Chapter 3: Chapter 3: Under water breathing.
"So cool! Kanuk, maybe you should become the main hunter now?" Katara asked, causing Sokka to narrow his eyes. His position as the main hunter can't be threatened.
"I don't think he has the skills! Besides, this is only fishing. He does not know how to track on land." Sokka said, his voice frustrated. Kanuk smiled as he rubbed his head.
"Katara, Sokka is right. I don't know how to track animals on land yet, but I will learn." Sokka looked at Kanuk with surprise at the first part of his sentence before narrowing his eyes at the last part.
"Yet? No offence, but I don't think you can be as good as me in tracking." Sokka said while rowing the boat further into the icy waters. Kanuk raised an eyebrow at Sokka.
But he was not annoyed with him. He knew what it felt like to be the only young man in a tribe full of old people. He wouldn't want someone to replace his position.
"Sokka! What is your problem? Don't you see Kanuk is just trying to help?" Katara was tired of Sokka's bullshit. She looked at him with annoyance and confusion.
"It's okay, Katara. Your brother is just worried that I don't have enough experience to do it yet. He did not mean anything bad." Sokka averted his eyes with a slight amount of shame. He was surprised that Kanuk stood up for him.
Katara huffed as she crossed her hand under her chest, causing them to be pushed up and graze Kanuk's arm. Kanuk smiled before looking towards the water.
"I got another one!" With a thrust, he picked out another fish from the water. It was the size of his forearm. With a notification sound in his ears, he heard his spear skill level up.
[Spear has reached max level! Would you like to choose an evolution route?]
Putting the fish into the net, Kanuk thought about it for a second. He plans to use spears in his fighting style because they are the superior weapon out of all.
Swords are worse. Any weapon is worse than a spear unless it is a long-range weapon like a bow, but Kanuk is not really a bow kind of guy, so he will go with a spear.
'I want the spear to be compatible with my water bending... Wait! Can't I create spears with basically every single element?' Kanuk's eyes suddenly lit up as an idea made it into his head.
'System, evolve the spear skill towards a homing function.' Kanuk smiled as he thought about water spears being thrown at his enemies, they dodged only to be stabbed from the back.
Kanuk almost drooled at the thought.
[Skill level not high enough for such advanced function. Spear skill needs to be evolved once more for such function.]
Kanuk's excitement was rained upon, causing his left eye to twitch aggressively. With a sigh, he thought about another function of his spear skill.
'Evolve the spear skill to have a higher piercing ability.' Kanuk decided to go with something basic. He thought about going with a higher speed, but he was not sure.
[Spear skill evolving!]
[1%...]
[2%...]
[3%...]
Kanuk watched with a bored face as the percentage continued to increase by 1 single per cent every 3 seconds. With a sigh of boredom, he got back to fishing.
Kanuk prepared his spear, and every ten seconds, he caught fish after fish from the water. Sokka and Katara watched with wide eyes as he caught the fish effortlessly.
"kanuk, you are amazing! I can't wait to train you to use water bending!" Katara said with a smile. Sokka froze, and his bewildered eyes looked at Kanuk with a question. He has known Kanuk since they were babies.
He was never told that Kanuk can use water bending.
"Wait, you can use water bending? How?" Sokka asked with a bewildered face and voice. He felt angry and sad inside. Why could he not use water bending?
"I found out I can water bend yesterday night. I only told Katara this morning. Don't worry. I was gonna tell you after we finished with hunting." Kanuk replied with a smile.
He was not really gonna tell him, but he does not need to know that. The less people know about his bending, the better.
Sokka calmed down as he listened to Kanuk's explanation. He might not act like it, but he knew that Kanuk was his only real friend in this tribe, so Katara was with Kanuk. He allowed it years ago.
He is just a tsundere when it comes to his sister and Kanuk being together.
Kanuk got back to fishing, and when the timer for the evolved skill was about to finish, something shocking happened.
[Ding!]
[Killed 10 fishes. Copy underwater breathing?]
Kanuk was pleasantly surprised at this, but of course, he immediately copied it since it was so beneficial to him. He is now a waterbender. If he could fight underwater, he would be op!
As Kanuk copied the skill, the pores on his skin opened up, sucking the oxygen in the air. Kanuk felt like he could hold his breath forever, and he could breathe with just his skin.
[Spear skill evolved!]
[Spear v2 Lv.1 [0/100]
Kanuk felt the spear in his hand tremble before he stabbed the water and the fish just below the boat. Kanuk felt his eyes open wide as he felt no resistance whatsoever from the fish and the water.
If before it felt like he stabbed into a thin sheet of paper, now it felt like he stabbed through a thin plastic bag with a sharp and pointy knife. The difference was astonishing!
'This is amazing! I can't wait to unlock the second evolution!' Kanuk smirked as he picked the fish out of the water. The hunting continued like this, with fish being caught.
After Kanuk caught his two hundredth fish, the net was no longer able to hold more fish, so Sokka turned the boat around and started moving back towards the dock.
"They have been gone for about 2 hours... I hope they are alright." Gran Gran sighed as she watched the icy waters from afar. Next to her were small children playing.
"It's alright Kanna. Kanuk is a sensible child. He will make sure everything is okay." Another elder of the tribe said as he played with a child. Kanna sighed before she saw something on the water.
"it's them. Thye has come back, thank the spirits!" On the boat was Kanuk waving at them with a smile. Next to him was Katara, waving back. Sokka had a smile on his face too.
This time, they have caught enough fish that it will last their small tribe days if not weeks! Hunting in such a harsh environment as the South is not safe.
"Gran gran! We have caught enough fish for the entire tribe to eat for a week!" Kanuk shouted to Gran Gran. She has taken care of him since his parents were brutally murdered by an Ice stalker.
Ice Stalkers are huge polar bears that are larger than a car. They have thick fur that can resist spears and arrows, making them extremely powerful land animals.
"Welcome back!"

Leave a power stone!
The spear skill evolved and is now able to pierce things much stronger. How it works is, imagine you had a strength level of 5, and you needed to have a strength level of 20 to pierce something.
With the new stab function, that 20 requirement would become a 5, a 4 times difference.
