Chapter 14: Chapter 14: Redwood Ghost Showdown

Chapter 14: Redwood Ghost Showdown

"Alright, gang. We are officially here in the neighborhood where this mystery began and is currently ongoing. Of the 17 neighborhoods in Redwood City, about seven are being affected by this so-called ghost." Fred smiled as he pulled out a map to point to all seven areas on the map.

"Fred, which house was affected first again? We should investigate that house first before scouting the affected areas this week until we catch that ghost," I answered confidently while looking at my husband to do his thing.

"You know what gang we should check out the first reported house for any clues before looking in the other affected areas guys. Like always gang, my plans are on point in every mystery we solve. I'll get the traps ready, gang." Fred said not noticing he had forgotten his special orange ascot at home and was wearing a random orange ascot from the mystery machine.

Let's split up guys, me and Daphne will interview the first house and search for clues. Shaggy, Scooby, and Velma will search around the neighborhood for clues. Emma and her family will help by interviewing other places affected by the ghost." Fred declared.

. . .

"Mom this is boring, why must we go around asking others for hints, can't we just kill the monster already." Lucas whined about being forced to go with his parents in asking around the neighborhood to see what happened to who and when.

"Sweetie, behave yourself, we are about to ask the next victim if they saw anything specific." I whispered to my son's ear as I hit his head with a newspaper I had grabbed earlier.

"Oww, Mom that hurt me. Dad can you heal the terrible wound Mom just infli-- umm added to my body. Please, Dad, it really really hurts." Lucas lied and exaggerated as naturally as he breathed.

"Son, if it hurts so much we might as well feed you a special red potion we gave you before we went to Japan to make you feel better." James spoke aloud as he put his right arm around our son and left one around me. He looked at towards me before saying something.

"Honey, we wouldn't want our lovely little boy to suffer this terrible wound, he has a point." The sarcasm was deafening while Lucas's face twisted in horror.

"Dear you're right, we wouldn't want our baby boy to suffer any longer. Get both potions Honey Bear, this level of pain might have affected our baby boy's mind as well." I remarked with a huge smirk on my face.

"You know what, guys? I'm completely fine. It looks like I miraculously healed for some reason." Lucas said while trying to escape his Honey Bear's hold.

"You know what son, we can never be too sure about these things. You might as well drink both potions your mother lovingly made for any situation, boy." James's hold grew stronger on his son who kept trying to leave its grasp.

"Dad, I told you I am fine, so just trust me and let me go already."

"You know this might be serious son, you can never be too sure about these things." he said

"Your father is right sweetie, just be a good boy and drink the potions." I replied with a smirk still on my face

"Fine, you guys win. I'll behave ok; Just don't make me drink those potions." My son replied, grumbling with a frown.

"Honey look it's a miracle, Lucas just healed himself instantly. He might not need those potions after all." My husband voiced as he was still keeping the bit up.

"You're right. Our baby boy is fine, so let's go back to plan and interview Miss Johnson as planned." I remarked while I had a smug expression looking towards my son.

. . .

"My husband's favorite wrench was stolen by that damned Redwood ghost." Miss Johnson stated while her husband was sulking in the corner by the door while they spoke about what happened.

"Miss Johnson, how long have you two been married again." I asked calmly.

"Jessica and I have been married for 40 years. We got married right out of high school. Investigators, please find that wrench. it's been in the family for almost four generations now; I had planned for it to be a gift to my youngest son after he comes back from college." Roy Johnson replied with a sad tone.

"We'll try our best sir, but no hard feelings if nothing turns up." My husband answered while they all walked away to move to the next house affected by the Redwood ghost.

. . .

"Gang we have been in this place for five hours now what have we found so far" I said

I looked at the list my eyes wide at the various items missing in this one neighborhood.

"Hold the phone. If hundreds of items are missing in this neighborhood alone, and we haven't even finished checking it all out, Then we are possibly looking at tens of thousands of possible missing items in total." I said as I had tried to analyze it further but gave up on that to let Velma do the heavy lifting in that department.

"Fred you have to remember some people have had multiple items stolen at a time, sometimes they even stole five or more times from the same person, taking multiple items each time. If we included the possibility of numerous unreported cases that likely exist, calculated with the total population of Redwood City, then there is a real possibility that this entity had stolen millions or more items in total. Jinkies, it's more than expected even from these basic calculations." Velma responded aloud with a semi-shocked expression.

'This is either the work of some sort of massive organization or the work of a mighty powerful supernatural entity. Either way, this probably isn't something we all can handle if Shaggy doesn't try his best.' Velma thought before she heard Emma whispering something about the emotional energy refinement ritual if she heard it correctly.

"Guys we might have to put a hold on this case to hand it over to the real professionals." James told them while having a shocked expression.

'I just realized this was way out of all our league if millions of items from multiple locations all around a city were stolen in a relatively short period of time frame. Plus Fred's group had only received this case recently. This isn't something we can handle if proven to be true, this mission was meant to be an easy way for our son to gain a bit of experience, not a possible death trap.' He thought to himself

"Shaggy, it seems we can't hang out, or investigate anymore dude. My mom and dad probably think this is too dangerous or something." Lucas groaned as he saw everyone going back inside the van.

Shaggy's hair grew a little long, and it had a slight silver glow to it that was barely visible to anyone. He put his fist in the air and it made everyone stop.

"Little man, never fear for I am here. Like even if the gods themselves appeared before the Shag meister, they would fall before my showing of true magic little man. I'll handle any issues that arise with the gang, ok, so never fear, and like keep investigating guys." Shaggy's confidence in his tone lifted the burden off everyone's shoulders as they all knew if anything happened Shaggy was here.

. . .

Just like that, one week passed with them confirming tens of thousands of cases went unreported due to fear and other reasons. With them investigating every neighborhood affected by the Redwood Ghost they reached a startling conclusion.

"Three million gang, over three million items, and counting have been stolen from the residents. Sometimes entire homes or buildings were taken by this ghost in the dead of night. The thing they all shared in common was them all being loved for years to sometimes decades or longer at a time. In other words, like Miss Emma said three days ago when we caught a few traces of that ghost, all the objects involved have an intense emotional link of some kind bound to them." Fred repeated the conclusions Daphne and Velma just talked about just a minute ago before.

'Guess, Fred forgot his enchanted ascot at home or else h--her sudden change two days ago when she tried to trap the Redwood ghost with her magic can't be explained. Emma couldn't do anything since all her tools were at home.' James felt sorry for Fred's sacrifice in the name of getting trap magic.

"Anyways, Shaggy are you sure you can handle whatever we face because with all the clues we gathered together, we will be heading to the sewer system tonight?" Fred said while everyone including Emma, James, and Lucas, looked at Shaggy in wonder.

"Guys, never doubt Shaggy. Shaggy is the strongest." Scooby replied for Shaggy as Shaggy himself gave Scooby a Scooby snack as a gift for answering for him.

"Like Scooby just said guys, like I can handle it." He said with a relaxed tone.

"LET'S GO GUYS" My baby boy screamed aloud from what looked to be joy.

'My life was finally becoming more interesting. I wonder how this adventure will turn out?' Lucas thought to himself.

. . .

The gang and others charged into the sewers later that night while Lucas smiled the entire time.

"Velma, are you sure we are heading the right way?" Daphne asked with Fred carrying her in the sewers with her feminine arms. She didn't want to get dirty so she had Fred carry her.

'I wonder if Fred is up for a little spice with his female form when we get home after this. His new form could be an interesting spice we can add to our love life.' Daphne thought while in Fred's arms.

"Dad, can you give me a piggyback ride like old times? I don't like walking around in this dirty water." My baby boy asked, trying to plead with my husband to carry him.

"Son, to be a real man you have to learn to suffer in silence. The world won't save you when you're deep in shit. Only you can save yourself, boy keep walking like the rest of us, and stop complaining." My husband responded.

"Dad you're carrying Mom, Fred is carrying Daphne, Shaggy is carrying both Scooby and Velma easily. Can't you do me solid and carry me too like mom, pretty please." My baby boy asked once again pulling out all the stops as his puppy dog eyes were in attack mode.

"Sweetie, just follow your father's advice, what I'm doing may seem unfair, it is, but suck it up, Lucas. Life isn't fair. Some people are born luckier, stronger, more beautiful, smarter, faster, more talented, and more. This isn't a game where we are all given an even playing field to show off our skills and hard work. This is a test sort of, you just need to keep walking through the dirty polluted water on your ok." I responded to my son's pleading with a stern tone.

'I hope I wasn't being too harsh on my baby, he wants to be treated like an adult, yet he acts like this around others. He needs to learn the world isn't fair early on and hopefully grow up a bit.' I thought sighing at the situation.

. . .

After following Velma's map they eventually found themselves by a shattered wall leading to a dry cave. They went down this cave for seemingly 20 minutes before they reached the true area down below.

The gang found themselves within a large secret cavern connected to the sewer system under Redwood City's overarching structure.

The entire underground cavern was large enough to fit seven story buildings in height and the length of the entire thing could take up to 10% city in size.

Multiple mountains of items could be seen within the chaos that was this cavern. The walls were lined with runes and an unknown language all written in blood. Children could be heard crying as floating glowing white orbs roamed above the mountains of items in this place. In the center of the cavern was a giant eye with purple & crimson tentacles could be seen reaching out towards the man in the middle.

He snapped his fingers and thousands of purple, crimson tentacles launched themselves at the gang faster than the speed of light. They should have died instantly, but Shaggy's hair had a light silver glow to it.

Halfway before they reached the group all the tentacles attacking them turned into a fog of blood mist.

"Zoinks, are you guys still doubting my power now guys? Head back to the mystery machine, wait for me guys. This won't take any longer than a minute." I declared looking at the walking corpse before my eyes.

'Madness is such an abstract concept to destroy with my powers. I can do it easily, but it's such a hassle to destroy the concept in a way that doesn't damage the minds of everyone around me. That beyonder fellow should have made my friends turn insane the moment they saw him, but I guess I still got it.' I thought to myself sighing at the next hassle I needed to fix now that I saw it.

. . .

Velma teleported everyone back to the mystery machine besides Shaggy who stayed behind.

"Will he win?" Lucas asked, wondering if Shaggy could defeat that creature.

"Lucas, you may not know this, but this isn't the only time we encountered a threat this large before. All who faced a serious Shaggy in the past no matter how strong they were all got slaughtered like a baby fighting a nuclear bomb." I just hoped he held back enough to recover the items.

. . .

"Shaggy, you are an anomaly, the true outsider who bends all rules. How about you leave me alone, and I'll make all your friends immortal, and grant you guys any wish once my ritual is complete." The entity asked nervously as Shaggy just stood there watching this all happen.

Shaggy didn't say anything, he only held up one finger showing he would attack in one minute.

'I met death himself before, how are the rumors of Shaggy being stronger than death itself true? No wonder why his group rarely ever faces any sort of real danger, they are all scared by Shaggy alone. So the only ones who attack that group are either crazy or don't know any better. Guess I'm just unlucky with him showing up here...' he thought to himself.

'None of my sequence two error pathway abilities work on Shaggy. Maybe if I switch pathways to the abyss and devour its Beyonder characteristics for sequence one, zero I might succeed. I need to kill him before he truly unleashes his power, if I do that I might have a chance to survive... The ritual isn't complete, and if it's done now I might become a mad god with no sense of self... Then this process combined with me trying to ascend the abyss pathway, I'm doomed. But, if I don't do it I'll die in a minute when he tries. Better to live as a madman than be dead with my sanity Intact.'

The runes all around the walls of the underground cavern lit up with a crimson light. The mountains of items all melted to turn into a sea of black sludge. The tentacles had already regenerated and started absorbing the orbs and black sludge on mass.

Before long it was all absorbed as the tentacles all grew needles as they stabbed into the mysterious man floating in the air. He started crying black blood all the while he started to grow from 1.5 meters to 2 meters, then 4, 8, and finally sitting at 20 meters. His demonic beastly screams filled the area with its emotions bleeding into the surrounding objects.

The tentacles all merged within him giving him 3 sets of wings made out of crimson and purple tentacles. The giant eye in the middle melted away to also merge into the eye sockets of the 20-meter titan. The wings were about 60 meters in length and 6 meters wide. His skin was light gray with black veins that moved around like worms crawling under his skin. All the hair on his body was replaced with purple tentacles in various sizes. His eyes were pure red with no hint of sanity in sight.

Some of the tentacles turned into transparent worms with twelve rings on them. Above the head of this 20 meter giant was a huge an ancient stone clock with the hands being made up of purple and crimson tentacles.

All the walls around it started to warp and come to life. The madness it generated made all the objects around it come to life to turn into monsters. Suddenly the world gained a black tint to it as Shaggy finally started to move.

He blasted a hole through the roof of the cavern as he looked at the city before. It was all one giant monster as the shadow people and buildings were all infected to become monsters.

"Zoinks, the shadow realm sure is handy, an indestructible realm that constantly regenerates serving the sole purpose of those with power to fight it out. A one-to-one copy of all of existence in another realm, good thing Gaia transferred us both to the shadow realm. Like I gave you enough time dude, it's time to die man." I said as I looked towards all the invisible eyes watching from afar starring at me,

"Ultimate move, Shaggy's gentle touch." My voice grew tougher as I pulled my arm back to launch myself toward the newborn city of monsters.

My fist gently met the earth as the entire copy of America in the shadow realm was entirely destroyed by that single soft punch. The newborn Mad God was absolutely obliterated by that one attack. The punch shattered the copied shadow earth as a continent sized hole going all the way through appeared on that planet.

Many eyes could be seen watching Shaggy, but they all faded away quickly trying to not catch his attention next.

The moment Shaggy left a mini-portal opened up and the Beyonder characteristics left behind by the mad God were collected by an unknown party. A translucent worm with twelve rings followed the Beyonder characteristics through the portal that opened up.

. . .

An unknown figure could be seen watching this all happen on a TV screen as he watched a replay of Shaggy's slaughter in wonder.

'The true anomaly with unknown limits that instantly kills all who face him. Shaggy is without doubt a higher existence playing as a human. No human could be that strong, all who reach that level automatically evolve to become better than before.' I said in glee looking at my rewards in wonder.

'He is the only dragon slayer the black dragon of the apocalypse refused to acknowledge exists for its safety. He goes by many names to all who know of him, but all tend to avoid him as it's never worth it.'

'That Mad God was previously a Sequence Two on the error pathway, before hastily devouring the Beyonder characteristics for sequence one, and zero for the abyss pathway using the power of his ritual to fuel it. So now I have the ingredients for sequence zero, one for the abyss pathway, and nine to two for the error pathway. In theory, after I collect the necessary ingredients for either pathway my plans will come one step closer.'

Out of nowhere a translucent worm quickly hopped inside the man's body while he was distracted. The unknown man's body started shaking crazily as his mind was ripping at the seams.

'Get out. Leave me alone you parasite. I AM A GOD. GET OUT. Get out of my hea— Interesting...' the unknown man thought as he pulled out a crystalline monocle to put it over his left eye.

"May the fun begin anew. I wonder when the Miracle Magician will awaken his true self in this brand-new world. It's all so very interesting..."
