Chapter 36: Enma, and the Water Release Rasengan
Swish! Swish! Swish!
Genichi's figure flickered along the riverbank as he advanced.
Suddenly, he stopped. Not far ahead lay a corpse. It was an enemy's.
Bypassing the body, he continued forward. A short distance later, he saw a chaotic battlefield, marked with traces of fire jutsu and two more corpses. Genichi didn't know how these three dead enemies compared to the Ice Release ninja he had faced, but to be able to take down three out of seven attackers, Sarutobi Shinnosuke's strength was clearly immense. And right now, Shinnosuke was only twelve or thirteen years old. A chunin-level ninja, but he probably already possessed the strength of a jonin.
...
Behind a large rock, Shinnosuke was panting heavily.
There were still four enemies left. He was almost at his limit. If he retreated any further, he'd be at the mining area.
"Genichi's side must have been held up by a strong enemy, and Sakumo-senpai as well," Shinnosuke thought to himself. "It seems I have no choice but to retreat to the mine and execute the second plan."
Just then, two Mist Ninja shot out from his left and right, throwing shuriken simultaneously.
Swoosh! Shinnosuke vanished from his spot, dodging the shuriken.
Clang! Clang! Clang!
Shinnosuke wielded a kunai in each hand, blocking the two Mist Ninjas' frenzied attacks. After a dozen exchanges, he let out a grunt and was kicked away, his body tumbling across the surface of the river.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
The surface of the river exploded. Shinnosuke shot into the air, his movements swift and agile, barely avoiding the Mist Ninjas' attacks and landing on the shore. He pressed both hands to the ground.
Earth Release: Earth-Style Wall!
A wall of earth rose up, and with a roar, two streams of water slammed into it. Shinnosuke didn't stop, quickly retreating backward. The four Mist Ninja pursued him, advancing in a crisscross pattern and launching a continuous assault, pushing him step by step towards the mine.
It wasn't that they hadn't considered leaving some men to delay him while the others bypassed him to destroy the mine. But Shinnosuke's strength made them wary of doing so. They had underestimated him before and suffered heavy losses as a result. Now, no matter what, they had to finish off the already-weakened Shinnosuke first.
...
Boom!
Fire Release met Water Release, and steam filled the air. Shinnosuke gritted his teeth and used the opportunity to retreat again. But it wasn't long before he was blocked again, this time surrounded from the front and back.
"My chakra is running low..." Shinnosuke gasped, then put his finger in his mouth.
Crack! He bit his thumb.
Summoning Jutsu!
The four Mist Ninja charged at him in unison.
Poof!
A huge cloud of smoke erupted. The Mist Ninjas' swords slashed into the smoke, producing the sound of clashing metal.
"What?!" the ninja exclaimed, their expressions changing.
The next moment, the smoke cleared, and a tall ape appeared before them. At that moment, the ape was using both its arms to block two swords, while the other two swords struck its body directly. Even so, they didn't even break the skin.
On the shoulder of the great ape, Monkey King Enma, Shinnosuke was exhausted. "Enma, I'm leaving it to you!"
"Understood!" Enma spread its arms, and the two Mist Ninja were thrown back. The other two also immediately leaped back, but Enma instantly pursued one of them. With a pow, a single punch sent the man flying, silenced forever.
Enma was about to chase the other Mist Ninja who was slower to retreat, but shuriken came flying. The incredibly durable Enma naturally wasn't afraid, but the shuriken were aimed straight at Shinnosuke on its shoulder. Enma had no choice but to give up the chase and dodge.
And just at that moment, Genichi arrived. He formed hand seals without hesitation.
Genjutsu: Bringer-of-Darkness Technique!
Instantly, the vision of the three remaining Mist Ninja was stolen.
"Watch out, there's someone else!"
"It's a genjutsu!" the three Mist Ninja shouted.
Shinnosuke was overjoyed. "It's Genichi!" He quickly raised his hand and threw a shuriken. Although it didn't have much power, it served to distract the three Mist Ninja. The sound of it cutting through the air forced them to abandon their hand seals and instead parry the shuriken with their ninja blades.
After completing the Bringer-of-Darkness Technique, Genichi continued to form seals.
Water Release: Water Shockwave!
Water vapor condensed, droplets gathered into a current, and the current rapidly spiraled upwards, then swept towards the three Mist Ninja like a flood.
The three Mist Ninja heard the sound and, despite being unable to see, leaped into the air based on their visual memory from before their sight was taken. All three of them avoided the sweeping current of water.
But while they were preoccupied with dodging, Enma seized the opportunity.
Pow!
One of them was punched out of the air before he could even land.
Genichi arrived with the flow of the water, shot into the air, and a Rasengan materialized in his right hand.
Water Release: Rasengan!
Yes, he had added water nature transformation into the Rasengan.
Genichi's target was the other Jonin-level Mist Ninja. The man was in mid-air. Hearing the sound of something rushing towards him, he swung his sword down, accurately clashing with the Rasengan in Genichi's hand.
The two of them were suspended in mid-air for a moment. The Rasengan broke, and a vortex of water engulfed the Mist Ninja, carrying him down from the air and slamming him into a tree trunk with a thud.
Genichi followed like a shadow. A knee strike precisely hit the Mist Ninja's neck. With a crack, the man's head drooped lifelessly.
At this moment, the last remaining Mist Ninja finally broke the genjutsu. He immediately chose to retreat and flee.
"Leave him to me!" Genichi shouted in a low voice. As he leaped up, he formed a hand seal, using the Art of Pyo. Instantly, his speed soared, startling Shinnosuke on Enma's shoulder.
Watching Genichi easily finish off the fleeing Mist Ninja with a water-on-water fight, even Enma couldn't help but say, "This kid is extraordinary!"
Shinnosuke smiled and nodded. "Genichi is indeed amazing. His Water Release is unique in the village. There should be no one better than him."
Genichi returned and said, "Senpai, I'm going to support the others!"
Shinnosuke nodded. Just as he was about to speak, a voice came from nearby. "No need!"
Swish! Swish! Swish!
Sakumo, Dōza, Kei, and Kakuto all appeared.
"Sensei!" A smile appeared on Genichi's face, and he also breathed a sigh of relief. It seemed this time they had gotten through the danger without any real harm.
"Shinnosuke, are you alright?!" Dōza and the others asked one after another.
Enma turned into a puff of smoke, dispelling the summoning. Shinnosuke smiled. "I'm fine, just a little low on chakra."
"Genichi, Namiichi is injured. Go and heal him," Sakumo said to Genichi.
"Understood!" Genichi immediately left for the camp outside the mine.
Genichi arrived at Namiichi's room and saw him lying down, a bandage wrapped around his waist.
"Genichi." Namiichi forced a smile. "I have to trouble you again."
Genichi walked over, undid the bandage to check the wound, and smiled. "It's fine, just a flesh wound. It didn't damage any internal organs."
"We're comrades who entrust our backs to each other. No need to be so polite."
"Wait a moment, I'll go get my things. We need to clean your wound before healing it."
With that, Genichi went back to his own room to get his backpack.
On the other side.
The real Genichi had just left when his clone arrived where Sakumo and the others were, carrying the unconscious Mist Ninja.
"Sensei, this guy is an Ice Release Kekkei Genkai user from the Mist Village." Genichi threw down the captive.
"A Kekkei Genkai user!" Nara Kakuto and the others all exclaimed in shock.
"This guy..." Looking at the captive on the ground, Akimichi Dōza said, "He must be a Jonin, right?"
Shinnosuke was secretly shocked. "The Yuki clan of the Mist Village is not large in number. At his age, his strength must not be weak. He must have been held up by a strong enemy earlier."
"But to be able to capture him alive... Genichi is becoming more and more surprising."
