Chapter 322: War Strategy
The pandemonium spread from the center of the herd and slowly crept to every corner of the Super Mega Herd.
The herd which had been peaceful and unlikely to ever engage in such full-scale conflict was currently doing so.
This had never happened before, not now, not the other seasons that had come before this day. This was the first time such chaos ensued.
Different herd members were fighting each other. Giraffes were fighting buffaloes, zebras were fighting wildebeests, and antelopes were fighting zebras.
It was now clear that there were two factions within the herd. One was the fanatic group that kept on shouting that the golden lion was their savior and other fanatical nonsense that no one could make sense of.
The other was the confused herd members who didn't even understand what was happening. As soon as the signal was given and the fanatics started fighting, they were out in a defensive position.
There was a pattern to the conflict, even though everything seemed chaotic and disorganized.
When the signal had been given, the fanatic herd members didn't just start attacking everyone blindly. That would be bad and they would not likely win without suffering themselves.
No, for some time now, the fanatics had set their eyes on their targets. Those whom they had evangelized to but refused to join them were the targets of these sudden attacks.
What did it mean to refuse their beliefs? It was no different than saying that they were wrong, it made them feel uncertain about everything they had faith in.
Naturally, their first victims were those heretics who didn't want to see the world in harmony.
This had already been somewhat agreed on in the spirit channel through subtle suggestions.
Even now, their very actions were under someone else's control and manipulation and they had no idea.
Flames and electric bolts curved through the air, vines shot out from the ground to hook at different creatures, and moisture was dragged from the atmosphere and used to form water constructs.
Resounding roars were heard as herd creatures were sent flying. The ground cracked and shattered from the ongoing fights.
As time passed, it became clear that this wasn't a mistake, this was an all-out fight for their beliefs. They weren't just fighting, they were killing.
More than a million creatures, fighting at the same time. Kael felt the ground tremble terribly from the power that was being transmitted through it. This was the first large-scale battle he would ever witness in the wild world and it was caused by him, a former human.
The irony.
At the edge of the herd, the creatures there had been weary of him, not knowing that he had long planted their disaster in their place of comfort.
Kael's two wings quivered slightly, causing the wind to start to pick up and blow his mane to the side.
He was still waiting. Now was not the time. As much as he would like to take every herd member here alive, he couldn't do so.
They would be a logistical nightmare that the kingdom might not be able to handle. Besides, even if he tried to take as many as he could, some of them might one day rebel against the kingdom.
Their numbers needed to be whittled down to a manageable size. The potential weeds had to be removed with unusual methods.
Right now, they were doing it for him, they were killing each other for his lie. He liked that, but that wasn't enough.
Kael observed the Vassal Record, noticing that the herd members on his side were starting to die as their identity marks were being erased at a fast pace. The other creatures were starting to react and respond with their own attacks.
Now, Kael reached his consciousness into the spirit network. He started relaying a series of orders, asking for the herd members to group up and support themselves instead of spreading out.
He also ordered them to prioritize mobility over defense.
Kael began guiding them in a hit-and-run tactic.
Because of how spread out the spirit channel was, the herd members could not hear Kael's voice at all. But they could sense his intentions and followed them. When he intended for them to form groups, they did so obediently.
When he wanted them to run around while attacking their other herd members, they did so obediently.
The other herd members that were just starting to recover and fight back when the fanatics began to employ something that they had never and would have never been able to defeat.
A strategy.
Always read from the source: M|V|LE4MPYR.
In Kael's past life, an effective strategy was the reason why one person could fight ten people and come out victorious. It was the reason why smaller nations could wage war against bigger nations, and it was the reason why companies could monopolize certain industries.
An effective strategy would almost always beat no strategy. Unless in the case of overwhelming power from the enemy side that no strategy could deal with, most times, a good strategy could change the tide of battle, just like it was doing now.
Kael was simply employing one of the simplest strategies he knew of.
By consolidating them into different groups, he could increase their chances of survival by making them support each other. Those with spirit powers could support with illusions and communication, those with long-range abilities could contribute and help those close combat fighters.
This way, it would be hard for the enemy to capitalize on any weakness without being barraged from all sides.
As for making sure that they were mobile. One of the best defenses against any attacks was mobility, the ability to move around, having the space to maneuver, and change direction whenever one wanted.
Mobility should never be discarded for anything. Combining the grouping and mobility orders, Kael was hoping to give his herd a fighting chance.
This was also an experiment. This was the first time he would be commanding such an army on his own. He had no military training, nor had he been in a corporate management position. All he had were the memories of the Primordials, his little knowledge of different experiences from his past life, and this new life.
He was testing if he was good at commanding an army. As a conqueror and a king, he had to be multi-disciplinary and master multiple arts including warfare.
He wasn't expecting to be victorious on the first try, although he would love it if that happened. For this command session, he allowed a bit of his conqueror's instincts to take over, a little bit.
He was calm-headed despite the bad headache he currently had. His mind was sharp and he had the intelligence and thinking faculty of a Magus lion. He also had the instincts and drive of a War Lion.
However, Kael's strategy worked better than expected.
This was a herd, a Super Mega Herd. They had zero experience when it came to fighting against strategic combatants. The effects were immediate, the fanatics started to gain the upper hand despite their weaker numbers.
They formed groups of ten or more, each group filled with a variety of creatures with different superpowers.
As Kael expected, these groups were able to cover the weaknesses of all their members while increasing their overall strengths.
Where the main herd members were seemingly disorganized and had no chain of command to follow, the fanatics were orderly and moved with purpose.
They never stopped moving, even as a group. But, where are they moving to?
From above, the birds could see that all the fanatic herd groups were moving in a pattern and were heading for one place in common.
The fanatic groups moved in a zig-zag pattern randomly. They would smash their way through the bodies of their enemies in one direction before suddenly changing their path and smashing through another set of bodies in another direction.
Because they were constantly moving, it was hard to hit all of them at once, and even if an attack landed, it wouldn't change much.
Walls of earth and ice rose, balls of fire and lightning flew, winds of air and water slashed through the ranks. Different power levels clashed.
As for where all the fanatic groups were moving to, they were not entirely random as they had a destination in mind. The edge of the herd.
The Super Mega Herd was large, if they could make it to the edges, they could use their strategy more effectively.
Meanwhile, while the fanatic herd groups were making their way to the edges, Kael's body shook and his aura rose sharply, stunning everyone.
His wings flapped and he rose into the sky, letting out a deafening roar that stunned everyone, both herd and horde.
All the herd creatures comparable in strength to a tier 4 lion felt shivers down their spines. They had a feeling that the owner of that roar had focused his gaze on them.
Kael flapped his wings again before turning into a golden blue that shot straight for the center of the Super Mega Herd.
