The Backbender (Avatar: The Last Airbender)

Swoosh!

Like a fish in water, Kanuk pushed himself forward with Water Bending. He got behind the Ice Stalker. With a kick, Kanuk caught its attention. The Ice Stalker turned around with an angry grunt.

The Ice Stalker swam towards him, its giant maws open to bite his head straight off. Dodging its charge at him, Kanuk gut under the Ice Stalker, and when he saw the spear, he used a water handle to pull it out.

Squelch!

Splash!

The Ice Stalker let out a roar under the water. The spear was pulled out from his chest, causing a massive amount of blood to splash out and mix with the icy water.

The Ice Stalker thrashed around in the water, the air in its lungs being knocked out. With desperation on its face, it tried to swim towards the surface.

'I don't think so!' With a smirk, Kanuk swam after the Ice Stalker, pulling it down with a water chain. The Ice Stalker looked back in fear at the water chain, trying to break it.

Before it could succeed, however, Kanuk got into a throwing position, his spear pointed towards the head of the Ice Stalker. With his attention on the water Chain, the Ice Stalker did not see Kanuk.

Swoosh!

The spear cut through the water at a high speed, and the tip of the spear found its way inside the head of the Ice Stalker, killing it on the spot and causing a Massive gain in Exp.

Kanuk smirked as he heard the sound of the system notification. Swimming towards the bear, Kanuk opened his copy function and scanned the Ice Stalker's physical attributes.

'System, copy every single physical attribute the Ice Stalker has.' While Kanuk was thinking about the attributes, he noticed the ice growing on his hands and body.

Feeling his body starts to go into shock, Kanuk pushed himself up towards the surface, but he did not notice that a water animal was swimming towards him at high speed.

Swoosh!

"Arghh!" Bubbles spawned out from Kanuk's mouth as he let out a pained groan. Blood leaked into the water as a sharp tail swiped at his head, barely able to move his head.

Kanuk opened his right eye and looked at the animal that attacked him. It was an aggressive Leopard Seal. His tail almost decapitated Kanuk in a single strike.

Swoosh!

Not caring about anything, Kanuk used Water Bending to swim to the top. The Leopard Seal followed after him, its speed reaching him almost instantly.

"Ahhh!" Jumping out of the water, Kanuk instantly jumped forward just as the Leopard Seal poked its mouth full of sharp teeth. Laying on his back, Kanuk shivered from the cold in the air.

"System. Quickly apply the level 5 Resilience copied from the Ice Stalker! Kanuk shouted as his body started going into shock from the cold. His body was still covered in ice.

[Yes.]

Kanuk shivered as he felt his body change. Warm energy entered his body, changing it fundamentally to have the same resilient body as the Ice Stalker that Kanuk just killed.

"Kanuk! Oh my god! What happened to you?!" From the distance, Katara shouted as she ran towards him from the distance. Her eyes opened wide in shock at seeing his sorry state.

"Katara... Good to see you." Kanuk sat up with difficulty as the snow under him was painted red. The gash on his arm and the cut on his left eye was bleeding heavily.

"What happened to you?! We need to get you back to the tribe!" Kanuk struggled to stand up as Katara hung his arm around her shoulder. The two of them got to the tribe as fast as they could.

When they reached the tribe, Kanuk got immediate medical care from Gran Gran and anyone else who knew medicine. They disinfected his wounds and bandaged him up. Next, they placed Kanuk next to a warm fire.

Kanuk passed out while getting bandaged due to his Chi being drained in the fight and also the shock from the cold water and ice. 

"This child... Those wounds are most likely from that beast..." Gran Gran sighed as she turned to look at Katara, who was crying while next to Kanuk.

She knew well what those wounds were from. Many hunters and fishermen in the tribe died in the decades. Some who survived came back with scars, just like Kanuk.

"Katara, my dear. You should go rest now. Kanuk is going to be okay." Katara wiped her eyes before standing up and walking out from Gran Gran's tent.

Time passed with Gran Gran taking care of Kanuk. He was healing quickly due to copying and applying the level 5 resilience from the Ice Stalker at the last second.

He might have gone into shock without the attribute. The night passed with Gran Gran watching over him. Once the morning came, Katara arrived and stayed there.

"Ugh..." Kanuk groaned as he felt his whole body hurt from the sore muscles. His eyes opened gently, and he noticed Katara's head on his chest.

"Katara..." Kanuk looked at her with surprise before he placed his hand on her head with a gentle smile. He gently smoothed her hair out since it was a little bit messy.

"She was looking at you for 5 hours without moving. Eventually, she fell asleep due to being tired." Kanuk felt his scalp tingle as from the shadows came out Gran Gran. He sighed in relief, noticing that it was just Gran Gran.

"Gran Gran, you scared me." Gran Gran smiled before she placed a cup of hot water on his lips. Kanuk swallowed the water, feeling his dried and cold lips warm up.

"Kanuk, what happened to you?" Gran Gran asked as she put the empty cup down. Kanuk sighed as he remembered the fight. He tried to open his eyes wide, but he suddenly groaned in pain.

"Careful child. Your pupil was sliced straight through. I am afraid you have lost one of your eyes." Kanuk opened his eye wide in shock at what he had just heard from Gran Gran.

Did he lose an eye? But he had a system. How could he lose an eye? That did not make sense!

"I know it is not good, but at least you came out with only one of your eyes missing. I once saw a hunter lose all his legs and arms due to that monster." Kanna said as she remembered back to her younger days when hunters and fishermen still existed in the tribe.

Silence filled the tent as Kanuk tried to accept that he lost one of his eye. He still had the eye, but it was sliced through by the sharp tail of the Leopard Seal.

'It must have been attracted by the smell of blood.' Kanuk thought as he remembered how much blood got mixed into the water during his fight with the Ice Stalker.

'System. Apply all the attributes copied from the Ice Stalker.' Kanuk gritted his teeth before he ordered the system to accept the physical attributes he copied.

Kanuk was quite surprised, but he did not hesitate to accept it since it was already obvious that fused skills were more powerful compared to the several attributes he copied.

"Ugh!" Gran Gran looked at Kanuk with worry as he started groaning in pain. The pained sound from Kanuk started waking Katara up from her sleep.
