Chapter 4: Dead or Alive.
Sharks was taking a nap on his ship went suddenly a bounty poster landed on his face.
"What the hell?" Sharks said in groggy annoyance as he peeled the poster off of his face, his eyes widened at the contents.
[WANTED
DEAD OR ALIVE
SHARKS
$2,500,000]
The photo they used for Sharks was when he was staring at the moon from the hole Jester put in the roof. He wondered on how they got that photo but was more worried about the chance his Master gets one of these posters. He promised his Master he wouldn't get into any trouble and would kill the 12 legends silently. He could only shudder in fear at the punishment lessons and lectures awaiting for him at home.
"Master is the least reasonable person to ever walk this planet. I doubt my very legit story will help my case, it might even make it worse..." Sharks said dejectedly. He then began his daily routine, working out, training, meditating, and fiddling with Elend.
He learned that the haki stored within Elend wasn't specific to any type. It was haki in it's neutral state and it amplified whatever haki type Sharks decided to use. He saw up to ten seconds in the future using stored Elend haki alone but then lost his vision for thirty minutes. Elend can amplify Sharks' chosen haki but that doesn't mean his body can handle said amplification. Which made Sharks think of another way of utilizing Elend, in small portions. He learned that if he used a small percentage of stored Elend haki on top of his own, it had less of a drawback.
As he was eating his lunch on the crows nest, he noticed a Marine warship in the distance. He clicked his tongue, if he saw them that means they saw him as well and he was technically an official pirate now. Sharks hoped that they would leave him alone but then cannon balls began hitting the water around him.
"Can I eat my lunch in peace?" Sharks said annoyed as he jumped down onto the deck. He cut any cannon balls that go to close to his ship and simply waited for the Marines to arrive. As they got closer, the commanding officer began to yell.
"MY NAME IS CAPTAIN HIGURUMA, HALT IN THE NAME OF JUSTICE!" Captain Higuruma yelled as he pumped his fists in the air. Sharks wanted to laugh at the man but kept his composure.
"SORRY SIR, I DON'T THINK I CAN STOP THIS BOAT! TRY TO CATCH ME AGAIN NEXT WEEK OKAY?" Sharks yelled and laughed. He laughed so hard he was holding his stomach.
"HOW DARE YOU LAUGH IN THE FACE OF JUSTICE!" Captain Higuruma yelled angrily. Higuruma jumped from his warship and landed on Sharks' ship. Sharks stopped laughing and placed his hand on his saber.
"I'm not one to kill Marines but trust me, I can." Sharks warned Higuruma. Captain Higuruma grinned widely, "I fear no pirate! Because justice always prevails!"
Higuruma applied haki on both of his muscular arms, making Sharks smirk.
'Ample opportunity to test Elend's haki absorption.' Sharks thought as Higuruma charged him. He went for a punch to the face but his fist was caught by Sharks.
"Absorb." Sharks said and his voice was layered with someone else's. Sharks' arm began to glow red as Higuruma's haki was absorbed.
"AAAHHHHHH!!" Higuruma yelled in agony as he felt his haki get forcibly pulled out of what felt like his soul. Once Sharks was finally done, Higuruma was left dried as a prune.
"W-W-What did you d-do to me?" Higuruma asked with a raspy voice. Sharks was shocked at the potent effect of his absorption. He ended Higuruma's misery by decapitating him and he threw his head back on his ship.
"TAKE THAT AS A WARNING! GO NOW BEFORE I DECIMATE YOUR ENTIRE CREW!" Sharks yelled at the fearful Marines. They quickly backed away and sailed in a different direction. Sharks then facepalmed himself.
"Ugh, that's going to give me a bounty increase and more Marines on my ass...although my warning was pretty cool..." Sharks snickered and threw Higuruma's body overboard. He climbed back up to the crows nest and decided to take a midday nap. But not even two hours into his nap, he felt his ship collide with something.
"This better not be more Marines..." Sharks said angrily as he looked at what he hit. It was a small boat and inside that boat was a girl around his age wearing rags and broken shackles. She had light pink hair and magenta colored eyes. Sharks knew she was probably an escaped slave, he jumped down and landed on her boat.
"P-Please help me!" She exclaimed and Sharks nodded his head. He picked her up and jumped onto his ship before setting her down.
"T-Thank you!" She said with tears streaming down her face. She held onto Sharks as she cried and let go after a few minutes. They stared at each other awkwardly for a second before Sharks introduced himself.
"Hi, uh, my name is Sharks and this is my ship." Sharks said with a wave and a nervous chuckle. The girl giggled and introduced herself as well.
"My name is Celestia Starke, a runaway slave." Celestia said with a curt bow. She looked up at the jolly roger and questioned Sharks.
"Are you a pirate of some sorts?"
Sharks laughed, "Sorta? I'm the sole member of the Demon Eater crew, and I do have a bounty, so do with that what you will."
Celestia stared at Sharks for a while before she grinned, "I trust that you aren't a bad pirate. You answered my plea for help without hesitation, something an ill intentioned pirate wouldn't do, so again, thank you."
"You speak kinda proper for what I assume is a twelve year old..." Sharks pointed out. Celestia laughed, "I should've mentioned I was a former princess, although my country doesn't exactly exist anymore..." Celestia said that last part sadly.
"May I ask what happened?"
Celestia sighed, "Around five years ago, my father King Himmel, decided he would no longer stand with the tyranny and oppression the World Government represented and unallied himself with them. A few months after that decision, Marines raided our country under the premise of us researching forbidden history. My father tried to fight back and they..." Celestia began to tear up, "called a Buster Call on my country. They annihilated all of my people, including my father. I only made it out alive because he sent me away secretly a few hours prior. Then I was caught by the Marines and instead of sending me to prison, they sold me to the highest bidder...I escaped my owner around a week ago."
"I-I'm so sorry that happened to you..." Sharks said genuinely. Sharks' Master always informed him of how evil the World Government truly was and Sharks listened but didn't take it to heart. Now that he's heard a first hand account of their evils, the indifference he had towards the World Government turned into slight hatred.
Celestia wiped her tears and waved her hand in dismissal, "It's alright. All I can do now is grow stronger so that I can enact my revenge..."
"On the World Government?" Sharks asked and Celestia nodded with a fierce look of determination in her eyes. Sharks recognized that look of determination, it was the same look his Master got whenever he spoke about his dream.
'What is my dream?' Sharks thought to himself. Before he met his Master, Sharks never had time to think about dreams or the future. Even after meeting his Master, a dream was never on the forefront of his mind. He began to think on what his dream could be and memories of countless fights with monsters and his Master crossed his mind. Despite the hardships he faced during each battle, there was one thing he always enjoyed, the strength and knowledge he gained.
'My dream...is to become the strongest!'
