Chapter 10
Chapter 10
I examined the report submitted by Nadia.
'Name... Beya. Race is Half Vampire with human blood. That matches.'
If the name and race are the same, then I can be pretty sure this is the character I created.
'Job is adventurer. Well, that was expected.'
My gaze gradually moved downward.
'Using the organization's intelligence network, Beya's combat power is assessed to be among the very top of adventurers...?'
Beya is at that level?
I recalled the appearance of Beya I had seen all day today.
Was she wearing two sealing cuffs?
Even so, the aura she gave off felt far stronger than mine, so she indeed might be top-class.
At least judging purely by the stats shown in the status window.
'Status window.'
[Name: Louis
Race: Human (Quarter Snow Elf)
Ability: Acceleration
Traits: Race of the Snow (Quarter), Ice Affinity, Dexterity
Stats: Strength:22 Stamina:21 Agility:26 Endurance:20 Magic Power:30
Caution! It has been ∞ hours since the last offering. ∞ hours remain until the next offering.]
I heard that for women unrelated to combat, their average stats except for magic power hover around 10.
For men, about 5.
Since each sealing cuff is said to seal roughly 15 stat points, if I wore one, I'd probably be weaker than an ordinary person.
For reference, if a stat is below 15, wearing a sealing cuff won't reduce it below 1-it bottoms out at 1 instead of going negative.
Yet despite wearing two of those sealing cuffs, she still exuded that kind of aura,
does that mean her magic power stat is at least in the 40s?
If that's the case, then placing a listening magic device under the bed was a very risky move.
If Beya's current magic power is lower than mine, she won't notice it,
but if it's higher, the risk of her detecting it grows exponentially.
'No help for it. I can only pray she doesn't notice.'
And if she does, I'll just pretend I know nothing.
Conveniently, there were plenty of people in this mansion to shift the blame onto.
I could just pin it on my second or third sister, or maybe even my mother.
Who would trust someone of the same sex, or trust me, a handsome man of the opposite sex?
Especially if she thinks that man owes her a debt, she'd have no choice but to trust me even more.
A small flame blossomed from my hand and instantly burned the report.
The ashes left after the report burned were carried out the window by a breeze blowing from my fingertips.
Tomorrow would mark the second day since Beya arrived at this mansion.
I briefly considered how I should treat Beya.
If I recklessly let her go, my mother would probably just kill her......
No matter how strong Beya is, my mother is connected with the Black Robe.
If she mobilized black mages, Beya's chances of winning were slim.
"Ah, forget it. I'll think about it tomorrow."
I lay down on the bed a little earlier than usual.
Maybe because I had exhausted too much mental energy, my body felt tired.
Just as my eyelids slowly closed and my consciousness began to sink into the depths,
-Ah, can you hear me?
I snapped my eyes open at Beya's sudden voice coming from the magic device by my pillow.
I pulled the blanket up with my hand and covered myself completely.
Then I brought the magic device close to my ear and listened carefully to the sound coming from it.
-For now, infiltration was a success...... Uh. Sorry about that...... But I couldn't miss this chance.
'Is she talking to someone?'
She said she infiltrated?
So she wasn't actually captured by my mother?
-......Right now, with the sealing cuffs on, that would be difficult.
What kind of conversation are they having?
Judging from the mention of sealing cuffs, it sounded like the other person was telling her to do something by force.
Or maybe they were just asking about her condition.
Personally, I hoped it was the latter.
-Still, I managed to gather quite a bit of intel. I still need to check on Black Bird, but it's certain they have information on the Black Robe...... That's right. They're a criminal organization after all. No mercy.
-Will I kill them all? Not all of them. We need witnesses, and there are a few I personally want to keep alive.
-......Sealing cuffs? I'm wearing two, but if I drink some blood, I think I could escape. When I applied some force to the iron bars, they bent pretty easily.
I held my breath.
Did I hear that right?
I thought my mother had kidnapped her, but she actually infiltrated on purpose?
To gather information on the Black Robe?
-If things go well, I might be able to find the Black Robe's hideout...... The deadline? Still valid. 10 days... no, gather at the coordinates I sent in 9 days. I'll collect as much intel as I can until then...... Discuss it well with the Adventurer Guild Master. Tell them they'll owe me one for this. Or just drop my name to His Majesty the Emperor. Since these are parasites eating away at the Empire, he'll gladly mobilize the army.
My head grew complicated.
So, to summarize what Beya just said,
she infiltrated this mansion to gather intel on the Black Robe,
and in 9 days, people will gather here to wipe out the mansion's inhabitants?
And if things go badly, even the Imperial Army might come?
I felt the same heart-stopping sensation as when I first met Beya.
The difference was, back then, it was mostly excitement and surprise,
but now, the overwhelming feeling was that I was utterly screwed.
This was dangerous.
With just the people in this mansion, we could never defeat the adventurers.
I pictured the organization members falling one by one amid the burning mansion.
I knew quite a lot about our organization-no, my mother's organization.
Even though it's a human trafficking ring, the notoriety of the organization called Svela spread throughout this country is quite high.
So their own combat power was considerable-they could probably hold out for some time.
Maybe the Black Robe would send reinforcements, too.
Considering the number of people they've consumed so far could form a mountain, they absolutely had to come.
But that would only buy a little time.
If adventurers volunteering to help wipe out Svela, mercenaries, or even minor awakened with special abilities joined in,
then it would be inevitable for the organization to collapse.
And once the organization fell, the first to suffer would be my family.
First of all, my mother and sisters would all die.
My father and I... might survive, somehow.
Because only my father and I had the distinctive features of Snow Elves, which are rarely seen except in the Empire's far north.
Snow-white hair and blue eyes like ice.
My father's ears, shorter than typical Snow Elves but still pointed, clearly showed he carried their blood.
My hand unconsciously reached for my ears.
Unlike the rounded ears of typical humans, I felt slightly pointed tips.
My sisters, also quarter elves like me, had slightly pointed ears as well,
but since they were women with black hair like my mother, their chances of survival were slim.
The prospects for my father and me were equally bleak.
If we were lucky, we might end up as sex slaves.
But if we were sold to someone with a bizarre fetish or a twisted taste...
Just imagining it was horrifying.
In fact, one of my acquaintances was an old hag who collected elf types as a hobby.
She had already collected Wood Elves, considered the standard among humans, and Dark Elves, famous for their dark skin,
I remembered how that old hag whined that she couldn't get her hands on High Elves, who live deep in the forest away from humans, or Snow Elves, who are occasionally found in the Empire's far north.
What if that old hag found out that Snow Elf blood runs through my veins?
She might buy me as a slave. Or she might kidnap and imprison me.
Just the thought of it made my body tremble like a leaf and my stomach churn.
Spending the night with a wrinkled old granny?
I would rather kill myself than go through that.
How could I possibly survive?
One idea immediately came to mind.
'Should I run away?'
If I ran away right now, maybe I could live.
I often left the mansion, so I knew the routes out very well.
If it came down to it, I could hole up in a secret passage I had prepared.
After a moment's hesitation, I sighed.
'But then Mother would probably catch me.'
So far, neither my family in the mansion nor the organization members had been attacked.
That meant Mother and the organization members were still fully capable.
It was highly likely that the moment I escaped the mansion, my every move would be reported to Mother in real time.
If I really wanted to run, it would have to be nine days from now. That was the perfect timing.
It wouldn't be easy to slip away through the swarm of people like a cloud of flies, but if I could just get out, I was confident I could survive.
Deep in thought, I turned my head toward where Beya was.
In that instant, a thought flashed through my mind like lightning, and my eyes widened.
'Do I really have to run away?'
