Reborn As A Phoenix With Beast Taming System

Chapter 19: 019: Healing The Earth Drake

"Alright. It's a deal then."

Ash hopped on the drake's hip once again, studying the decaying flesh closely. As a former human mercenary and also a low rank beast tamer who had experienced many battlefields, Ash knew a thing or two about dressing a wound or dealing with maladies that usually occurred to the beasts and war horses in a prolonged mission.

"This is no ordinary decay." Ash said, distraught.

"Meaning?" The drake inquired.

"I might be wrong. But, from what I see here, this wound was inflicted by a venomous weapon, or in this case, very sharp claws, fangs, or even a sword."

The drake flinched at the slightest touch. "Can you find the cure?"

"If you were willing to tell me what or who you did fight. When, where, and what beast species that you fought."

"The wound wasn't inflicted by any beast." The drake rested her head to the ground, breathing heavily. "A few winters ago, a young cultivator and his entourage came into my cave in the north. He suddenly attacked and left once he was satisfied with torturing me. I had no choice but to flee to this remote southern region to recuperate. Alas, the venom was too strong for me. My regeneration ability is only able to keep the venom at bay."

Ash clenched his beaks tight. He knew from the beginning it was inflicted by cultivators who preyed on the weak beast. The strong and powerful Immortal Beasts inhabited the Northern Region where abundant Qi Energy surged out from the Spirit Vein. As for the Sky Rank Earth Drake, she was just a juvenile compared to those monsters. It's only natural for wannabe cultivators to search for a fairly weaker Immortal Beast to boast their strength and gain fame.

"Thank you for telling me." Ash kept his rage in check. "I need to run some tests to identify the venom and concoct the anti-venom. However, judging from the decaying matter on your flesh, we need to—"

"Just do what you need to do. I can endure this venom for a bit longer until you find the cure."

"We need to amputate your leg." Ash continued what he was about to say before he was interjected by her.

The drake's eyes widened. She couldn't possibly stomach to live with just three legs. Though she has [Regeneration], it would take her years to regrow the amputated leg.

"Will it cure me permanently?"

"I am not sure, but it's worth a try. Also, your life would not be in great danger compared to the other methods which I need to experiment with your blood to see which Anti-venom that is needed to treat you."

"Fine. Do it quickly."

"Ah, I almost forgot. I will also need a very sharp, and robust sword or maybe a very sharp stone to lessen the pain."

"Is that everything you need?"

"Yes. I will be back very soon. Hang in there."

"Did you forget who I am?"

"Of course not. You are an Earth Drake." Ash tilted his head.

"Exactly."

Afterward, the drake dug the soil, unearthing the shiny crystal that she brought from her home. Ash briefly touched the crystal to identify the item. A Mythril Crystal! As pure as it can get! The hardest metal that can only be obtained deep in the belly of the realm.

Wasting no time, the drake took a little bite on the Mythril Crystal, crushing it with her teeth. Ash then realized that the Earth Drake had teeth that were even harder than the Mythril Crystal. He was more curious with the drake's insane physiology rather than the rare mineral that she crushed like eating soft bones.

Not so long after, the drake finished chewing and swallowed the metal in one go. Its belly then glowing in red hue, signifying the complex metallurgy process that happened inside her.

Before long, a searing hot metal ingot came out of her mouth. She then carefully forging the white hot ingot into a long sword with a spherical handle that had indentations so Ash could hold it firmly with his talons. Although the shape was rather rudimentary, it possessed unparalleled sharpness that could slash the entire mountain in twain.

Ash was baffled, he never saw a beast who could forge a metal ingot into a sword before.

"H-How did you do that?"

"Heh, Dwarves, Elves and Humans might be renowned for their skilled artisans. But, you shall not forget, that Drakes, are the ones who taught humanity how to forge and build civilization!"

"Hold on—" Ash was shocked upon hearing it. He didn't expect that the Dwarven race and Elves were also existed in this realm.

"Is there something the matter?" The drake inquired.

"Nevermind. Let's proceed with the procedure. I need to block your meridian to prevent Qi Deviation and excessive blood loss."

"Done. I have temporarily blocked my meridian."

Since the blade was still scorching hot, Ash had no need to heat it again with fire.

"Good." Ash then grabbed the sword with his talons. "Ready?"

"Do it!"

Ash flew a tad higher into the air, he did a horizontal whirlwind manoeuvre to gain more momentum. Once he reached the terminal velocity, Ash slashed her leg swiftly, the cut was so clean. The sharpness of the blade cut the flesh and bones into cellular level. Guaranteeing a fast recovery for the drake.

The drake roared when the brain sensed the pain. She could feel her leg was being cauterized, slowly. On the other hand, Ash kept his composure steady, he didn't even flinch when he had to run the scorching hot blade across the open wound like smearing butter into bread.

Ash was out of breath when the procedure was completed. On the other hand, the Earth Drake was exhausted and nearly fainted after mustering every last drop of her Qi.

"Are we done yet?" The drake asked.

"Yes. How are you feeling?"

"Better. Still in pain but it's bearable. And I feel kind of sleepy."

Ash was panicking at first. He frantically checked every sign to ensure the venom didn't reach her heart. However, he was so annoyed upon hearing a loud snoring noise from the drake.

"For god's sake. Don't prank me like that! I thought you were dying!"
