"Just like that... we cleared the gym!?"
Red stared at the Marsh badge and move learning device that had suddenly appeared in his backpack, his brain momentarily stunned.
The Saffron Gym was known for its power—even ordinary gym trainers possessed Pokémon above level 40, while the gym owner Sabrina commanded four Pokémon above level 45. Yet they had cleared it with surprising ease, thanks to Robin's Dark + Psychic attributes that completely nullified Psychic attacks and dealt double damage to Psychic types.
If they hadn't needed to solve the teleportation mechanism puzzle to find the gym owner, which had consumed considerable time, they might have completed the entire gym challenge in less than an hour.
"It feels like a dream," Red murmured as he stored away the badge and the meditation move learning device.
In that instant, mysterious energy surged into Red's brain, causing him to freeze in place as his vision blurred.
This strange occurrence immediately alarmed Robin, who had been reveling in her post-upgrade power increase.
"Mr. Deputy Captain, are you all right?!" she called out anxiously.
Red remained motionless, seemingly deaf to her voice. Just as the panicked Robin moved to check on him, a mysterious yet somehow familiar energy aura erupted from his body.
"What is this?!" Robin exclaimed, her eyes widening as she watched Red's form continuously emit purple and pink light. Though shocked, she sensed no immediate danger.
After a moment, the energy slowly receded, flowing back into Red's body. When he opened his eyes again, a layer of mysterious energy fluctuations shimmered before his pupils.
"I didn't expect... the badge reward would be psychic!?" Red exclaimed in amazement.
Noticing Robin's worried expression, he quickly smiled reassuringly. "I'm fine, Robin. Thank you for your concern."
"Mr. Vice Captain, you just displayed... the same power as me?" Robin looked at him with puzzlement in her eyes.
Red smiled slightly. "I just awakened it by accident!"
As he spoke, he raised his arm. Instead of using electromagnetic floating, he enveloped his body with a special power composed of psychic Pokémon energy and mental force. Instantly, his body rose into the air, his hair billowing as his eyes glowed with a strange, mysterious light.
It mirrored exactly how gym owner Sabrina had appeared earlier!
Witnessing this, the surprise in Robin's eyes intensified. After all, as a psychic Pokémon, even she hadn't yet mastered Red's telekinetic floating ability.
"It's remarkable! When around you, Mr. Vice Captain, it seems I must grow accustomed to surprise as a daily emotion," Robin chuckled with a sigh.
"Hahaha~" Red turned and laughed. "Believe me, you'll get used to it soon!"
...
...
In the operating car, amid the snoring of Mr. 2 and Mr. 4, the agents who had been awake in shock all night finally succumbed to sleep one after another.
At this point, they were caught between offending Ace and Red or offending the Shichibukai Crocodile... they had no escape.
Moreover, Red had at least demonstrated godlike abilities and granted them new powers... This helpless multiple-choice dilemma already had its answer.
Under the night sky, Red and Robin suddenly opened their eyes simultaneously.
A glimmer of pink light flashed in both their gazes.
Sitting opposite each other, they raised their heads, exchanged smiles, then closed their eyes again.
In an instant, very slight energy fluctuations emerged around Robin's body, absorbing mysterious energy from some unknown dimension and integrating it into herself.
This was precisely the newest move Red had just matched for her—Calm Mind.
As a special technique that could be strengthened through practice and provided combat buff amplification, Calm mind's effect closely resembled the original force. The key difference was that meditation increased mental force specifically, while the original force provided Red with all-around enhancement.
Regardless, with the Calm Mind move TM, Red was no longer the only one staying awake through the night aboard the Going Merry!
Seeing Robin enter her meditative state, Red smiled with satisfaction and began organizing his newfound abilities.
First came the achievement reward from the Marsh badge. Beyond the basic physical improvements, the additional benefit this badge brought to Red was the awakening of his Psychic.
Perhaps due to the gift of the machine, Red's Psychic possessed extraordinary potential! Though he couldn't perform whatever feats Sabrina demonstrated in the anime—like arbitrarily enlarging or shrinking people, or transforming them into dolls—his newly manifested Psychic allowed him to successfully achieve telekinesis, flight, teleportation, hypnosis, and other abilities!
It seemed he had awakened only psychic power, yet its effects were as if he'd instantly learned several Pokémon moves!
Of course, compared to Psychic Pokémon who had mastered these techniques, Red needed to consume more mental energy to achieve the same results. For instance, when using psychic power to fly, not only would his speed be relatively slow, but his endurance would also prove far less efficient than electromagnetic floating.
In short, psychic power couldn't serve as Red's primary combat method at present. But judging from its current manifestation, it was definitely a special ability with limitless potential!
"Finally, I'm human again!" Red almost wept with joy in his heart.
Compared to his previous hard skin, self-recovery, burst speed, enhanced endurance, and other attributes, the emergence of psychic power made Red's attack methods far more flexible and versatile.
More importantly, because Red could freely control the form of his psychic power, he could even transform it into a force capable of directly striking an opponent's spirit and soul!
This meant that even against a Logia Devil Fruit user, Red, who didn't possess Armament Haki, now had a means to harm his opponent!
"It's like it was made just for you, Crocodile!" The thought brought a sly smile to Red's face.
He immediately refocused his attention on the machine's screen. At the center of the display, a large turntable filled with psychic moves waited silently for Red's selection.
"Please, give me an attack move!" As Red mentally spun the lottery disc, he closed his eyes and prayed fervently.
With psychic power, plus a psychic move that could be enhanced by that same power, Red might finally shed his role as the Straw Hat Pirates' support man and evolve into a true fighter!
After all, who wouldn't want to become an unparalleled warrior capable of splitting mountains and seas with a single strike?
Perhaps Red had accumulated good karma recently, or maybe the machine had sensed his innermost desires. When Red returned his attention to the screen, a shocking notification message caught his eye:
[Congratulations, you have obtained the Psychic-type move - Hyperspace Hole!]
"Hyperspace Hole!? Isn't that the exclusive move of the mythical Pokémon Hoopa!?" In the car, Red suddenly raised his head, surprise evident on his face.
This marked the first time he had drawn the exclusive skill of a legendary beast, and a powerful Psychic attribute at that!
With a flicker of thought, Red immediately checked the introduction to this new move.
[Move: Hyperspace Hole]
[Attribute: Psychic]
[Category: Special]
[Power: -]
[Introduction: By consuming energy to build two spatial anchor points in different spaces, and summoning a Hyperspace Hole to twist and connect the two anchor points.]
The move's description was brief, almost confusingly so. However, Red, having recently watched the Pokémon movie featuring Hoopa, remembered this move quite vividly.
The technique closely resembled Doctor Strange's space magic. It could directly slice through an enemy's body as a spatial cut, instantly splitting them in two. Simultaneously, it could establish a dimensional hole beside an enemy and, similar to Blackbeard's Yami Yami no Mi abilities, use objects from other spaces as weapons to launch surprise attacks.
The most impressive scene featuring this move, in Red's opinion, was when Hoopa Confined and Hoopa Unbound jointly opened Hyperspace holes, summoning mythical beasts from across the world to battle!
Compared to that, a mere Spacial Rend seemed utterly insignificant!
"As long as I leave a mental mark on the opponent, I can summon them at any time within a certain range!?"
"This move is incredibly useful!!!"
Red, having fully learned Hyperspace Hole, sat in the luxurious car feeling secretly amazed. He quietly placed his mental mark on all the agents and Robin.
In the next second, under Robin's suddenly opening eyes, Red's figure was enveloped by a dark purple ring and vanished from the carriage.
"Huh!?" Robin gasped in surprise.
But almost immediately, a mysterious shimmer appeared on her body—the spiritual mark Red had just placed on her.
A heartbeat later, a spatial ring materialized in front of Robin out of thin air. Through it tumbled Red, soaking wet like a drowned rat, landing on the seat as seawater splashed across the carriage floor.
The sudden commotion instantly awakened the sleeping agents. They lifted their heads vigilantly, only to see Red completely drenched, as if he'd just taken a bath, exuding the unmistakable smell of seawater.
Despite his embarrassing condition, the confident yet surprised smile on his face prevented anyone present from showing the slightest contempt.
None of them knew that just moments ago, to test the range of Hyperspace Hole, Red had activated the technique at maximum power.
And then...
He had fallen directly into the sea!!!
