Chapter 7: Chapter 7: Daily Life 2 x Dirty Hollow

2 hours later . . .

"Lucas, it's already 7 pm. Have you completed your homework yet?" Emma said while looking at her son with judgemental eyes.

"Mom, I thought we agreed I would be homeschooled since last week?" Lucas asked while trying to worm his way out of finishing his normal school homework.

"No boy of mine is going to be a knowledgeless bum. Get to work Lucas or else I won't tell you any more cool magical stories of me, and your father in our old school hunting days before you were born.

"Mom aren't you and Dad in your 40s or something, Dad said you guys had me when you were in your 30s. "Lucas asked, not realizing his mistake.

Emma's eyes glowed as her rage felt like a volcano was in front of Lucas and the heat scared him a bit.

"Lucas, how old do I look again?" Emma asked while Lucas started hiding behind a bookshelf inside his mom's library downstairs.

"Mom you look to be in your 20s like Dad, whenever you came to school to pick me up back in the day they always asked me if you were my older sister. " Lucas hastily replied as his mom seemed to cool down.

"So my baby boy does have a heart. Lucas, if I look in my 20s just say I'm 21, because I know with my magical talents I'll be 21 forever." Emma replied. Her smile was scary, but she had forgotten about Lucas not doing his normal homework with his master class distraction skills he learned from the best.

10 minutes later . . .

"Lucas, you need a strong foundation to build a great empire upon it. A strong tree needs deep, and strong roots to last. It needs the ability to absorb nutrients from the outside. Do you understand, or is this too hard for my genius little boy with a big head? Do you need a dumb-downed example?" Emma teased her baby boy as his ego had grown since that day he discovered he was super talented in magic with his awakening happening.

"No Mom, I understand you completely. You basically told me to learn as much as I can here to have enough knowledge to support my future endeavors, or some similar I think." Lucas replied.

'It could use some work in his explanation and comprehension. But it's good enough for a beginner.' Emma thought as she nodded while giving Lucas a thumbs up.

As Lucas was studying his mom took out an old blue leather book. Inside the book was the magical knowledge his mom told him about, but today she was just talking about classifications.

Lucas, you should know our power system has three classifications. First are the naturals, the learners, and the hol– borrowers. Me, you, and almost everyone on our side of the family are naturals in magical talent.

We have our own innate source of power. With talents far surpassing normal mages with our mere existence. We have the strength to create our own spells into existence without any outside energy source. Others need help to hold the arcane truth with foreign powers.

Take pride in yourself, sweetie, we are a superior race compared to most mages. Take pride in your gifts of mana, and innate connection with the Arcane Truth via mana.

Learners are just people who learned the arcane arts, and with years to decades of practice, they managed to make a spell come into reality. Most learners rely upon the world or outside sources to fuel their spells. While Learners are generally weaker than any class of natural magic users, they are still a respectable bunch who also pursue the Arcane Truth.

Borrowers are con artists Lucas remembers this. They're as you would say it, talentless hacks. Most of those nobodies never learn any magic themselves. Most made deals with demons/other mythical races to obtain powers. The spells and power of a borrower are all temporary. They don't even understand the principles behind the power.

Those fakers often sell their souls for mediocre levels of power. The borrowers deserve what they get coming to them since all willingly made contacts with entities to borrow their power. Lucas, power always has a price, make sure to educate yourself on the price before accepting.

"Mom, why do you seem to hate borrowers so much?" Lucas asked while ignorant of the history of hate between all who use magic and the borrowers.

"Lucas, have you heard of the Salem witch trials? How many magic users were all burned at the stake throughout history? Remember how they accused all who used magic to be minions of the devil? It was them, it was all fucking them!" Emma raised her voice as the venom in her voice was obvious to anyone who heard it.

"So are borrowers the reason magic has its sigma? Wait, you said it's all them, so are most evil magic users a type of borrower?" Lucas asked in a serious tone as he looked at his mom.

"Yes Lucas, and before you ask if I hate them, I do Lucas. And don't let anyone tell you we as the magic community accept those hollow magic users anytime soon! Lucas, to love magic you must learn to hate borrowers for what they did to humanity in forever separating the magical from those without it!" Emma's tone was filled with sadness, and lots and lots of anger & hate.

"Lucas, don't look at me that way. You need to understand son that those hollows all deserve to die by King Solomon's word, all who pride themselves in magic would agree!"

"Those dirty hollows don't deserve to enjoy the blessings of mana and feel the power that comes from the Arcane Truth. Lucas, we don't hate those dirty hollow bugs, because of something as shallow as skin color or race, NO. A proud noble magician has to be above such archaic means. True followers of the Arcane Truth don't hate because of how they were born, but because of how they act."

"WE HATE THEM ALL FOR WHAT THEY REPRESENT!!! Lucas, even talented wizards who are blessed by the mana can also become a disgusting hollow when they seek shortcuts to power!"

"No matter the country, culture, or whatever we call ourselves be it the magic users, magus, magicians, mages, wizards, witches, and more. Like I told you son, those who walk the path of a true user of magic, and follow the Arcane Truths hate those dirty hollow bastards." Emma's voice kept getting louder and louder as she went into a frenzy.

Emma's inner hate towards those dirty hollows had been touched, it wasn't going down anytime soon. Emma kept cursing those who were hollow, she even said she would hang them if she ever saw them.

This rant interrupted Lucas's learning experience as it kept going for 30 minutes straight. Emma was so zealous in her hate for the dirty hollows, that one might mistake her for a zealous believer of an evil cult.

'My memory has been improving since the awakening. I could remember most things said, or told around me. I thought it was a joke three years ago. But, I could've sworn Mom & Dad said they were still living it good by selling a goblin tribe at the market that year.'

Lucas looked around the room in horror. He remembered the library didn't have as many books, compared to just three years prior before she and Dad said that. Lucas's eyes glowed as they looked around to see all the books less than three years old in the library were magical with hidden titles.

Lucas didn't know what to think or do, but his unconscious mind suppressed those memories.

'Damn, mom is racist towards hollows, I mean borrowers. Wait, are they a separate race or a subgroup of magic users? Mom said they aren't true magic users but hollows. Hmm, you know all her talks got me thinking about borrowers, how one might break the contracts that bind them.' Lucas thought as he asked his mom first to see if his hypothesis was possible.

'Hopefully, she opens her mind a little to think of the benefits.' Lucas's mind started racing, he feared his mom would scold him for thinking about these things.

"Mom, is it possible to make a deal with a weaker entity to gain more power? Then use your upgraded power to devour them, and make its power your own. With the death of that entity wouldn't the contract be destroyed with their death? If I'm right, any price you have to pay doesn't matter, since the contract is gone right?" Lucas asked, trying to mix the topics he read about into his arcane studies.

"Don't be silly, that's impossible...." Emma paused for a minute soon enough she retracted her previous answer.

"Lucas, what you just described is an advanced technique. Using, creating, and discovering loopholes in the system, while using it to your advantage are common abilities at the peak of power."

"Those who go beyond have the power to bend, break, and rewrite the rules of the system itself. Those who go beyond are often called Gods as most of them are such." Emma said as her eyes sparkled at the word God.

"Yes, Lucas, if you ever find an entity that is stupid enough not to include some kind of fallback or protection in the contract. What you just described is a very possible reality. It's probably why demons and other deal-making races are all magical lawyers in supernatural laws." Emma replied in a shocked tone as her son might as well be a true genius in her eyes.

Emma and her son kept talking about some possibilities Lucas thought of, Emma would either deny his outlandish questions, or she also got surprised at his advanced ideas. Lucas had some even more outlandish ideas, but they were held back since his mom was clearly a bit closed-minded toward borrower-type ideas.

For the entire night till 2 am Lucas worked with his mom about the ins and outs of magical locations around the world with local dangers, typical common sense. She also drilled into him some general rules of magic with some stories of her past while teaching him to keep him engaged in learning.

Before long Lucas went to sleep by 3 am only to wake up by 11 am for breakfast. Then Lucas would eat, shower, and get ready for his dad's training at 1 pm.

After a few hours of training outside he would sometimes spar with his Dad or some magical golems his mom made. His training would last till 4 to 5 pm, and by 6 pm he would have already eaten dinner and had his shower by then. From 6 pm to 7 pm, he would always be in the library with his mom studying magic and more. And this entire cycle would repeat every day.

Sometimes the schedule would change where he was training all day, studying all day with his mom. Other times they would team up in a combined effort to train him. Sometimes that showed by pulling out the golems and having his father lead them as a leader with his mom as support. Those special joint ventures were always the hardest types of training.

During this time James had taught his son some beginner information about his forging techniques. Lucas was forced to use his mom's magical flames those times as a substitute during those days he was in the basement forging.

Other days he was taught more advanced spells or just the pass codes to the safety system in the house. It even went so far that he was learning about runes as a complex subject.

The constant cycle of it all continued for three months with not much changing within that time. His training consisted of exercise, forging with his father, beating out his weaknesses, learning more about magic and the hidden side of the world, and setting up a normal daily routine.
