Shinji And The Multiverse Of Madness

Chapter 6: Onwards, To Grimdark!

[The Avenging Son: So, what you're saying is that in your world, me, my father, my brothers, my men, my world... is just a game!? And you think it's fun!?]

[Prissy Loser: Well, yes. B-but don't worry, your lordship. Since you're here, I can help you get glimpses of what will happen.]

His expression frenetic, Shinji still couldn't believe it. He couldn't believe that something that only happened in stories was happening to him right now. And most importantly, the Interdimensional Chat Group has given him hope.

Hope to get magic back

But he could not rush it, for it seems that Lord Guilliman, the Guilliman of Ultramar, was speaking to him right now. He knew better than anyone that he was the most logical of the Primarchs, and the most wary of his children.

[Prissy Loser: So, Lord Guilliman, what year is it now?]

[The Avenging Son: ...I don't know. Ever since I was interred on the throne in Macragge, I have lost all sense of time. Days, years, millennia. To me, it's all just a blur. I don't know how bad the Imperium is now, but from the smidgen of information you had inevitably leaked, it seems to me that it's now in (what you'd call) a shitshow. Haah, all the dreams Father had have most probably gone up in smoke...]

Seeing him distraught, Shinji did not know how to console him, for he was older, wiser, and more knowledgeable than the 7-year-old him. Just as he was wondering how on earth he could console him, he remembered something he had forgotten.

[Prissy Loser: Oh right, the daily lottery! Lord Guilliman, I shall post to you what I was even when I first joined. And one of the main things was the daily point lottery. Perhaps if you collect enough points, or get lucky enough to get a rare enough loot box, you could possibly be healed and come back from the dead.]

Silence reigned in the chat, before (what seemed to be in a hoarse tone) Guilliman replied.

[The Avenging Son: A-are you serious? Is it possible? Can I return back!?]

[Prissy Loser: Yes my lord. From what I can infer, there is a high chance you can. So let's get rid of the doom and gloom, and start the lottery! If only there was a loot box as a novice gift–]

[Ding! Sorry for forgetting about it, but every new member gets a loot box as a novice gift. Just turn the turntable, and see what type of loot box you'll get]

Suddenly, the screen went dark, before a turntable of immense proportions generated itself in front of them. Bronze, Silver, Gold, Diamond, Rainbow... these colours dazzled the young Shinji. Seeing them, Shinji impatiently jammed his short fingers onto the screen, wanting the best loot box.

As the table began turning, he prayed with all his heart that he would get the Rainbow box. When the pointer landed on the Rainbow, he grew jubilated. Just as he was about to scream in joy, the pointer, at the last second, flipped over to the next slot.

A tiny slot, barely an inch thick, was beside the Rainbow slot. Filled with question marks, there was no specification regarding its grade. Feeling disappointed, he collected it, an old, mottled box, before going back to the chat.

[The Avenging Son: Holy Terra, I seem to have gotten quite a find!]

[Prissy Loser: Lord Guilliman, what did you get...?]

[The Avenging Son: I seem to have obtained a...'Rainbow' box. Opening it granted me what I wanted most: Temporal Regeneration. This is perfect for me, for I am currently locked in a near-death state inside the stasis field in Macragge. While I technically still love, I cannot heal my wounds, which means that if the field is removed...

I die

This has come to me just in the nick of time. Though, since I'm a Primarch, the process will take me around 200-300 years to complete, up to which I'll be sitting on the throne, immobile. So, young Shinji, what did you get?]

Seeing his idol curious, Shinji wanted to lie, but stopped once he realised that it was impossible to lie in front of him. Heaving a breath of resignation, he opened the box.

What he saw shocked him to his core

[Mental Immunity: You are completely immune to any and all forms of mental manipulation. Anyone attempting to do so without your permission will be counterattacked, causing them immense damage, or death in some cases. This also comes with psychological healing, so if your psyche is damaged by any means, you can heal yourself over time. Time for completion decreases as you attain more mastery over it, along with stronger mental strength.

Multiversal Ticket: A ticket that allows you to travel to a world of your choice. A temporal point will also be generated, so if you return there will be no discrepancies in the time stream]

Unable to believe what he saw, Shinji stood with his mouth agape. Only when Guilliman called him back did Shinji snap out of his stupor.

[The Avenging Son: ...]

[The Avenging Son: Unbelievable! Your luck must be out of the charts! But I must warn you, every gift has its price. When and where you have to pay, that is the frightening part...]

Realising what he meant, Shinji's back sweated in fear. Just as he began panicking about what to do, he saw the last item again. His mind lit up when he realised what he could do...

[Prissy Loser: U-umm, Lord Guilliman, can i come to your world?]

[The Avenging Son: Why do you want to come to the hellhole that is our world!?]

[Prissy Loser: Well, the thing is...]

From here, Shinji began telling Guilliman all about himself, from his struggles to his abandonment. He knew he could tell him everything, for despite being a 7-year-old, he was very intelligent. He knew that if Guilliman wanted him any harm, the system would immediately detect his malicious intentions, and punish him immediately.

Guilliman grew quiet once he began digesting the information. Despite being in the hellhole that is Warhammer 40K, at least he had childhood. Seeing a 7-year-old abandoned just because he was 'not useful' drew ire into him. He wished he could travel to young Shinji's world and smite the Godforsaken beings Shinji calls his parents, but he couldn't.

So he settled on the next best option

[The Avenging Son: Kid, I approve of it. You may come to my world, and stay here–]

[Prissy Loser: Can I become one of the Adeptus Astartes!?]

Guilliman grew silent, for he knew better than most how gruelling the task is. But seeing a young Shinji, despite being forsaken, kept his hopes up in this cruel world, his heart grew soft.

[The Avenging Son: Very well, I shall give you a chance. Though the training is mind-gruelling, if you persevere, you shall have the power to level entire cities on your own. But beware, power, like all tools, can corrupt even the noblest of souls. So please, try to never forget who you are...]

Shinji grew excited, for despite the dire warnings, he was excited to finally have permission to go to Warhammer 40K. Even if he gets maimed, even if he dies, he knows that his mind would be at peace, for he had tried to change his fate.

[Prissy Loser: Okay, here I come!]

And with a soft flash of light, the boy disappeared into the air...
