Chapter 140: The woman and the serpent
"Will you marry me?" A teenage girl asked a young handsome man.
"I can't, you know I already have eyes on someone else," the handsome man replied.
The girl's face scrunched up as her eyes reddened. "You liar, you said I'm beautiful. Why the class rep and not me?"
The young man chuckled and responded, "You are beautiful, just not to me. I'm sure you'll find someone who likes the way you look, but that person can't be me."
...
Executioner Green woke up from her nightmare. Her face was bland and utterly devoid of emotions.
After all, this wasn't the first, second, or hundredth time she experienced that dream.
Her strength was greatly lacking compared to the other executioners. She had to put in the effort to max out her super genes this time.
Luck seemed to be on her side as she encountered a giant white snake which could reverse its death.
"Cheap imitation!" She cursed the serpent, and the two swiftly commenced their battle.
The Ouroboros Serpent never truly died, even when it was decapitated or smashed. It seemed to exist eternally and was a truly ferocious creature to deal with.
The two wielders of time fought for several days without a clear winner. Just as Executioner Green couldn't kill the snake, it couldn't kill her either.
One day while they were fighting, Executioner Green decapitated the snake with a swing of her blade.
On this particular day, she was trying to figure out a way to finally kill the serpent, so she didn't fight with her full strength.
Unexpectedly, the decapitated head grew back faster than usual and lunged at her straight away.
She jumped back, landing beside the monster's tail, but it's head was faster than her.
Surprisingly, it didn't bite her immediately but relocated its tail first before attacking her.
Such a gesture was done so fast, that it would have gone unnoticed but Executioner Green had been too observant of her recent foe.
"Oh, I get it now!" She slapped her forehead.
"You must be an Ouroboros snake. The ones that are always depicted biting their tails. That's the way to kill you, isn't it?" She flashed a cruel smile.
As if understanding her, the ten gene locks, berserk super creature actually ran away. The pinnacle of strength in the third sanctuaries chose to run away instead of fighting.
"That was stupid of me!" Executioner Green sighed and brought her sword to her chest.
She unsummoned her armor and, while closing her eyes, thrusted the blade through her heart.
Death was never something she sought, but with the allure of a time life essence, she just had to do it. She wouldn't actually die anyway.
Her consciousness was sent back to twenty hours ago, briefly before she went to engage the snake again.
She charged at the Ouroboros Serpent, but the white snake wasn't slow either and countered with a tail swipe.
Woman and Serpent, a strange duo, began fighting very ferociously.
The white snake moved its body like a whip, each lash leaving several afterimages in its wake.
Every shockwave produced by its tail split the ground and changed the formation of the landscape.
Executioner Green dodged each attack without the proper finesse of a movement technique.
Instead, she was moving at a speed five times that of the snake and perceived time seven times as fast.
The swift and fluid attacks of the snake became a slow and mechanical pattern, which could easily be perceived.
Yet, no matter how many times she countered and sliced the snake, it always healed back like it was reversing the time flow of its injuries.
The snake, which had grown utterly furious, stretched its neck backwards, preparing a lunge.
"That's what I've been waiting for!" Executioner Green yelled, and a green light escaped from her body.
The attack of the snake suddenly sped up by five times, reaching an unprecedented speed that could not be immediately controlled.
Executioner Green didn't dodge the gaping maws, but held the fangs of the snake, each of which was longer than her body.
"Haaa!" With a mighty yell, she adjusted the speeding head of the Ouroboros Serpent away from the ground and towards the end of its tail.
Even if the snake wanted to avoid it, it was too slow to perceive what was happening as its body was moving at five times its normal speed.
Chomp!
The fangs of the Ouroboros Serpent bit into its tail, and its shining white scales immediately dimmed to a dull gray.
Executioner Green, who was in the maw, appeared a few feet away in a blue flash of light.
She didn't waste a single second and dashed forward at supersonic speeds, decapitating the Ouroboros Serpent.
This time, though, the immortal snake didn't heal.
"That took forever... Ha!" Executioner Green laughed at her joke.
The body of the snake didn't disappear, so she used her blade to dig out the life essence from its carcass.
A transparent crystal was revealed. Within it was the image of a white snake coiled like a ring with its head biting at its tail.
She stared at the life essence for a few moments and sat down to absorb it.
A green rush of fluid flowed out from both her palms, suspending the orb midair and slowly dissolving it.
As the fluid flowed back into her system, Executioner Green could feel her powers growing.
Munch! Munch!!
A distinct chewing sound brought her out of the euphoric trance of growing stronger.
A blue-furred ape was eating the remains of the Ouroboros Serpent right before her.
The audacity!
She threw her sword at the ape, watching in awe as its fur began to glow and it ran away in fear at a speed far greater than usual.
"Another super creature with time powers!"
Executioner Green immediately stood up and gave chase to the Time Ape.
The creature was moving at four times speed while she could move at five. Under normal circumstances, she would catch up to it, but some of her powers were being used to digest the life essence.
Sure, she could stop absorbing it and give full chase, but anything could happen. If she died, that would mean all the super gene points would be gone and she would have to kill the Ouroboros Serpent all over again.
Instead, she chose to give chase at a steady pace while absorbing the life essence. Her energy was split between the two tasks, but there was no issue there.
Every once in a while, she would use the inherited power of space to teleport, when she was far behind the Time Ape.
She focused mostly on finishing the life essence in hand while making sure that the Ape didn't escape her sight.
...
Bian and his entourage followed behind at a very far distance. They could barely keep track of the two, if not for the glowing lights of their powers and the periodic flashes of deep blue.
"She also has the power of Executioner Blue, but it looks weaker compared to the original," Bian commented.
Han Yan moved forward and said, "She has a strange aura around her. It reminds me of your Emperical Aura, but hers is way smaller."
They kept following her, until four hours had elapsed. Bian, who could make out her details with difficulty, shook his head in resignation.
"It's not enough! She is about to fully consume the life essence in her hands. Once she does that, the Time Ape is dead!"
If they couldn't observe her for twenty-four hours, she could reset the day and flee before they even approached her.
They had to maximize the time they followed her, which led to one of the many contingency plans Bian had been working on.
He, Man Tian, and Han Yan all got off the golden growler, while Tyrant stayed on, bringing out the berserk halberd.
The golden growler went full force and grew in size to be larger than all the volcanoes and mountains in the area.
Its speed exploded with its size as it went off into the distance, while the three humans gave chase using various beast souls.
Executioner Green had finished absorbing the life essence of the Ouroboros Serpent. She summoned her blade and flashed forward in a blue light.
As she reappeared, the green light around her body intensified. She burst out with full speed, easily catching up to the ape.
The ape turned back, just in time to defend against a swipe to its neck.
Its hand flew off its body and it yelled out in pain. Despite this, the Time Ape didn't slow down as it fled for its life.
Executioner Green couldn't teleport again in a short span of time. She used her full strength and caught up with the Ape, thrusting her sword at its heart.
Roar!
A magnificent roar echoed through the air. A golden lion, as big as a mountain, came crashing down on her.
"Time skip!"
Her body turned illusionary with a green filter and the gargantuan paw of the Golden Growler passed through her.
Boom!
A large dust cloud formed on the vicinity. The sound of a blade piercing flesh could be heard as the tip of Tyrant's halberd penetrated the Time Ape's shoulder.
When the dust settled, the minotaur spared her a glance from atop the golden growler and ran away with the impaled ape.
"BLOODY HELL, YOU DARE!"
Executioner Green immediately gave chase to the mountain-like lion and it's minotaur rider.
Finding a time creature was near impossible, and she would be damned if she let another being steal her prey.
