Chapter 4: Chapter 4 A Glimpse of Humanity
Cassius quickly assumed a noble posture, anxious not to draw attention to the fact that something was wrong.
"Ratatos, look, how about giving these three slaves to me?" That was all Cassius could think to say at that moment.
In Ratatos' eyes, the pleading tone quickly shifted into one of amusement.
He laughed and swung his whip again. "Bardros, what's gotten into you today? You don't usually joke around. Did lightning strike your brain? Hahaha!"
How could this infuriating brat be called a child? He's nothing more than a little devil!
Seeing the fear in the eyes of Bao's three sisters and watching their bodies twist in distress, Cassius realized that the problem didn't lie with any one individual, it was the Celestial Dragons as a whole. From the very beginning, from their very children, it was all about an endless thirst for power. They had no humanity left at all!
Cassius stared into Ratatos' mocking smile, and the anger burning in his chest could no longer be contained.
"Stop!" Cassius shouted, his voice filled with fury.
In an instant, a powerful aura erupted from Cassius's body. Ratatos foamed at the mouth and passed out, unable to process what was happening.
The guard Paul beside him still had enough strength to withstand the crushing force of the aura.
"Saint Bardros... is so domineering!? He's truly worthy of being a Celestial Dragon! But why..." Paul half-knelt on the ground, struggling to recover. He hadn't fully resisted the pressure from earlier, and the fear still lingered, constantly overwhelming him.
Cassius stood silent for a moment, still processing what had just happened. After a brief pause, he regained his composure, quietly unlocked the shackles of the three Bao sisters, and led them away.
After a while, Ratatos slowly regained consciousness, but as soon as he did, he realized he had wet himself. Though he knew Bardros had taken the slaves and left, he dared not speak a word. There was an unwritten rule among the Celestial Dragons: whoever possessed Conqueror's Haki could become the true wielder of power within their ranks.
A born king, the ruler among the Celestial Dragons.
Currently, only a few Celestial Dragons are known to possess Conqueror's Haki, with the Five Elders being regarded as the most powerful among them.
In the long corridor of the palace, Cassius walked ahead, unaccompanied by bodyguards. The handcuffs of the three Bao sisters had been removed, but none of them dared to resist. They could only wonder why the Celestial Dragon in front of them had chosen to free them.
The three women were Devil Fruit users, their powers dangerous if unleashed. To prevent any rebellion, Saint Ratatos had them shackled with seastone cuffs. The cuffs were removed briefly during the performance, but the women knew there were guards waiting. If they tried to resist, they would be killed.
However, the Celestial Dragon in front of them seemed far more powerful than their previous master. Could it be that he allowed them this small freedom because he was confident in his own strength?
In fact, Cassius was already seething with anger.
He had only heard about the evil of the Celestial Dragons before, and it was rarely shown in the manga. He had only seen their ugliness from a distance.
But now, seeing them in person and viewing them from a similar perspective, he understood what the world's so-called nobles were truly like.
After walking out of the Celestial Dragons' entertainment area, Cassius simply moved forward, not paying attention to where he was going.
Finally, when he looked up, he realized he had ended up in the servants' living area.
Although these servants were also slaves, they were different from those used solely for pleasure. They were responsible for cleaning the floors and washing the windows. While their tasks were ordinary, most Celestial Dragons viewed them with disdain, which made their situation only a little better than ordinary slaves.
These servants and slaves were not allowed to show any signs of dissatisfaction. Whether they were beaten or scolded daily, they were expected to accept it with a smile. Even if they cried, they had to do so while wearing a smile on their face.
As Cassius walked in, most of the servants were resting. The moment they saw him, they all stood up immediately, and their faces, which had previously shown signs of pain and numbness, quickly transformed into forced, gloomy smiles.
A sickening feeling stirred in Cassius's chest. Celestial Dragons. Damn Celestial Dragons!
Cassius, who had once felt proud of the noble status he had gained, now instantly loathed it.
These servants wore masks of forced smiles, unable to be liberated or understood. In this Holy Land, they were not seen as people, but merely tools for labor.
Cassius turned to leave quickly, but then a name suddenly flashed in his mind.
Cassius turned around and asked, "Is Koala here?"
Hearing the name of a slave come from the mouth of the Celestial Dragon, the servants immediately panicked. Moments later, a little girl with fluffy hair stepped forward, wearing a silly smile. She bowed slightly and said, "My lord, my name is Koala."
Almost everyone looked at Cassius with panic, but despite their fear, they still forced a smile, lifting the corners of their mouths in an attempt to appear obedient.
Few Celestial Dragons bothered to remember a slave's name, and when they did, it usually meant one thing - endless torture.
Cassius didn't have the memories of the previous Bardros, so he didn't understand the significance. He looked at Koala and simply said, "Follow me."
Cassius turned and began walking, with Koala silently following behind him. The three Bao sisters watched in silence, unsure of what was happening. No one knew what Cassius planned to do next.
To be honest, even Cassius himself wasn't entirely sure of his own intentions. He simply remembered the characters from the manga and decided to save them along the way.
But what about those without names he remembered?
Those people whom Cassius didn't know were still suffering.
Cassius knew he was not a saint, but he didn't want so many people to suffer in front of him, nor did he want the people he knew to endure such pain.
Cassius took the four girls back to his room. Although his guard noticed the three Bao sisters and Koala, he didn't say anything.
"You can go. I don't need a guard for now."
The guard assumed Cassius was going to do something like that, so he wisely left.
Cassius still couldn't relax when he returned to his room. After all, this was Bardros's room, and it would take some time for Cassius to fully adapt.
Cassius went to the bathroom, washed his face, and prepared to think about his future.
When he returned to the bedroom, he found that the three Bao sisters and Koala were still standing there.
"Sit down." Bardros's room was enormous, spanning over 400 square meters just for the bedroom, and the entire villa was estimated to be more than 5,000 square meters. This was the Holy Land, and the living conditions of the Celestial Dragons were truly exceptional.
There were several sofas in the bedroom, but strangely, the three Bao sisters and Koala all kneeled on the floor in unison, lowering their heads and waiting for his command.
Cassius felt the weight of servility deeply and spoke seriously: "Perhaps you've already felt that you've lost your rights as human beings, but I'm not like that. I won't treat you as toys or tools. I will treat you as humans! Now, go and sit on the sofa, sit on the chairs, that's where humans should sit!"
There was no doubt that Cassius's tone was serious, and as the four girls sat on the sofa, they tightly shut their eyes, bracing themselves for the whips or bullets they feared might come.
But nothing happened. They all looked at Cassius, whose gaze was gentle.
At that moment, four pairs of tired eyes relaxed.
