Chapter 264: Chapter 264: The Gluttonous Combee
"Swellow, this is for you. It's a gift from the trainer who hurt you before as an apology!"
Rex patted Swellow's wings and handed it the Sharp Beak.
Swellow picked up the Sharp Beak with its beak, and it fused into its body. After feeling the enhanced flying-type energy within, Swellow was overjoyed.
Swellow always craved anything that could increase its strength. It no longer held a grudge against Beach and now even thought Beach wasn't such a bad person after all!
The recent pursuit by Salamence and Noivern had made Swellow realize more deeply that its strength was still insufficient. If it had been stronger, it wouldn't have been so badly chased.
"Swellow, I shouldn't have let you go to Fallarbor Town alone this time. Next time, I won't let you face danger by yourself!"
Rex said solemnly to Swellow.
"Swah, swah!"
Swellow, however, did not react as Rex had expected. Instead, it chirped anxiously and shook its head furiously.
Although Swellow had been chased rather miserably this time, it still hoped to have the chance to go out alone again. The freedom to soar through the skies was something it wouldn't give up just because of the previous danger.
"Huh, are you saying you still want to go out alone?"
Rex, puzzled by Swellow's reaction, asked uncertainly.
"Swah!"
Swellow, seeing that Rex understood, nodded in satisfaction and chirped again.
"Well, I can't say no to you. But next time you go out, remember to come back at the first sign of danger. Also, practice your Tailwind skill more in the meantime so you can get faster!"
Rex, understanding Swellow's desire, decided not to overly restrict it, but he still reminded it to be prepared for danger.
Swellow had no objections to this. After nodding seriously at Rex, it flew toward the orchard.
This recent ordeal had shown Swellow the strength of its flock. So, it planned to train its underlings even harder to further improve their abilities.
Watching Swellow fly off gracefully, Rex realized it had experienced the joy of flying solo and didn't want to be confined to Rex's farm. Overall, Swellow just wanted to enjoy the occasional adventure.
It was just unfortunate that on its first solo trip, it had run into the rich trainer Beach, which resulted in such a miserable experience. Otherwise, with Swellow's strength and speed, escaping danger wouldn't have been an issue.
A few days later, Rex received feedback from grandpa Mike, confirming that the Revival Herbs and Energy Roots he had planted were perfectly effective. In fact, the potions made from them were even more potent than the herbs grown on Mount Chimney.
Once gramdpa Mike gave their final confirmation, Rex finally relaxed. Although he had been confident in his herbs, there was always some risk until the herbal medicine shop gave its official approval.
After all, Rex had never visited the herb farms on Mount Chimney and couldn't be certain if there was something special about that location. So, he hadn't been sure how the potions from his farm would turn out.
Now, the herbs grown in Rex's greenhouse had officially become the cornerstone of his farm's industry, providing him with a stable source of significant income every year.
The Revival Herb and Energy Root seeds he had placed in culture dishes had already sprouted. Rex had transplanted them into the greenhouse, though they were smaller than the other seedlings, as they had a shorter development time.
"Combee, is something wrong?"
At this time, Rex was heading toward Jade Moon Lake, planning to check on the Milotic. However, halfway there, he was stopped by a Combee.
Rex found this odd, as the Combee had been busy ever since arriving at the farm, either building hives or collecting nectar, and rarely paid him, the farm owner, any attention.
After buzzing a few times, the Combee flew toward the hive, occasionally turning back to look at Rex, clearly anxious.
Seeing this, Rex realized something must have happened at the hive, so he quickly followed Combee.
"Did Snorlax steal the Sweet Honey again?"
Rex hurried after Combee, wondering what might have gone wrong.
Soon, Rex arrived at the building where the hive was located. He noticed that none of the Combee were out collecting nectar; instead, they were gathered around a single Combee lying on the floor, moaning in pain.
Rex rushed over and crouched beside the Combee to check on its condition.
The Combee had a red spot on the lowest face, indicating that it was female, and it was noticeably larger than the other Combee.
Since Rex had allowed the Combee to eat the Sweet Honey they produced, their growth had accelerated. Rex had also provided them with plenty of Pokéblocks to help them evolve into Vespiquen as soon as possible.
"Combee, what's wrong?"
Rex asked with concern.
Hearing Rex's voice, the Combee weakly opened its eyes and looked at him. Then, it glanced toward the pool where the Sweet Honey was stored, before shaking its now noticeably swollen belly and moaning again.
Rex walked over to the pool and saw that the Sweet Honey had almost been completely consumed. After noticing Combee's bloated belly, he quickly figured out what had happened.
Apparently, in its eagerness to evolve into Vespiquen, the Combee had overindulged in Sweet Honey, far beyond what it could digest, and now it was suffering the consequences.
Rex couldn't help but find the situation both amusing and a little worrisome as he looked at the embarrassed Combee, its three little faces turning red in shame.
In truth, all it needed was a few days to gradually digest the excess Sweet Honey, and it would recover. However, those few days would feel like an eternity for Combee.
After some thought, Rex decided to help. He placed his hand on Combee's head, and a stream of green energy flowed from his hand into Combee's body.
As the life energy entered Combee, it began to strengthen its body, enhancing its digestive capabilities as well. The process would consume some of Combee's stored energy, speeding up its recovery.
Soon, the Combee, now energized and no longer in pain, buzzed happily around Rex, its size slightly increased and its aura more powerful than the other Combee.
"Little one, you've got to work hard now! I have high hopes for you!"
Rex said with a smile.
Hearing Rex's encouragement, Combee nodded solemnly, exuding an aura that said, "I will be Vespiquen!" (End of Chapter)
