The Billionaire's Dilemma

Chapter 19: An Unlikely Agreement

The silence in Julian's office was thick, the weight of his offer lingering between them. Emily's fingers tapped lightly against her notebook as she processed his words. He was giving her unprecedented access something no other journalist had ever been granted. But why?

"You're asking me to trust you," she said, breaking the silence. "But trust goes both ways, Julian."

A faint smile touched his lips as he returned to his chair. "I'm aware. That's why I'm offering transparency. You'll see everything no filters."

Emily leaned forward, her voice steady. "If I agree to this, I follow the truth wherever it leads. Even if it destroys you."

His expression darkened for a moment, but he nodded. "I wouldn't expect anything less."

She hesitated. Accepting his deal meant walking a tightrope between truth and manipulation. But it also meant gaining access to secrets Marcus would never share.

"Alright," she said at last. "I'm in. But I set the terms. No interference. And if I find evidence you're covering something up I publish."

Julian's eyes locked onto hers, and for a moment, the ruthlessness in his gaze softened. "Deal."

He extended his hand across the desk. After a brief hesitation, she shook it sealing an agreement that could either make her career or destroy everything.

As she stood to leave, Julian's voice stopped her.

"Emily," he said, his tone quieter. "Be careful around Marcus. He's more dangerous than you realize."

"I can handle myself," she replied, though a sliver of doubt crept in.

His mouth curved into a knowing smile. "I don't doubt that. But in this world, trust is the rarest currency. Don't spend it too easily."

Emily left the office with the envelope in her bag and more questions than answers. She had agreed to his terms but she couldn't shake the feeling that Julian Blackwood was still hiding something.

And she intended to find out exactly what it was.
