Chapter 28: Volume 1: Chapter 028 - Fou, Getto daze!
"En?!"
"I'm fine, don't worry. It didn't close its jaws."
Hearing the cry of alarm from behind him, Aozaki Rin signaled for Merlin to remain calm.
Although he had indeed been startled by the three-eyed cat demon's action, he quickly realized that the creature hadn't bitten off his arm. It was merely holding his arm in its mouth, as if to test his reaction.
He could feel a warm, slick, and slightly viscous sensation on his hand.
Aozaki Rin felt a little uncomfortable, but he didn't immediately pull his hand out, instead waiting for the cat demon to release its grip on its own.
What he didn't expect, however, was that the three-eyed cat demon did indeed slowly open its mouth and release his arm. But at the last moment, whether intentionally or not, its sharp teeth lightly scraped the skin of his fingertip.
Aozaki Rin could feel a hot, wet tongue, like a slithering snake, sweep across his fingertip, licking clean the small drops of blood that had seeped from the skin.
A moment later, as if satisfied or perhaps unable to bear it any longer, the three-eyed cat demon suddenly released its great maw. The entire cat stumbled backward, swaying as if hungover, and let out several burps.
Before long, it fell to the ground with a thump.
Even its previously sizable cat-like body had shrunk into a strange little white animal just big enough to stand on a person's shoulder.
Aozaki Rin stood there, stunned for a moment. He blinked, unable to process what had just happened in those brief few seconds.
He could only turn his head and point a damp finger forward, asking the white-haired magus who had witnessed everything.
"Merlin, what's going on now?"
Merlin looked at the rapidly changing situation before him, opened his mouth, but was momentarily at a loss for words.
To be honest, he had thought he had seen enough strange things in his life, but he had never seen anything like this.
Isn't this the 'Beast of Sin' in its immature state? Why did it just collapse? And it looks like it's drunk?
After a long silence, Merlin finally managed to squeeze out a sentence.
"...I guess you've successfully picked up a 'cat.'"
[You have picked up a three-eyed cat demon.]
[Although you don't understand how things turned out this way, at Merlin's persuasion, you can only hold the sleeping cat demon in your arms for now and bring it back to the military camp.]
[Upon returning to the camp, your sister Artoria first asks if you are injured, only then noticing the strange little animal in your arms.]
[You and Merlin explain the whole story to Artoria. Although it is bizarre, the matter was resolved peacefully in the end, which brings your sister some relief.]
[However, compared to your sister, your brother Kay is clearly still bothered by it.]
[After all, he had suffered quite a bit at the hands of this cat demon earlier. Now, looking at the little animal sleeping in your arms, he subconsciously wants to grab its ears and teach it a little lesson.]
[To his surprise, at that moment, the sleeping three-eyed cat demon suddenly wakes up. As if sensing danger, it leaps from your arms, and its small paws kick your brother Kay squarely in the chest, sending him flying.]
[You hurriedly go to check on Kay's condition. Fortunately, he has only taken a hard fall and is not seriously injured.]
[But this incident makes everyone present understand that this three-eyed cat demon you've brought back is no ordinary creature.]
[Just as you are considering how to deal with this strange cat demon, it suddenly jumps onto your shoulder and rubs its furry cheek against yours, as if trying to get close to you.]
[At that opportune moment, Merlin speaks up.]
["Since this little guy likes being by your side so much, just let it stay with you for now. After all, if we just release it, there's no guarantee it won't cause trouble somewhere else and harm other people." ]
[After a moment's hesitation, you nod and agree with Merlin's suggestion.]
[You're not sure if it's your imagination, but you feel that as the cat demon rubs against your cheek, your sister Artoria casts an envious gaze at the little animal on your shoulder, leaving you somewhat confused.]
[But since you've decided to keep this cat demon, it's not right to keep calling it that.]
[As you are thinking about what name to give it, Merlin speaks up without any warning.]
["Why not call it Cath Palug?"]
[You ask why. But Merlin doesn't explain, only saying that it was the first name that came to him by intuition.]
[At the same time, the cat demon in your arms seems to agree, letting out two cries of "Fou~ Fou~".]
[And so, you decide to make "Cath Palug" its official name, while on a daily basis, you'll simply call it "Fou," based on its cry.]
[In this way, the matter of the three-eyed cat demon is settled. And in your army, there is now one more small white animal that looks like a cat, a dog, and a rabbit.]
[Fortunately, in the following days, you encounter no further accidents and arrive smoothly at one of the territories occupied by Vortigern's army, according to the original plan.]
[Your sister Artoria leads from the front on the battlefield, her valiant and heroic figure imprinted in the eyes of all the soldiers.]
[And you, along with your brother Kay and Gawain, follow closely behind Artoria, fighting bravely against the enemy.]
[Clearly, this is a battle with no suspense.]
[In less than half a day, you have won the battle, with fewer than twenty casualties in your army.]
[However, even though this was just a battle to retake a small territory, the result still greatly boosted the morale of those who followed your sister Artoria.]
[They cheer the name "King Arthur" on the battlefield, as if the mere existence of that name could solve all problems.]
[But your sister is not complacent. She orderly directs the soldiers to clean up the battlefield and organize supplies, clearly already preparing for the next battle.]
[And you understand that the next battle will likely not be as simple as today's.]
[After all, to Vortigern, an undefeated King Arthur and a victorious King Arthur likely hold entirely different meanings.]
[But these are not problems that can be solved by worrying alone. Infected by the joy of victory, Gawain slings his arms around your and your brother Kay's shoulders, pulling you into the soldiers' celebratory banquet.]
[Although the road ahead is still worrisome, at this moment, you laugh along with them.]
