Chapter 209: Chapter 209
"It's him," Luffy whispered, almost unable to believe it himself. "Kaido. Kaido the Beast is really here!"
The words echoed as he quickly informed the other. He couldn't help but feel a strange admiration for the powerful pirate. Despite knowing the Marines had assembled their top fighters, Kaido had still come, undeterred and entirely alone.
Kaido, you're as daring as ever, Luffy thought with respect.
Not only was Kaido fierce and skilled, but his loyalty to his allies was also unbreakable. Kaido had come all this way to avenge his fallen comrade, Jack, undaunted by the danger.
Little did Luffy know, Kaido wasn't so much driven by loyalty as he was by drunken rage. Fueled by sake and a cloudy mind, Kaido had charged forward recklessly, leaving strategy behind in his desire for battle.
Garp's face darkened as Luffy revealed Kaido's arrival. "This guy really came," he muttered. "Seems like our hopes to avoid a major conflict are out the window." He glanced around thoughtfully, quickly assessing the situation. "I don't know if Sengoku has any backup plans, but reporting this is our priority."
Garp turned to Ain and the others, his gaze intense and commanding. "Leave this to us," he ordered. "Get to safety and spread the word. Bogart, Kibin, and the others will lead everyone to hide in the underground chambers. Do not, under any circumstances, come near the battlefield until we've settled this."
"Vice Admiral Garp…" Ain's voice faltered, hesitant to abandon her comrades. But before she could protest, Hina stepped up and gently pulled Ain back, nodding in agreement with Garp's command.
With Garp's permission, the powerful Hancock stayed behind, her eyes determined as she stood beside Luffy. She would face Kaido with them, no questions asked. Garp offered no objections; he knew she was resolute in her decision.
As Ain and the others left, they cast one last glance back at Luffy and Hancock standing side by side, feeling both pride and worry. Once out of sight, Ain clenched her fists, frustration burning in her eyes.
"I'm still not strong enough," she declared, anger in her voice. "I don't even have the right to stand beside Luffy and fight with him." Her voice softened, turning into a vow. "From now on, I'll train harder. I refuse to be left behind."
Her words echoed in the hearts of Hina, Kujaku, Kalifa, and the others. They shared her sentiment, each silently promising to redouble their training once they returned. They would catch up and fight alongside their comrades, no matter how tough the journey.
Meanwhile, high above in the sky, Kaido soared, his massive dragon form twisting and turning through the clouds. His blue scales glinted, though his face was flushed a deep red—a clear sign of intoxication. His mouth hung open, tongue lolling as he flew erratically, occasionally letting out a deep, rumbling belch that reeked of alcohol.
"Hiccup! Marines! Where are you hiding? I'm here to avenge Jack!" Kaido shouted, his voice slurred but fierce, as he peered down with bleary eyes.
It had been over three hours since Kaido had left Dressrosa, and his drunken state had only worsened. The effects of the alcohol had grown stronger, fogging his memory and overriding the plan he'd originally set out with.
Initially, he'd aimed to act cautiously, gather intelligence, and then strike. But all thoughts of strategy had been abandoned in his drunken haze. Now, he had a single focus: find the Marines, find Luffy, and unleash his rage.
Squinting through his hazy vision, Kaido spotted a familiar symbol in the distance—the emblem of a seagull adorning the central fortress of the G2 Marine branch. A drunken grin spread across his face as he let out a delighted burp, then dove downwards.
"MARINES! I'M COMING!" His roar reverberated through the sky, echoing across the island, sending chills through the hearts of the Marines who had hidden in the basement.
Even the boldest among them felt a shiver at the sound, and some of the more timid ones, like Nami, instinctively jumped closer to their comrades for reassurance.
Though they knew a confrontation was inevitable, the Marines were not afraid. Here, they had gathered some of the strongest fighters, including two Admirals, a powerful Warlord of the Sea, and Luffy—a major figure whose strength was rivaled only by his reputation.
Above all, they had Garp, the Iron Fist, the Marine who once cornered the Pirate King himself. His presence was like an unbreakable wall, giving courage to the soldiers as they prepared for battle.
On the northern shore, Garp stepped forward, casting off his cloak of justice. His gaze was fierce, an iron resolve burning in his eyes as he called out to the descending Kaido.
"You really have the guts to come here, Kaido!"
