Chapter 176: Chapter 176: What?! Kakashi Actually...
Otogakure
Inside the records room.
Orochimaru stared at the towering stack of books on the desk, his head pounding.
He had given up searching for Uchiha Tajima and instead focused his efforts on locating Uchiha Izuna's burial site.
But even so...
"Finding the remains of someone who died seventy or eighty years ago? Impossible!"
"Obito, that bastard!" Orochimaru spat, a rare break from his once-elegant demeanor.
The old Orochimaru would never stoop to cursing.
But ever since joining forces with Obito...
...he regretted knowing so few profanities!
Slamming the book in his hand onto the desk, Orochimaru rubbed his temples and sighed heavily.
"These books only have scraps of information. There's nothing useful here. Looks like I'll have to head back to Konohagakure..."
"If I can narrow down the general areas of those old battlefields and revive a few Uchiha from that era…"
"Maybe I can trace the clues back to Uchiha Izuna's remains."
[A/N: The decomposition of bones depends on factors like temperature, humidity, and microbial activity. Some skeletons survive even a century. Considering Izuna was Madara's brother, his remains might be in better condition than ordinary people's and wouldn't have been buried carelessly. If the direction is right, finding Izuna's bones is plausible—don't say the author's just making things up.]
▄██● Bowing to you all!
Orz, bowing again!
...
Konohagakure
A striking young man appeared suddenly at a café on the corner of the street.
This wasn't just anyone—it was none other than Obito, roaming the world aimlessly now that things were stable.
With the organization on the right track and Madara getting lost in his books (pun intended), Obito finally had time to relax in Konoha and spend time with Rin.
"Now this is the life I've been dreaming of..." Obito mused as he glanced at the sky. It was still early, and Rin wouldn't be off work yet.
So, he decided to swing by Kakashi's place for a visit.
"Humming tunes and waiting for fate, and here I wait for you~" Obito sang as he strolled toward Kakashi's house.
Ten minutes later
Standing at Kakashi's front door, Obito knocked.
"Coming!"
The door opened, revealing Sakumo, who smiled warmly at the sight of Obito.
"Oh, it's you, Obito! Come on in."
Obito grinned. "Long time no see, Uncle Sakumo—oh, wait, I mean Uncle Ginshi now, right?"
Ginshi Hatake, Kakashi's distant relative, had just returned to Konoha, serving as Sakumo's public identity for now.
Sakumo invited Obito to sit in the living room. "Obito, take a seat. I'll whip up some food. Stay for dinner tonight. Kakashi has something to discuss with you when he gets back."
"Huh?" Obito blinked. "Something to discuss? Do you know what it's about?"
Sakumo chuckled mysteriously. "Better wait for Kakashi to tell you himself."
And with that, he vanished into the kitchen.
Obito was bursting with curiosity.
"What could it be?!"
Waiting felt like an eternity.
Finally, Kakashi returned.
"Oh? Obito, what are you doing here?" Kakashi asked, surprised.
Obito shot up and grabbed his friend's hand. "Kakashi! Uncle Sakumo said you had something to talk to me about. What is it?!"
"Uh… yeah, I do."
"Then spill it! Don't keep me in suspense!"
Kakashi sighed, pulling his hand away.
"You're so impatient. Let's eat first. We'll talk after."
But Obito wasn't having it. "No way! Tell me now!"
Kakashi relented with a shrug. "Fine. It's not a big deal. I'm getting married and want you to be my best man."
Obito froze, his brain short-circuiting.
"Wait. What?! MARRIED?! You?!"
Kakashi nodded calmly, taking a seat at the table. "Early next year."
"But—but she's so young! And this is so sudden! I'm not ready for this!" Obito stammered.
Sakumo walked in with dishes, laughing. "She's not a little girl anymore. She's been living on her own for years. And now, spending every day with Kakashi…"
"Dad!" Kakashi cut him off, his face red.
Obito smirked, poking Kakashi playfully. "Aww, look at you blushing, Kakashi!"
Kakashi swatted Obito's hand away. "Quit it!"
Sakumo's laughter echoed in the room. "In any case, it's settled. She's joining the family. It'll be lively with her around."
Obito slung an arm around Kakashi's shoulder, grinning.
"Congrats, Kakashi. You deserve this happiness."
Kakashi smirked. "Thanks. Honestly, I owe you. If you hadn't put in a good word for me, I might still be single."
Obito burst into laughter. "See? You owe me big time!"
"Alright, alright, enough. Let's eat before the food gets cold," Sakumo urged, ruffling their hair like kids.
As they ate, Kakashi turned to Obito. "By the way, let Rin know. I want her as the maid of honor."
Obito nodded confidently. "No problem. Consider it done!"
