The Billionaire's Dilemma

Chapter 18: A Deal on the Table

Emily sat in Julian's office, the weight of the envelope heavy in her hands. The documents inside were more than just financial records they were evidence that could unravel the empire Julian had built.

"You're handing me everything I need to expose you," she said, her voice steady despite the storm brewing inside her. "Why?"

Julian leaned back in his chair, his piercing gaze fixed on her. "Because I know you won't stop until you get the truth. And I'd rather control how you find it."

His words were calculated, but there was something else beneath the surface something that almost felt like vulnerability.

Emily placed the envelope back on his desk. "So, what's the catch?"

"I want you to hold off on publishing anything at least until you hear my side of the story," he said. "There's more at play here than you realize, and if you go public now, you'll only be telling half the truth."

She narrowed her eyes. "And if I refuse?"

"Then you'll be playing right into Marcus's hands," Julian said coldly. "He's not offering you help he's using you to tear me down. And once he's finished with me, he won't hesitate to bury you too."

Emily hesitated. She didn't trust Julian but she trusted Marcus even less. And there was a part of her that couldn't ignore the curiosity burning inside her.

"Why should I believe you?" she asked.

Julian stood, moving to the floor-to-ceiling windows that overlooked the city. "Because I'm offering you access real access. No limits, no restrictions. You want the truth? Let me show you."

It was an offer no journalist could ignore. And Julian knew it.

After a long pause, Emily spoke. "Fine. But if I find out you're lying"

"You won't," he interrupted, turning to face her. "Because I have nothing left to hide."

The air between them grew heavy with tension. For the first time, the lines between enemy and ally blurred.

And as much as she hated to admit it, Emily knew she was stepping deeper into Julian Blackwood's world whether she wanted to or not.
