legends to the three.

...

"You're saying the Moon Goddess, Ōtsutsuki Kaguya, was real? That the Divine Tree is actually the Ten-Tails? And that the Sage of Six Paths was her son—the first Ten-Tails Jinchūriki?" Tsunade's expression tightened. She clearly found the story hard to believe.

Shikaku and Inoichi exchanged uncertain looks. Akira's tale sounded like a mix of mythology and fiction, stitched together like a fantastical legend. It was difficult to take at face value.

"If Tsunade-sama doubts my words, why not verify them with someone who was there to witness it?" Akira suggested with a faint smile.

"A witness? Don't be ridiculous. How could there still be—"

Tsunade started angrily, but her voice trailed off as realization dawned. Her expression shifted dramatically. She had an idea of who that "witness" might be.

"I see. I'll confirm it with the Slug Sage of the Shikkotsu Forest!" Without hesitation, Tsunade formed hand seals.

"Summoning Jutsu!"

With a puff of smoke, a slug about 30 centimeters tall appeared on the floor of the Hokage's office.

"Tsunade-sama, Fifth Hokage," the slug greeted softly.

"Greetings, Great Sage," Akira said with a respectful nod.

"Katsuyu, I summoned you to ask about something important!" Tsunade said firmly.

"Of course, Tsunade-sama. Ask away, and I will answer to the best of my ability," Katsuyu replied gently.

"Katsuyu, do you know anything about the Moon Goddess, the Divine Tree, the Ten-Tails, the Ten-Tails Jinchūriki, or the Sage of Six Paths?" Tsunade asked in quick succession.

"These topics… it's a long story," Katsuyu said with a hint of nostalgia. "That history is from a very ancient time—so ancient that even I was not as strong as I am now."

"What?!" Tsunade exclaimed, stunned. "Are you saying those figures actually existed?"

"Tsunade-sama, you didn't know?" Katsuyu looked at her, surprised. "I assumed you were aware of these truths."

Tsunade's face darkened. The legends she had dismissed as myths were, in fact, real history.

This absurd revelation left her feeling unmoored.

Shikaku and Inoichi exchanged wide-eyed looks, both shaken by the implications. If Akira had brought this up, it wasn't a baseless claim. These mythological figures might have direct ties to the current state of the ninja world.

"The Akatsuki…" Both men couldn't help but think of the ominous organization.

"Katsuyu," Tsunade pressed, still unwilling to let go of her skepticism. "Are you certain these stories aren't just fabrications?"

"Tsunade-sama, they are all true," Katsuyu replied gently. "Allow me to explain:

"The Moon Goddess, Ōtsutsuki Kaguya, was an otherworldly being of unknown origin. Her eldest son, Ōtsutsuki Hagoromo, known as the Sage of Six Paths, was the ancestor of the Uchiha, Senju, and Uzumaki clans. Her younger son, Ōtsutsuki Hamura, was the progenitor of the Hyūga and Ōtsutsuki clans.

"The Divine Tree predates even Kaguya herself. Its origins are a mystery, but it is deeply intertwined with the Ten-Tails and Kaguya, forming a trinity of existence.

"In the beginning, Kaguya wielded unmatched power, bringing peace to the world. But whether it was her overwhelming strength that corrupted her or her true nature revealed, she eventually became a demon. Her sons, Hagoromo and Hamura, turned against her and, together, sealed her away."

Hearing this, Tsunade muttered to herself, "A fantastical myth… but it actually happened?"

"For you, Tsunade-sama, it may seem like a fable," Katsuyu said, "but for me, it is history."

"In that distant era, the Sage of Six Paths and his brother waged a cataclysmic battle against Kaguya and the Ten-Tails. The entire ninja world was nearly destroyed. That unimaginable war raged for three months." Katsuyu's tone grew somber as it recounted the past.

Tsunade, Shikaku, and Inoichi were dumbfounded. A three-month-long battle? It defied belief.

The legendary duel between Hashirama Senju and Madara Uchiha had lasted three days at most. A fight spanning three months was incomprehensible.

"That kind of power…" Tsunade hesitated. "Not even my grandfather could compare, could he?"

"Tsunade-sama," Katsuyu said without hesitation, "while the First Hokage was indeed powerful, he was far from the level of those ancient figures."

"Then, Katsuyu, as a sage who has lived since those ancient times—if the Ten-Tails were to reappear, would you fight it?" Tsunade asked.

"Tsunade-sama, you know my strengths lie in healing, not combat," Katsuyu replied gently. "But if the situation demands it, I will resist."

Though Katsuyu's words offered some reassurance, they left much unsaid.

After receiving Katsuyu's response, Tsunade felt a glimmer of relief.

As her summoning partner, she knew how formidable Katsuyu truly was. In her eyes, Katsuyu's power rivaled even her grandfather's.
